Say, What Does Climate Doom Mean For White Christmases?

Wow, the doomsday cult is out a bit early for this

What Climate Change Means for White Christmases

stop global warmingIf you’ve been dreaming of a white Christmas, be warned that it might not become a reality.

Yeah, I live in North Carolina, so, it almost never happens. The last time on “record” was 2010, but, really, it started snowing in the wee hours of the 26th, because I remember leaving the parents house at 4pm on Christmas day, and it was still not snowing in Raleigh when I got home just after midnight.

Many people have memories of watching the snow fall on Christmas Day—but data shows that, across the country, a white Christmas occurs less frequently than you might think.

The National Weather Service will only deem it a white Christmas if there is an inch or more of snow cover on the ground Christmas morning—when volunteer observers report the snowfall. Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows that from 2003 through 2024, the average Christmas morning snow cover blanketed just 36% of the contiguous U.S. states. (That’s because some regions, like the Texas Gulf Coast or stretches of the West Coast, rarely see snow in December.) In fact, according to the Weather Channel, there’s few places beyond the Mountain West, northern New England, and the far northern tier states like Michigan and Minnesota, and northern New England where the odds of a white Christmas are higher than 50%. (snip)

But while many people across the country might lament the white Christmases of their youth, the truth is that many places typically don’t see snow in late December—people just think they did.

“People tend to remember that one snowy Christmas, and they forget that it was surrounded by five Christmases that weren’t,” says David Robinson, New Jersey State climatologist and Rutgers University professor whose research focuses on snow cover.

The thing is, the data really doesn’t go all that far back to determine if there has been a lessening of the chance of having a white Christmas in the areas that have a decent chance of having snow on the ground at Christmas. Most measured data put together only goes back to the early 1980s. Really, it’s a Holocene warm period, things get warmer. No need to drag witchcraft into it. But, they have to

That doesn’t mean that winter weather hasn’t changed over the years. Climate change is causing temperatures to rise across the country—and it’s impacting precipitation patterns.

“Decembers have warmed three to five degrees across the country in the last 75 years,” says Robinson.

Horseshit. Complete horsheshit. I’m not even using the normal GIF for this, this is a complete pantload. The 6 month old just fill the diapers, and it now stinks. And there is zero chance they can actually show that 3-5 degrees in actual measured data.

That’s due to a mix of climate change and climate variability, the natural fluctuations in climate patterns in a given region. The northeast, upper Midwest and New York and New Jersey are some of the areas where this trend is strongest, says Globe. Climate change is also causing shorter, warmer winters. But that doesn’t mean that a white Christmas will become a thing of the past. Some areas that often see snow might see more intense storms due to climate change, as a warmer atmosphere is able to hold more moisture.

Warmer gets you more snow, too, because it is a cult.

Frequency of snow in Boston has been declining from about 1 year in 4 as a child yo 1 year in 10 currently. The average Christmas temp has gone up almost 3 degrees in my lifetime.
As the Goracle warned us: higher highs, and lower lows

  2. Aliassmithsmith says:

While the planet as a whole may have gotten 2.6V warmer some places may have actually gotten colde.
When I checked white Christmas in Boston since 45 it said about 3 degrees warmer. Alaska is warming 4 times faster than the planet average.that is what causes the polar vortex to be pushed south

  3. Professor Hale says:

    Same old story…

“Soon, children won’t remember what snow looks like”

“Soon, the polar ice caps will melt”. The north pole will be gone.

“Soon all the glaciers will be gone.”

“Soon the oceans will rise and flood every coastal city on the planet.

Actual observations though have failed to show any of that as true. Although, I have noticed that children in Honduras have never seen snow already, so maybe it is a little true.

32^F air holds more water vapor than does 22^F air!

Cultist William claimed the statement “Decembers have warmed three to five degrees across the country in the last 75 years,” is: Horseshit. Complete horseshit.

He should do a Google Search. It’s true! It’s a Denier Cult.

,????now Professor Hale will have to change his statement to
“Some children in Honduras have not seen any show since. 2016 because of global warming “

The last time we had a white Christmas was 2002, in Pennsylvania. It started snowing Christmas morning, and at 11:00 in the morning, the power went out. 14″ of wet, heavy snow, and the sparktricity was finally restored at 6:00 PM . . . on the 26th.

It got cold in the house, down to around 55º F, and, of course, Christmas dinner was mostly ruined, as all we could do was use the charcoal grill on the pack patio.

  7. Aliassmithsmith says:

Dana did you get a chance to look at a Google map of the 8 mile long road going though the Amazon rainforest
Belem is a major Brazilian city and seaport. Population 1 million 2 million in the metro area. The city needed a highway from its international airport there was residential and commercial development all around it looks like 3? Miles out of the 8 miles of it went inside of a city park of 5.4 sq miles it was either that or go through densely developed city areas. Where do you think the road should have been placed?

  8. Dana says:

This morning’s snowpocalypse was a whopping 2″. Even though Elaine is retired, she generally works two of three shifts a month, just to keep the vacation fund going, and she was scheduled today. I first up the 2010 Ford F-150, put it in 4-wheel-high to get out of the driveway — we have to go over a couple foot hump to get out — and then down to normal two-wheel drive and took her to the hospital.

It got up to a sunny 45.3º F at the farm this afternoon, and all of the white stuff is gone.

Dana did you get a chance to look at a Google map of the Belem city and airport? The city has a population of 1 million. 2 million in the metropolitan area. Of course the area extending from the airport into the city is all built up. The new road first goes through this commercial area for about 3 miles then the terrible environmental destruction begins. As it enters a 5.4 sq mile city park. Running on the inside edge it begins cutting trees!!! For about another 3 miles before going back into downtown Belem. Belem is the 12th largest city in Brazil. Not so e isolated village in the middle of the rain forest. And it sounds like only about 25% of these cultists actually stayed in hotels, no room for them. 2 cruise ships were hired for for dorm space, 10000 Air B&Bs, public schools were used as inside camping spots, as well as notary barracks.
The alternative route from the airport would have been through long established commercial and residential areas.
