Climate Hysteria Today: Who’s Up For Living Behind Sea Walls?

This is your fault, you know. That fossil fueled trip to the burger shop? For shame

As sea levels rise, are we ready to live behind giant walls?

Climate change, it’s fair to say, is complicated. And it’s big. One of the main challenges of responding effectively is simply getting your head around the scale of the problem.

Well, it’s easy when climate cultists simply just scaremonger and say we’re doomed. Unless Everyone Else is taxed and has their freedom taken by Government.

A new study by European Commission scientists, now published in the journal Nature Communications, is a classic of this type. It looks at the costs of protecting coastal communities from climate change. The authors underline that our coasts will suffer from sea levels that are predicted to rise as much as one metre by the end of the century, as well as from more intense storms.

Of all the many varied impacts in a warming planet, sea level rise is one of the most straightforward to predict, although it will not affect everywhere the same and so some communities will be more at risk than others. We can be quite confident that the sea level is rising due to climate change, because sea water expands as it warms and because extra water is flowing from melting glaciers and ice sheets.

As the oceans warm, the sea levels rise bit by bit – and if ice sheets on Antarctica or Greenland collapse and water currently locked up is released, then sea levels will rise very suddenly, and by a lot. It will be expensive to deal with these impacts, and this new research shows by quite how much in Europe. Given the costs of flooded coastal cities, the European Commission scientists suggest that it would save money in the long run to build improved sea defences around 70% of the continent’s coastline.

Do we really want to live in a world in which we all live behind huge walls? Is this the only way to adapt? Many of us have trapped ourselves in places that will no longer be safe, and in some places building large defences is the only option. Certainly London will not survive without the next-generation Thames barrier.

Sea level rise is completely usual during the Holocene, which is the end of the last glacial age. There doesn’t have to be any anthropogenic causation involved….you know what? Y’all know all this stuff.

But there are other options in other places, and we can “defend” in different ways. Nature-based solutions such as recreating dunes or marshland or retreating from coastal zones are possibilities that we should consider wherever we can.

And you know what else?

The preferable alternative is to take a more nuanced approach. We know the climate is changing, and we will need a combination of more concrete, clever natural solutions, and better flood forecasts to prepare for what’s ahead. But by showing the sheer scale of the “hard” defences that would be needed on their own to keep Europeans safe, this new paper represents more scientific evidence that cutting emissions now, and mitigating the worst impacts, is the best future we can hope for.

If we tax you and lock you down we can stop the sea walls.

by the time they need to build sea walls, concrete will be outlawed so they will have to make it out of ?????. Who knows. By then they will have outlawed mowing your yard for fear it will put a molecule of co2 into the atmosphere.

The AGW people really are CRAZY, Insane Communists funded under the table by CHINA and other ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT elitists who want what we have to give to others who dont have.

    Just ask the Democrats.

Their are poor BLACKS and ASIANS and HISPANICS (Ill ignore the white people cause the left hates white people while calling us racist)WHO ARE STARVING and jobless and they want to bring in 100’s of millions of more poor blacks and asians and hispanics and let our couple billionaires PAY for them.

The left is sick. Mindlessly sick. So much so that it is now clearly evident this is an agenda driven by CCP CHINESE COMMUNISTS because it totally lacks any sense as does MOST OF WHAT THEY DO IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY!!

  2. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Donald J. Trump: “not a big believer in global warming”, “a total hoax”, “bullshit”, and “pseudoscience.”

Yet, Donald J. Trump successfully petitioned to have a seawall built to protect his Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Ireland, in County Clare.

Don’t listen to tRump but rather observe his actions.

Teach claims this bout of rapid global warming is not man-made, that the sea level rise is natural – so… if the sea level is rising, regardless of cause, we should we ignore it and NOT build seawalls to protect coastal cities? Curiouser and curiouser.

    • Nighthawk says:

You just can’t help lying can you?

Yes, Trumps is having a scaled down sea wall built but the requests that were submitted and approval was based on did NOT mention climate change or global warming as a reason. Even the environmental impact statement submitted by an organization not connected to Trump in any way failed to mention climate change or global warming. And if sea walls are such a great idea, why is this one being held up by lawsuits?

