Climate Cultist Who Immolated Himself Highlights Darker Side Of “Climate Grief”

Yes, yes it does, just, not in the way that Ja’Han Jones at Joy Reid’s wacko MSNBC blog thinks

How an activist’s self-immolation exposed the dark reality of ‘climate grief

A climate change activist who set himself on fire in an apparent act of protest against inadequate climate change policies in the U.S. died over the weekend.

Wynn Bruce, 50, self-immolated in front of the Supreme Court on Friday, which was Earth Day. He died from his injuries Saturday.

Kritee Kanko, a climate scientist who described herself as Bruce’s friend, tweeted Sunday that he died “to bring attention to climate crisis.” She said he had been planning the act for at least a year.

A year? That’s pretty disturbing. Did no one else notice the climate cult crazy?

Bruce’s death followed a cascade of unnerving climate reports. Though we don’t know what other factors may have played a role in Bruce’s decision, his death prompted discussions regarding the deep impact the perpetual climate crisis can have on people’s psyche. (snip)

Experts in recent years have sounded the alarm on “climate grief.” The phenomenon was explained in an NBC News report in 2018:

The increasing visibility of climate change, combined with bleak scientific reports and rising carbon dioxide emissions, is taking a toll on mental health, especially among young people, who are increasingly losing hope for their future. Experts call it “climate grief,” depression, anxiety and mourning over climate change.

Psychology experts have long recognized the role climate plays in mental health. A 2017 report from the American Psychological Association found “the psychological responses to climate change, such as conflict avoidance, fatalism, fear, helplessness, and resignation are growing.”(snip)

It’s possible there were many contributing factors that led to Bruce’s death. But we can’t rule out that he could be a tragic example of climate fatalism.

Perhaps the media could tone down their “we’re completely doomed” schtick, which drives people to feel grief to the point where they spend a year planning to set themselves on fire.

Fake news and horrific statements have been part of the deal for decades.

“To capture the public imagination, we have to offer up some scary scenarios make simplified dramatic statements and little mention of any doubts one might have.

Each of us has to decide the right balance between being effective, and being honest.”

Leading greenhouse advocate, Dr Stephen Schneider ( in interview for “Discover” magazine, Oct 1989)

Now anyway you cut it that is an invitation to lie. And he didn’t stop there.

“Dr Stephen Schneider is perhaps the most media-exposed Greenhouse expert, having developed a charismatic speaking style, complemented by his 1970s good looks, and penchant for extravagant claims about impending environmental disaster.

For example, in a TV interview in 1990 to Britain’s Channel 4, he remarked –

“The rate of change is so fast that I don’t hesitate to call it potentially catastrophic for ecosystems.”

The cited article told us one true thing:

Psychology experts have long recognized the role climate plays in mental health.

And when the left stir in Chicken Little yelling, “The sky is falling! The sky is falling!” is it any surprise that the mental health of some people veers off into complete insanity?

Kritee Kanko, a climate scientist who described herself as Bruce’s friend, tweeted Sunday that he died “to bring attention to climate crisis.” She said he had been planning the act for at least a year.

So, Mr Bruce had been planning this for at least a year, Dr Kanko knew about it, but if she tried to get him help or tried to stop him from his insane act, the article never mentions it.

    Some friend!
