Trump Says He Will Sign EO Requiring ID To Vote

Well, OK then

Trump says he will require voter ID with executive order

President Donald Trump says he plans to sign an executive order aimed at requiring voter ID in elections across the country.

Trump made the statement on social media late Saturday night, saying he is also seeking other reforms to how U.S. elections take place.

“Voter I.D. Must Be Part of Every Single Vote. NO EXCEPTIONS! I Will Be Doing An Executive Order To That End!!! Also, No Mail-In Voting, Except For Those That Are Very Ill, And The Far Away Military. USE PAPER BALLOTS ONLY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump previously attempted to impose voter ID via an executive order earlier this year in a wider election integrity action.

In April, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia struck down the portions of that order that related to voter identification requirements.

Kollar-Kotelly maintained that Trump did not have the authority to issue such an order, as the Constitution delegates control of election regulations to Congress and states.

I doubt this will survive a legal challenge. It would be great if it did, but, is there anything within federal statute as passed by Congress which allows requiring ID to vote in federal elections and restricting the use of mail-in ballots? I doubt it. It would have to be by pulling unrelated language from other unrelated bills, because it is up to the states to determine both. Some states are pretty strict on voter ID, some are not. Some have the requirement for ID but do not enforce. And there is little chance the federal Congress will be able to pass anything within their Constitutional authority on either.

Nevertheless, requiring voters to provide proof of citizenship remains widely popular among Americans, according to a poll from Gallup taken just before the 2024 elections.

The poll found that 84% of U.S. adults were in favor of requiring voters to show identification and 83% supported requiring proof of citizenship when registering for the first time.

When broken down by party, 67% of Democrats, 84% of Independents and 98% of Republicans were in favor of mandating voter ID. The party breakdown over proof of citizenship was similar, with 66% of Democrats, 84% of Independents and 96% of Republicans supporting the idea.

Legislation could pass the House, but, it’s highly doubtful that anything could make it through the Senate. Dems would use the filibuster which they say they hate when it is used against them.

    More theater from Mr trump…

    Even Mr Teach agrees.

But Mr trump and his sheep imagines him The King. The executive branch does not create law, but enforces law. Congress creates law. The Courts judge the Constitutionality of laws. This has worked for nearly 250 years, but King Donald wants to, needs to, rig the systems.

Democrats cannot win without cheating. It is reasonable to question when the last time they legitimately won anywhere. So naturally they will defend all their cheating tools as if their political futures depend on it.

An Executive Order only has effect on the executive branch of the government. I have noticed that the lying democratic party media and their amplifiers present Trump’s EOs as if they are dictatorial edicts that everyone needs to follow, but when you read the actual order, it is clear it only effects the federal government. Since this is just an idea of a future EO, and not a real EO, there is nothing to read. It is just trolling getting the Democrats to come out in the light and defend cheating.

Mr trump believes his Executive Orders are law. Why would any President of the United States of America invest time and taxpayer monies in trolling citizens? No, Mr trump belives he is making American law. His actual trolling is to distract Americans from the trump repeaed failures – tariffs, immigrants, police state, Russia, Gaza, pedophilia, health, dementia etc.

And how would an ID requirement be “cheating”? This should be good….

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Republicans have always wanted to limit legal voters by making it more and more difficult to vote. ID requirements do that. They don’t want poor people to vote. They don’t want urban people to vote. They don’t want Blacks, women or Hispanics to vote. They don’t want college graduates or even students to vote.

If every legal voter voted for president, no MAGAt would ever win.

No, it’s not good when a political party attempts to subvert democracy.

So Rimjob how would requiring a legal ID to vote be “cheating”?

            You never answered.

          • Jl says:

The ID requirement would cover all potential voters, so it’s not “unfair”, and as far as I’ve seen, there’s never been statistical proof that it limits voting. Look at it this way-one has 2 years between off-year elections to obtain one, and 4 years between each presidential election to obtain one. Somehow I think they could manage…..

How does requiring ID papers help the Repugs?

Disproportionate impact on marginalized groups: Research indicates that certain demographics are significantly less likely to possess the specific types of ID required by some states. As of 2023, data showed that 25% of voting-age African Americans and 16% of Latino voters lacked government-issued photo ID, compared to just 5% of white Americans.

Costs of acquiring ID: While some states offer free IDs, voters often face other costs. These include paying for prerequisite documents like birth certificates, and covering transportation expenses to travel to government offices, which can be far away, especially in rural areas. These financial barriers disproportionately affect low-income and elderly individuals on fixed incomes.

Difficulty obtaining documents: Many citizens find it difficult to acquire the necessary documents to get a government-issued photo ID. This is especially true for older adults who may not have a birth certificate or whose name has changed over time due to marriage or divorce. In some instances, it may take multiple trips and significant time to navigate the required bureaucracy.

Student voters: For college students, a student ID—often their primary form of identification—is frequently not accepted as a valid form of voter ID, making it difficult for them to vote in person.

This creates an unneeded burden for voters that usually vote for Democrats, which is the GOP objective. Mr trump lacks the authority to require a national ID for state voting.

In-person illegal voting is a very rare event and is usually Republican voters.

I propose that to insure safe voting that every state have 1 polling place per 10,000 registered voters, with the polling sites placed in cities of 250,000 or more. Only in person voting with paper ballots!! The polls would be open 24 hr. Rural people can drive, bus or take a train to the cities to vote. For example, Missouri has two cities that qualify, conveniently on either side of the state. 4 million voters/ 10,000 per poll = 400 polling places: 200 in St Louis and 200 in Kansas City, placed in schools/churches. These can be easily monitored and secured.

            How so?
You still haven’t answered the question.