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Nighthawk is not telling the truth, either out of ignorance or malice.

Trump Inc used global warming to justify their request to build a rock seawall to prevent further erosion of the course by rising seas and more frequent storms.

if sea walls are such a great idea, why is this one being held up by lawsuits? Ask those who filed the suits. But one could speculate that building a seawall to protect a billionaire’s golf course differs from protecting a city of millions from flooding.

        • formwiz says:

If that’s the only way they’ll build it…

          Kind of like Merrick Garland.

        • Nighthawk says:

          Politico?? Really??

You do know that Politico’s crap on this was proven wrong and biased right?? Of course you know that but you will continue to point to their lies to bolster your own lies.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Politico is more trustworthy than Nighthawk.

Can Nighthawk link the reports that “Politico’s crap on this was proven wrong”?

We’ll wait. If your rebuttal is at all credible, we’ll recant.

        • EvenMoreFunny says:

I just read this politico story which basically says, Trump was denied 200,000 tons of rock to shore up the shore around his golf course so he hired a eco-friendly Irish firm to use AGW and the were all gonna die on a country that is both feet in on AGW.

Had this gone through initially it would have been no big deal but because he is Now President the Irish are holding this up because of statements Trump made as far back as 2012 in which he said he did not believe in AGW, blamed China for much of it and has repeated that process every since.

So there is nothing contrary here. There is only Ireland being stupid and letting their country erode and get the orange man bad.

One only has to remember that Ireland is a huge AGW both feet in country and Trumps comments prior to him requesting this sea wall showed they wont help him even if it helps their own country.

This strikes me more as a country that doesnt believe in AGW themselves. Its just fashionable and one has to wonder how much money they get from China.

          Speaking of China.

Looking back at 40 years of diplomatic relations between Ireland and China, Coveney, who also acts as the Irish minister for foreign affairs and trade, described the bilateral ties between the two countries as “warm and friendly”, which have witnessed a rapid development in various fronts including trade, political relations and people-to-people exchanges.

Ireland established diplomatic links with China in June 1979 and the two sides lifted their ties to a strategic partnership for mutually beneficial cooperation in 2012. Trade and investment are the cornerstone of Ireland-China relationship, said Humphreys.

China pledges to build stronger ties with Ireland: senior legislator. (2016-11-16) Senior Chinese legislator Ji Bingxuan concluded his three-day visit to Ireland on Tuesday, pledging to build stronger ties with the European country.

On and on these stories go. So now we know why this has been held up. It is China telling Ireland what to do.

By the way does anyone realize that China has cut ties with Australia because they are demanding accountability. No more trade.

Did you know China is now ordering the testing of 11 million people in Wuhan in 10 days as of yesterday?

Does anyone realize that China has their tentacles in about 140 countries around the globe?

Does anyone on the left realize how evil the CCP of China really is. I can’t even find these stories in the MSM. Only Trump is Hitler. Any real news is no where to be found in America.

    • formwiz says:

      It’s called pragmatism.

It’s how you get past pain-in-the-ass bureaucrats.

      • Kye says:

Tell me about it, formwiz. The shit I had to do in business to get past the bureau weenies. Trump’s lawyers said what they had to say to get what in a non corrupt world would ave been just another business negotiation. I bet they greased some palms too…leftist palms no doubt.

  3. Kye says:

First, Politico, a commie operation if there ever was one, offers no proof other than their word that they “reviewed” an application. Second, their word is basically hearsay and is worthless. But let’s say they are correct. What Trump’s council uses to apply for permits has nothing to do with what Trump believes. Council is a fiduciary relationship and is duty bound to use all legal means to support their client. Citing glow ball warming notwithstanding they used all arguments at their convenience.

I know that your entire life is consumed with only hatred for Trump and his followers but busting a guy’s balls because he hires astute lawyers is stupid. Stop being stupid.

Donald Trump, like me, most of the folks at this site and most people around the world, does not believe in glow ball warming and like us believes in Climate Change. Your hate for those of us who are not radical idiots and commie propagandists is revolting. Stop being revolting also. Smarten up will ya?

