Sadiq Khan sets up £50m fund to reduce emissions in London
London mayor Sadiq Khan is to spend £50m on a Green New Deal for London as part of a pledge to make the UK capital carbon neutral by 2030. (that’s roughly $6.5 million U.S., which, doesn’t seem a lot for government, but, remember, this is just London)
The mayor, who faces the electorate in May, said the announcement highlights his commitment to tackling the climate crisis and improving London’s dangerous levels of air pollution.
“I’m unapologetic at how ambitious my plans are for a Green New Deal for London because we can’t afford not to be ambitious when it comes to saving our planet,†Khan told the Guardian. (snip)
The mayor has introduced an ultra-low emissions zone (Ulez) in central London which is due to expand to the north and south circulars in 2021. However, other cities – including Manchester and Birmingham – have announced ambitious plans to improve air quality and encourage cycling, and Khan has been criticised for not moving quickly enough.
But the mayor insisted he was determined to make London a leading green city.
“These issues are personal to me. I don’t want my children to grow up in a world where our very way of life is threatened by the climate crisis. And as someone who suffers from adult onset asthma, I understand the price we pay for failing to clean up our toxic air.â€
But, he’s good with them being stabbed, I guess.
Teach any thoughts on the GOP in Congress hoping that they can convince Trump to “evolve†on climate change rather than risk losing their few young conservatives?

The homicide rate of London is much lower than New York, LA, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas, Philly, San Antonio, San Diego, etc.

Meanwhile the U.S. has, per country, reduced their emissions more than anyone else by simply leaving the Paris Accords, and letting the (relatively)free market rule the energy marketplace, all during a time of increasing population and an expanding economy. So John, it looks like Trump and the US have already “evolved†more than almost everyone else. Of course, this may not be satisfying to you as it’s been done absent any new taxes…

tRump didn’t cause the drop in US CO2 emissions, which began in 2007.
EU emissions have been on the decline since 1980.
China emissions have increased 11-fold over the past 50 years.
India will soon surpass the EU in emissions.
Didn’t say he did. But he pulled out of the Paris Accords, which if enacted on would have probably limited fracking, the main cause of reduced emissions. “EU emissions on decline..†If true, exactly my point. What have they spent, 100 of billions to achieve close to what the US does? Not very smart…
Do you know how much the EU has spent or just making that up?
