Your Fault: Venomous Rabbitfish “Invading” Israel, Mediterranean Coasts

If only you had stopped eating meat, made your own clothes, and stopped using AC this could have been solved. Oh, and paying a tax. Don’t forget paying a tax

Venomous aquatic invader spreads across Israeli coasts, Europe thanks to climate change

While there is no shortage of threats facing Israel and Europe right now, climate change may have introduced a new one: the rabbitfish (a.k.a the Aras).

The venomous aquatic invader comes in four sub-species, two of which are currently found in the Mediterranean, Tel Aviv University Zoologist Dr. Menachem Goren explained to the Jerusalem Post.

The first and most common, known as the marble spinefoot, was first recorded on Israeli shorelines over 200 years ago in 1924. The second, the dusky spinefoot, was found along Israeli shores in 1955 after traveling through the Suez Canal.

While the fish has been long recorded in Israel now, the population has dramatically increased in recent years as a result of climate change, spreading as far into Europe as France, Dr. Goren explained. The dusky spinefoot, in particular, is less sensitive to cold waters, making its movements to Europe much easier.

So, it’s nothing new, it’s just doing better. Perhaps less pollution in the Med, more protections for the waters. Oh, wait, spreading because of cold waters? Huh. Cult.

Both subspecies are herbivores, eating up much of the Mediterranean’s green algae and seagrass, the environment used for cover by native fish and crustaceans.

Do these doomsday cultists not realize that life actually spreads on Earth? Always has, always will? Oh, right, cult.

At least the media are not saying that these venomous bunnyfish are invading the coasts of ‘Palestine,’ a tacit admission that there is no such thing as ‘Palestine’!

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

If Netanyahoo, 47, Teach and Mr Dana get their wish all the Palestinians will become extinct!

Anyway, as you all finally admit, global warming is real and is having effects on human life. Stop whining and get used to it.

Relax! You’ve won!! Nothing of consequence will be done about warming. We’ll have to adapt.

Critically, Mister Forty-$even is stopping all global warming research AND commincations! WINNING!!

      • Jl says:

What “Palestinians”? Is there some made-up country that we don’t know about?

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Ther is much you do not know! Did you know that humans draw borders and create countries? It’s true! Some countries even change their names!

And sometimes groups are known by their region of origin.

Your argument, such as it is, is not the conclusive gotcha you imagine!

  2. Professor Hale says:

Those are called “invasive species”. The fault is the opening of the Suez canal, allowing the fish to swim from the Indian Ocean to the Med, instead of all the way around Africa. Once the canal opened the introduction and thriving of new species was inevitable, as was the native species being displaced. It happens all the time all over the world and has nothing to do with climate change.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

The Suez Canal opened 155 years ago.

    • Dana says:

So, we can now call the so-called ‘Palestinians’ an “invasive species”?

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Your ignorance of history is impressive!! But your hatred is maturing nicely. Jesus wept.

Palestine is ancient and one of the oldest areas of human civilization. Israel was created after WWOI.

Humans are a species, Palestinians are a people based on heritage from an area. BTW, the State of Palestine is Gaza and The West Bank.

Palestine is ancient and one of the oldest areas of human civilization. Israel was created after WWOI.

The dual Kingdoms of Judea and Israel were created by David, 3,000 years ago. “Palestine” was a word used by the Romans, possibly a based on Philistine or Philistia, after their conquest of Judea in 63 BC.

Following World War I, the British took control of the area as the Ottomans lost control of the Holy Land, and the Brits called it Palestine. After decades of slow Jewish immigration to the Holy Land, especially following Theodor Herzl’s Der Judenstaat was published, the European Jewish population which survived the Shoah, completely dispossessed of their homes, properties, and livelihoods by the Nazis, saw that they had no place to go other than the Levant, and Jewish immigration back to their ancestral homeland increased. The British, choosing to ally themselves with the Arabs — and their oil — tried to restrict Jewish emigration to the area, but the Mossad Aliyah Alef — the Jewish agency which handled legal immigration — and Mossad Aliyah Bet — the clandestine department of the Haganah which handled illegal immigration — kept hammering at the British blockade, and Jewish refugees kept making it in.

In 1948, the Jews reformed the state of Israel, declaring their independence; President Truman was the first world leader to recognize the independence of Israel.

Naturally, the Arabs disagreed, and five Arab nations attacked Israel. Massively outnumbered and outgunned by the Arabs, the Israelis nevertheless defeated them, and a quasi-stable ceasefire was declared after a year of fighting; the Arabs never recognized Israel as a nation.

In 1956, Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal and closed it to Israeli shipping. Egypt then blockaded the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba, hemming in Israeli shipping from the south. Once again, the Arabs were beaten.

In 1967, the Arabs got their asses handed to them, as Israel seized the rest of the land between the Jordan and the sea, the Golan heights, Gaza and Sinai from Egypt. In 1973, the Arabs attacked again, and got the same results.

BTW, the State of Palestine is Gaza and The West Bank.

Not even the ‘Palestinians’ agree that that is all. They want all of the land, including Israel. They’ve been telling us that for decades now; why won’t you believe them? But, even with all of their Arab brethren helping them, they not only couldn’t win what they wanted, they couldn’t even keep what they had.

The history of conquest always has losers as well as winners, and the ‘Palestinians’ are just plain losers.

      • Professor Hale says:

Certainly the ones in the USA and Europe qualify.

This is fairly minor. Have a look at how the Lionfish has invaded American and Caribbean waters.
