It’s Not Bush Violating Civil Rights. Back To Duke

Ya know, I have asked liberals many, many times, online and in person, what Rights they have lost due to President Bush and/or the GOP Congress. So far, it is just er, um, well, you see, what might happen. Even the ACLU cannot say with honesty that any Americans have lost Rights do to any policy of Bush or the GOP.

But, when real civil rights violations occur, do you think the Left or the ACLU will step up? Doubtful. And Durham DA Mike Nifong (Democrat) has been doing all he can to violate the Rights of the Duke Lacrosse players, and now he is even going further:

Attorneys for Duke University men's lacrosse players who have been cleared in a rape investigation that led to charges against three teammates are to appear in court Monday to fight prosecution subpoenas that seek access to school records.

The hearing comes the same day that attorneys for charged players Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and David Evans are scheduled to appear for the latest pretrial hearing in the case.

Attorneys for the uncharged players want to prevent District Attorney Mike Nifong from gaining access to Duke records of the home addresses of uncharged team members and records of their use of student identity cards. The lawyers argue the information is protected by federal privacy laws.

Bob Ekstrand, who represents 33 of the team's 46 players, said Nifong has provided no reason why he needs the information. After filing charges against Evans in May, Nifong issued a statement saying no other team member was implicated in the alleged rape of an exotic dancer at a team party in March.

As a concerned citizen, I would like to know why Nifong is attempting to gather private records from a privately owned school. Is there a reason? Is this a fishing expedition? Is this a witch hunt? Or just a case of a power mad DA, who doesn't mind violating the Constitution.

By my reckoning, Nifong has already violated the Fourth multiple times (as well as this article,) the Sixth (right to a speedy trial,) and the Eight (Nifongs actions can be construed as cruel and unusual punishment.)

Why not write the North Carolina chapter of the ACLU, see if they will take action and stand up for the violation of real civil rights?

It’s simple, Nifong is an idiot that ruined the lives of several young men to help his political career and now realizes if he loses this case, not only his career will be over but so will his life in N.C. He’ll be so hated he’ll have to move to Iran to get a pat on the back that even a mangy dog can get.

Nah, he just won election — he’s safe, no matter what happens. He is, however, looking for something to ensure his NEXT election. If he can find ANYTHING that he can get these damn rich white kids on, he’s going to be a hero to the racist blacks.

I wrote the ACLU, but, of course, no reply. I guess they don’t mind violating civil rights in this case.

They weren’t interested in representing me against the red-light cameras, either.