And you’re using POLITICO as a source? Why not just quote Xi? Idiot.–JuMoC274ME/XrLkVkmmnAI/AAAAAAACRbQ/bztJYFVVGDMqmEO6jL6px7Y5wrCU3-FggCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1%2B1%2B1%2Bdfgdfgdgdffff.png

Trump 2020 Because we DON’T believe lying Red Chinese or their American spokesmen, Elwood.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Nighthawk accused me of lying, when in fact he was making stuff up.

Most people DO understand the Earth is warming from CO2, even if most commenters here do not.

      • formwiz says:

        No, they don’t.

That’s why you’re having trouble getting the Green Nude Eel passed.

  4. formwiz says:

Another reason global wahoo is a crock, from the eminent Mr Surber.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

      ‘ignorant’ is not spelled ’eminent’…

The world economies were not shut down. We’re still adding CO2 to the atmosphere faster than CO2 leaves the atmosphere. Of course the CO2 levels are still rising. It’s arithmetic, maybe calculus.

Let’s say you have a 1000 mL graduated cylinder with 500 mL of water in it. Every day you add 10 mL of water to it. The water level in the cylinder increases every day. Now imagine one day you can only add 5 mL. The water level in cylinder still increases!

      • Kye says:

For all purposes the “capitalist” worlds economies have been shut down. The only people doing business in America with few exceptions are the rich Democrat owned megacompanies. The little guy has been crushed under the boot of leftist governors and mayors and driven into poverty and bankruptcy because small businessmen vote Trump.

The leftists under Nazi Pelousy are trying to pass another lie filled aid for small business bill which does everything to aide corrupt Democrat favorites and crush small business. She is a big fukin liar.

The Heroes Act reportedly contains many leftist provisions in the bill, including:

$755 million for the government for Washington, DC. The bill would also allow the D.C. government to participate in the Federal Reserve’s Municipal Liquidity (MLF) to support additional lending to the city.
$1 million for the National Science Foundation to study the spread of coronavirus-related “disinformation.”
$10 million for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) as well as $10 million fo the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Eliminates limitations on the federal deduction for the state and local taxes (SALT). Republicans limited this deduction through the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The SALT deduction primarily benefits wealthy, largely Democrat states.
Grants additional aid for State and local government bailouts. The bill contains $500 billion in funding for state government relief and $375 billion in aid to local governments. Senate Republicans such as Sens. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) have contended this will particularly aid fiscally irresponsible blue states such as California, New York, and Illinois to the detriment of more fiscally responsible states such as Texas and Florida.
$25 million for migrant and seasonal farmworkers, including emergency support services through the Department of Labor.
$1.7 billion for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions, $20 million for Howard University, $11 million for Gallaudet University, $11 million for the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
$15 million to maintain operations, rental assistance supportive services, and other actions to mitigate the impact on low-income people with HIV/AIDS through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Create a two month special enrollment period for Obamacare. The bill also extends full premium subsidies to allow workers to maintain their health insurance coverage through COBRA.
Allows Attorney General William Barr to make grants to states to create state-run hate crime reporting hotlines.
Relief for up to $10,000 of up-front debt relief for all Department of Education loan borrowers.
Authorizes up to $50 million in Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) “environmental justice” grants to investigate or address the disproportionate impact of coronavirus in environmental communities.
        $75 billion for housing assistance.
Mandatory early voting for every state and mandatory mail-in ballots for every state. Nate Madden, a press secretary for the House Oversight Committee Republicans, said it would be a “nightmare scenario for voter fraud.”
Allows wealthy people who make money from dividends and royalties to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is designed for lower-income Americans.
Extends assistance designed for nonprofits to political action groups and chamber of commerce-style associations. Open Markets Institute fellow Matt Stoller called it a “corporate lobbyist bailout.”

Pelosi’s Heroes Act represents a staggering amount of spending. They are all liars!!!

Trump 2020 These liars gotta go…..preferably on a rail.

  5. formwiz says:

    But Eminent is.

Hardly calc. So you’re ignorant in mathematics.

And the economies have been shut down, at least as bad as the Depressions. God knows, you tried hard enough.

    And miniscule is still miniscule.

Politico is about as trustworthy as Ricky Madcow. And I believe he did.

EvenMoreFunny did so. Waiting for the recantation.
