How AAPI adults are being affected by Trump’s immigration crackdown, according to a new poll
Many Asian American and Pacific Islander adults have experienced or witnessed some degree of upheaval because of the Trump administration’s heightened immigration policies, a new AP-NORC/AAPI Data poll finds, while most say the U.S. is no longer the land of opportunity for immigrants.
A new poll released Monday from AAPI Data and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows about half of AAPI adults say they — or someone they know — have been detained or deported within the last year, started carrying proof of immigration status or U.S. citizenship, upended travel plans or significantly changed their routines because of immigration status.
The findings come after more than a year of immigration crackdowns. The poll indicates that the Trump administration’s aggressive approach, which has resulted in multiple clashes between protesters and enforcement officers and led to the shooting deaths of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis earlier this year, may be changing the way some people in immigrant-heavy communities see the U.S. itself.
AAPI adults are one of the country’s fastest-growing demographic, and most AAPI adults in the U.S. were born outside the country. The survey found a majority of AAPI adults — about 6 in 10 — believe the U.S. used to be a great country for immigrants but is not anymore. Only about 3 in 10 AAPI adults say America is a great place for immigrants, while a few, 5%, say it was never a great place for immigrants.
If they’re here legally these generic people have nothing to worry about. If they aren’t, well, time to leave. And, really, if the legal ones are hanging with illegals, why? Come on, this is all just fear mongering by people who are upset that the laws of the United States are being enforced, and it makes it harder for Democrat areas to get these “immigrants” to vote.
Trump admin puts alleged ‘birth tourism’ scheme on notice as expert delivers warning to hospitals
The Trump administration is using visa enforcement to target “birth tourism,” an alleged scheme utilized by foreign nationals to obtain visitor visas for the primary purpose of giving birth in the U.S. and securing American citizenship for their children.
The Trump administration recently announced that it disrupted “a sophisticated birth tourism network” in West Africa involving more than 100 foreign nationals utilizing false documents and, what the State Department described as “fixers,” to get themselves visas to go to the United States to give birth so their children would be born on U.S. soil and treated as American citizens.
But that was just one of the networks the State Department indicated it had uncovered. The agency’s announcement said U.S. officials identified more than 400 suspected birth tourism cases emanating from Europe since 2024, and tied to at least six companies that helped coach applicants on what to say during their visa interview, arranged housing and set-up delivery plans.
“We shut it down, revoked these foreign nationals’ visas, and are coordinating with local authorities to systematically identify and cut off any similar operations,” the State Department said in its announcement. “A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right. The State Department is taking action around the world to stop this abuse, dismantle birth tourism networks, and hold accountable those who try to scam our system.”

The United States has been pushing the RealID requirement since 2005, and to get your RealID you have to present a photo ID, normally an older driver’s license, plus your Social Security card, as proof you are a citizen; your passport will work as well, as you had to prove your citizenship to obtain that. The RealID law was passed due to terrorism, and it has been pushed by both Republican and Democratic administrations.
Right now, a RealID, or passport, is required to board an airplane, but you can count on it: additional requirements will be added. You have to have a current photographic ID to open a bank account, something required under the PATRIOT Act; watch that be made into a RealID requirement.
There is a real “Ve need to see your papers” requirement, almost entirely because the Obama and Biden Administrations opened the borders to millions of illegal immigrants. Had that not happened, we wouldn’t be seeing this s(tuff).
Mr Dana blames the RealID requirements on Presidents Obama and Biden allowing “open borders”!!
He earlier typed “The United States has been pushing the RealID requirement since 2005…”
The terms of Presidents Obama and Biden were 2008-2016 and 2020-2024. George W. Bush was president in 2005. He WAS busy with the Iraq Invasion.
Why was St Reagan forced to grant anmesty to some 3 million “illegals” in 1982? Did he foresee the open borders of Presidents Obama and Biden?
