Cass at Villainous Company has the lowdown on much of the proposed FEC regulation, draft version, on internet based political activity. Go here.
She was right.

From the Fox News front page, under "Only on Fox News"
BAGHDAD, Iraq — Rabab Adood never had much experience with guns before she entered the Baghdad Police Academy. But now she’s at the top of her class … and she’s on a mission.
Adoos and her sister, Intsar, are two of 39 women who are now
enrolled out of the academy, along with about 2,500 men. Women weren’t
allowed to be police officers under former dictator Saddam Hussein but very few say they would have wanted to."The
word ‘law’ didn’t exist prior to the war," said Intsar Adood. "The
police officers were to follow the word of Saddam, which is not the
law."
Sure, there are a few Iraqi men who object to this, and the article goes on to say that they will perform office jobs and/or (wo)man security checkpoints initially. That will change with time.
From Nelson Demile’s The Lion’s Game, Chapter 45 (page 489 from hardcopy) and taken slightly out of context:
Khalil recalled replying to Boris, "The next century belongs to Islam."
Boris laughed and said, "You’ve been saying that for a thousand years. I’ll tell you what is going to defeat you-your women. They are not going to put up with your nonsense much longer. The slaves will turn on their masters. I saw it happen in my country (Soviet Union). One day your women will become tired of wearing veils, tired of being beaten, tired of being killed for fucking a man, tired of sitting home wasting their lives. When that day comes, people like you and your fucking mullahs had better be ready to negotiate."
Quicky post. For those who rely on manually pinging Blogrolling, like I do, good luck! They are having issues. Try Ping-O-Matic, it is working, and passes the info through to blogrolling.

Most who pop in here know I haven’t really taken a stance on the Terri Schiavo disgrace. Partly that is due to not being there in the beginning, and having little knowledge of the issue while trying to play catchup. Also, deeply personal issues which are just that: personal. I applaud those that have been there from the beginning, which includes a large, large number of bloggers on my blogrolls. To them I cannot say how proud I am of them for doing what they think is right, if that means anything to them. Not legally right, but morally right. They haven’t done this for political reasons. They aren’t making a political statement. They are making a moral statement. Kudos.
The thing that is distressing to me is how, over the past 2 weeks, the issue has become so political. Particularly from many on the Left, from the disgusting, revolting comments on the DU, to the "rationalizations" from Democratic pundits. Amazing. It’s funny, though not ha ha funny, how, on an issue that should be coming from the heart, they all of a sudden try to let it come from the head. For years now most issues from the Left have been rationalized from the heart when they should be from the head, now a total 180.
You may be asking yourself "what’s the point?" and "what brought this on?" Well, this is in response to the Leftazoids meme regarding the baby in Texas. It sickens me that the Left has, in their typical knee jerk reaction, saw an issue that so many on the Right were passionate about, and went out and looked for a "similar" incident to not only refute the people who were trying to save Terri’s life for moral reasons, but, to hurt Bush and GOPers for political reasons. So many on the Left are pushing this. I have read it on the DU and on Lefty blogs, and have heard it on the radio and tv. Al Frankin tried to go down that road unbidden on Joe Scarborough Wednesday night. And a caller to Bill Lemay on Raleigh’s WPTF-680 did the same. Let’s look at the transcript from Scarborough.

Finally got the settings correct for a domain mapping, to replace piratescove.typepad.com/piratescove with thepiratescove.us. SWEET!!!!!!!!
What does this mean? Nada for at least a few days. Once the domain mapping is done, people can still get here using the 2 above addresses, as well as piratescove.typepad.com
Step one is to do a merge, so, if thinks go wonky, and you see funny stuff in the header, that would explain why.
Step 2 is then mapping. Step 3 is then getting a bunch of alliances to change the domain name. NCBlogs, The Alliance, Homespun Bloggers, plus fixing Sitemeter (which should be interesting, stats wise, since I am adding another address, messing up traffic further :D). Then, if what happens that I think is going to happen, eventually getting NZ Bear to dump the old Ecosphere link and make sure that the new one has the piratescove.typepad.com/piratescove in it, instead of ending with piratesove.
Screw it. If I lose links, so be it. I’ll just work to get them back. Besides, there are alot that are piratescove.typepad.com that do not show up for me now. ANd, BTW, alot of what I just wrote was to lay it out for myself.

Welcome GM’s Corner to the American Flag League. Welcome aboard, matie!
I have also added him to me main blogroll as well. Check him out! Though he, like most, has no pirate thongs in view :)
PS: I am torn between 2 great blogs for the King of the Blogs competition, World of Tish and GM’s Corner. I have already given a trackback in support of Tish, and, for ye judges notification, I am throwing a trackback to GM’s Corner in this post.

If things start to look a little weird on my site today, it is just me playing with domain mapping and a few other things. Permalinks and/or trackbacks for "thepiratescove.us" should not be used if you see them, nor the domain name for thepiratescove.us. Maybe be fully in effect in a week or so. Thanks for popping in!
Update: not going so well. Gotta wait a few hours and try again. Sigh.

The Democracy Project has the FYI on proposed rule-making from the FEC regarding the Internet and "public communication." (Hat tip to Prof. Reynolds) Looks like Cass might be right here and here. Ornery woman ;)
One point of note:
This comment is by Brent Tantillo, also of the Democracy Project. The main wrinkle in the proposed FEC rules, to my eye, is regarding the use of corporate facilities or property (such as computers) for blogging or other Internet activities that could constitute “public communicationâ€. The proposed rule allows “stockholders and employees of the corporation…[to] make occasional, isolated, or incidental use of the facilities of a corporation for individual volunteer activities in connection with a Federal election and will be required to reimburse the corporation only to the extent that the overhead or operating costs of the corporation are increased.†So what happens if an employee engages in something more than incidental use of corporate facilities? Does this constitute a “public communication†under the proposed rules? Will the corporation be fined or subject to criminal penalties for nondisclosure of such activity? By only excluding Internet activities that occur in "public facilities", or in one’s residence, corporations may be subject to monitoring and banning any sort of blogging by employees on the premises. Considering that most blogs are read during the workday, this could be a particularly heinous limit on free speech.
I still would like there to be a rule about canvassing for contributions included in the language, specifically, those who have direct donation boxes to candidates, PAC, 527’s, and political parties to be included. This would wipe out half of the Left-o-sphere’s reason to blog :)
