And guess who he is going to blame if the Democrats force an early withdrawl from Iraq for any ensuing bloodbath?
If pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq results in "a bloodbath," the guilt will rest with the Iraqi people and not with the U.S. Congress, according to Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), a leading proponent of withdrawing troops.
"Many have threatened that there will be chaos, a bloodbath, when the United States redeploys from Iraq, and this in fact may be the case," Murtha said in a speech at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Monday. "If they continue to choose to spill blood, it will not be on the conscience of the United States."
Sorry, Murtha, it would. It would be the fault of the Democrats, and it would be on our whole conscience, Democrats for forcing it, Republicans for allowing them to force it. This is yet another case where the Democrats refuse to take any blame, in fact blaming others, for what they do.
Murtha said ethnic violence in Iraq would be "a continuation of decades of its own conflicts, which they and they alone can solve."
I guess he has forgotten that any violence in Iraq over the past few decades was caused by the government of Saddam Husein, not any internal conflicts. It is not conflict when members of the ruling party rape, torture, mutilate, and murder its own citizens. It is not conflict when the government drops WMD on its own citizens. Cause no one is able to fight back.
"The fact that Rep. Murtha acknowledged that leaving Iraq in chaos would lead to genocide but then says it wouldn’t be our fault is striking," Kevin Smith, a spokesman for Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), told Cybercast News Service.
"As Ambassador [Ryan] Crocker noted, the consequences of leaving before completing our mission is ominous," Smith said. "Not just for Iraq and the Middle East but also for our ability to confront and defeat the radical Islamist threat around the world."
Smith said "the safety and security of the United States is at stake, but Democrats don’t seem to fundamentally understand that fact."
I disagree, Mr. Smith. Democrats do understand. They just do not care. Their advanced case of BDS has pushed them there. But they will not take responsibility for that, either.
They do not care that they are emboldening the jihadis. They do not care that our efforts have helped loosen the restrictions on freedom in so much of the Muslim/Arab Middle East, and their efforts have harmed those efforts. They do not care that what they are doing is helping Iran and Syria. They do not care that our security is being harmed. It would be nice if we could solve the ills of the Muslim world with some kind words, a rousing chorus of that Coke song, and a handshake. But, that is fantasy land, and, regardless of who started it, we have to finish it.
Iraq is the central front in the war on terror. Whether that was one of the intentions of going in to Iraq, that is where we are now. Rather then having all the little jihadis streaming into Iraq, we would have them streaming into Afghanistan, one of the most difficult places to fight on Earth. A place where they have had decades to create hiding points, weapons caches, and ambush points. Oh, and since so many would be streaming through Iran, I’m sure they would be equiped with nice weapons via Iran.
Instead, they are coming to Iraq, a battlefield of our choosing. One with shorter supply lines and less mountains. Democrats would be more then happy to destroy everything we have accomplished and to hell with the bloodbath. They would probably blame it on Bush, anyhow.
While we are on the subject of Old Cut and Redeploy, Hot Air TV has him being shredded by the libs favorite guy to be bigoted over, Jeff Gannon.
