Code Pink in Iran

Boy, here’s a great (snicker) idea:

Building friendships : In this time of increased political tension between the US and Iran, American travel to Iran helps establish the people-to-people ties that facilitate understanding and respect between our two countries. In this spirit CODEPINK organized a delegation of 10 women, led by Co-founder Jodie Evans. The Women have arrived in Teheran and are sending daily writings about their trip and the people they are meeting.

Daily, huh? There have been 2 entries, one for the 21st and one for the 22nd (April). Perhaps they forgot to wear their burka’s, or have been hung or stoned to death for carnal relations, or, for just being a woman in Iran. Maybe they disappeared because they were American. They certainly would have stuck out wearing pink.

By all means, CodePink, let’s give aid and comfort to one of the worlds leading backers of terrorism. A country that has used chemical weapons in the past, and is now looking to produce nuclear weapons. A country which is also looking to (take this with a grain of salt, and HT to Right Wing News), knock out the US infrastructure through the use of an Electromagnetic Pulse nuclear weapon.

So, CodePink, keep cavorting with the potential enemy. Iran’s government and Islamic leaders sure feel that the US is the Great Satan. How about buying a clue?

Tuition Bill Illegal?

Yes, I know, it is mostly Blogless Sunday. And, I had a great billboard picture I took that I was going to put up, will have to wait for tommorrow morning. This one has been bugging me, regarding the NC Bill to allow the children of illegal immigrants to not only be allowed to go to college, but to grant them in-state tuition.

Legislative researchers said that a bill that would offer in-state college tuition to some illegal immigrants could violate federal law.

But two sponsors of the measure said it’s a commonsense way to get the best economic return on people who draw on government funds just by living here — and similar programs are unchallenged in at least eight other states.

So damn the consequences, forget that it is against Federal law, it doesn’t matter to the NC Legislative critters. It kills me the way these people think.

Gerry Cohen, director of bill drafting at the North Carolina legislature, told The News & Observer in a story published Saturday that the measure contradicts a 1996 federal immigration reform law meant to discourage illegal immigration.

That law says illegal immigrants "shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a state … for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident."

See, illegal. Period.

Co-sponsor Rep. Jeff Barnhart, R-Cabarrus, said he believes the bill has practical merit. Because many of the 300,000 illegal immigrants in North Carolina are poor, they create an expense for state and local governments that pick up the tab for services they use. Making an education affordable would give the younger people a chance to make a greater contribution to the state’s economy.

"We’ve got a population we’ve got to deal with," Barnhart said. "Do we make them productive or let them keep showing up at the emergency room for the $550 flu?"

Or, we could just send them back. What part of illegal is not understood? Do these people ever look at a friggin’ dictionary?

LMA not writing

Image hosting by Photobucket Little Miss Attila says she is not writing anything worth reading till someone links her. Can do. John Hawkins at Right Wing News has linked her (and was nice enough to link me, too, including with my new domain name!).

I have the perfect thing for her to write about: the Book Meme, since she hasn’t done it yet. A shiny piece of gold donkey pirate thong for her if she does it. :D

Isn’t she a beauty?

Image hosting by Photobucket  Nothing intense this week for the Tavern. Just a picture of this little darling, which has actually been nesting outside of the mall for a few weeks. Surprisingly, no one has been attacked by either her or the gander yet, I supposed there are a few bright folks in the world who realize they should stay away. I took this and a few others with  my digital camera, but the other 2 were slightly too far away, and came out a bit blurry.

It’s not the proof, but the seriousness of the allegations

Looks like the ice is getting a bit thinner under Nancy Pelosi:

House Republicans yesterday called on Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to provide documentation to prove that a Washington lobbyist firm did not pay for a trip she and other Democrats took to Puerto Rico in 2001.
"We feel that such lingering questions undermine the integrity of the institution and we hope [the questions] will be cleared up as soon as possible," wrote Republican Reps. Patrick T. McHenry of North Carolina and Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia.

Gee, a Democrat doing something wrong? Of course, this has to be a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, right? No reason for her to respond to the allegations, right?

On travel disclosure forms filed with the House clerk, Mrs. Pelosi and others on the trip listed a group called Todo Puerto Rico con Vieques as its sponsor.
After the discrepancy was made public, Mrs. Jones amended her travel disclosure form to match those of Mrs. Pelosi and other travelers. A spokeswoman in Mrs. Jones’ office blamed the conflicting information on "human error" but declined to provide proof that the trip was paid for by Todo Puerto Rico con Vieques, rather than D.C. lobbyist Smith, Dawson & Andrews.
Mrs. Pelosi also refused to provide any such documentation, and testily dismissed questions yesterday about the matter.
"There’s no discrepancy in the records on my trip," the California Democrat said. "So that’s all I can answer for."

So, I guess she feels that she doesn’t need to answer anything. Unlike Tom Delay

Mrs. Pelosi has called for a full investigation into that matter (over Delay), which is an inconsistency, say Mr. McHenry and Mr. Westmoreland.
"If you are serious that the mere allegation that a lobbyist paid for member travel warrants a full ethics investigation, it would seem that a member actually disclosing it as fact would more than merit it," the Republicans wrote.

So what is good for the gander is not good for the goose. See, it doesn’t matter whether the charges are true or not, it is the seriousness of the allegations. This deserves a long, drawn out investigation, with lots of accusations of impropriety coming from the GOP, bloggers, the media, etc, followed by a refusal to give her her day in front of the Ethics Committee, at least for 5-6 months. Fair is fair, right?
