U.N To Vote On Nullifying U.S. Jerusalem Decision Or Something

It looks like the United Nations has gotten a bit too big for their britches, thinking they can nullify U.S. law and presidential decisions

UN to vote Monday on call for US Jerusalem decision to be withdrawn

The United Nations Security Council is due to vote on Monday on a draft resolution calling for the withdrawal of U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, diplomats said, a move likely to face a Washington veto.

The one-page Egyptian-drafted text, seen by Reuters, does not specifically mention the United States or Trump. Diplomats say it has broad support among the 15-member council, and while it is unlikely to be adopted, the vote will further isolate Trump on the issue.

To pass, a resolution needs nine votes in favor and no vetoes by the United States, France, Britain, Russia or China.

Trump abruptly reversed decades of U.S. policy this month when he recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, generating outrage from Palestinians. Trump also plans to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

The Jerusalem Embassy Act was passed in 1995, and declared that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and that the U.S. embassy would be moved to the city. In fact, it was Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Barack Obama who failed to uphold the law. Trump is following the law.

Arab foreign ministers agreed to seek a UN Security Council resolution on the issue. The draft UN text expresses “deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem.”

It “affirms that any decisions and actions which purport to have altered, the character, status or demographic composition of the Holy City of Jerusalem have no legal effect, are null and void and must be rescinded in compliance with relevant resolutions of the Security Council.”

The draft also calls upon all countries to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in Jerusalem. (snip)

The draft council resolution “demands that all states comply with Security Council resolutions regarding the Holy City of Jerusalem, and not to recognize any actions or measures contrary to those resolutions.”

Huh. So the UN thinks it can change U.S. law? Morons. Further, we see the typical Israel Derangement Syndrome/hatred on display. Via Twitchy

It’s not, because the U.S. could simply veto the resolution in the Security Council. And can utterly ignore any General Body vote.

More: the vote was 14-1, with the U.S. shooting the idiocy down and

How about we extricate ourselves from the blue helmet rape squad? A happy bonus would be that without Uncle Sugar writing all the checks, they couldn’t afford to do any of the stupid crap that they’re famous for.

The increasingly emotional and inflammatory TEACH inaccurately typed:

Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Barack Obama who failed to uphold the law. Trump is following the law.

    but,

Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995: The law required the U.S. to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by a set deadline, but conceded that the move could be put off for six months at a time as long as the President “determines and reports to Congress in advance that such suspension is necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States.”

The US crook-in-chief is further isolating the US from the rest of the world. 23% of Americans agree with this approach.

    TEACH risibly and emotionally typed:

So the UN thinks it can change U.S. law? Morons.

You can’t possibly believe the UN “thinks” that can you? So why type it? Moron.

Don’t go there, little dumbass, unless you prefer to discuss volunteering for versus joining the Army.

    • Dana says:

Do the member governments of the United nations “think” that they can overrule American government decisions? I’d guess that they aren’t that stupid, but they certainly act like it at times. We can only base our judgements on their actions, not on what they might believe but keep private.

Perhaps the Security Council believe they have the authority to declare for any nation where their nation’s capital must sit; could the Security Council decide that no, they didn’t like Washington, DC, and insist that the United States move our capital to New York City or Lexington, Kentucky or Muskogee, Oklahoma?

Or, perhaps, the members believe that they have the authority to determine a nation’s government? After all, President Trump is only a temporary head of government, not something as long-lasting as a nation’s capital. Do the Security Council have the authority to declare that no, they don’t like him — which is certainly true for most of the members — and that he should be unseated in favor of Hillary Clinton?

The younger President Bush did decide that he had the authority to determine the leadership of Iraq, and he had the military power to do just that. But, that’s the whole point: such was determined by military force, not by ‘international law’ or some other cockamamie claim. The Security Council can determine where the capital of Israel sits when it musters the military power to enforce its judgement.

    Our esteemed host quoted:

The draft also calls upon all countries to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in Jerusalem.

Using some strained diplomatic language, several countries, including the United States, have consulates in Jerusalem.

The countries which operate these consulates do not regard them as diplomatic missions to Israel or the Palestinian Authority, but as diplomatic missions to Jerusalem. The heads of these missions do not submit letters of credence to the Israeli president, PLO Chairman, or PNA president. Where the countries maintaining these consulates also have embassies to Israel, usually located in Tel Aviv, the Jerusalem-based consul is not subordinate to the ambassador in Tel Aviv (which is the normal diplomatic usage) but reports directly to the country’s foreign ministry.

As a candidate, Donald Trump campaigned on moving our embassy to Jerusalem. Now, he’s doing something really radical like trying to keep his promise.

Radical indeed. In fact, he’s making the world less safe. In any event, it won’t happen. Public opinion and looming political losses in 2018 will slow him down.

If the GOP won’t impeach him, the next Congress will.

Really? He doesn’t require congressional authorization, because he already has it. Congress could block the use of funds for construction of a new embassy, but that’s unlikely: Republicans support it, and many Democrats represent heavily Jewish districts.

Less safe? We were s’posed to see the Middle East erupt in an orgy of apoplexy; there were a few demonstrations, and four Palestinians went to meet Allah, but, other than that, not much happened.

A clue for you: the Palestinians have always hated us, and there’s nothing we could do to appease them. And the old policy, of Presidents issuing waivers to avoid the 1995 law, has been going on for 22 years now; has there been a peace plan yet?

The fact is that we have known what any ‘settlement’ of the Israeli-Palestinian situation would look like, ever since 1967. Any college sophomore could write up an even-Steven partition plan, and the Israelis even accepted one, in 2001, but the Palestinians would not accept what President Clinton said was the best deal they could ever hope to get.

There is no peace because enough of the Palestinian population is still holding out for victory rather than peace.`Arab governments have been using Palestinian issue for political purposes, but the other Arabs see the Palestinians as trash.

    • Dana says:

Jeffrey has been enjoying some recreational pharmaceuticals:

If the GOP won’t impeach him, the next Congress will.

The next Congress will be controlled by the GOP as well, so it won’t happen. But, even if we assume that you are correct, and the Democrats take the House, it would require 67 votes in the Senate to remove him from office. Of the 35 senators up for re-election in 2018, only ten are Republicans, so even if the Democrats swept them all, they’d have only 61 Senate seats, and would need six Republicans to go along with them. Considering that President Trump’s most strident GOP opponents, Jeff Flake and Bob Corker, are not running for re-election, and John McCain will be stone-cold graveyard dead bu 2019, where do you think the Democrats will find six Republiocan senators to go along with them?

      Impeachment talk? You are

      • Dana says:

Oops! Stupid math mistake. Democrats have 49 seats in the Senate, so even if they sweep every Senate race in 2018, they’d still have only 59 Senate seats, not 61.

      • Jeffery says:

Sorry, but I don’t use drugs. Impeachment requires a simple majority in the House. A conviction requires 2/3rds in the Senate. Impeachment is quite likely and if tRump continues his downward spiral, conviction is a distinct possibility unless you believe Senate Repubs will put party ahead of country, as they usually do. As tRump continues marching America into hell, it’s likely that even the GOP will gut him and replace his carcass with Pence.

tRump’s approval will soon drop into the 20s, especially as the minority that voted for him expecting help for the working classes realize he’s fooked them over as the GOP always does…

You should get used to the idea of President Pence.

  5. Fargo says:

Perhaps its time we start a special investigator into Obama and his birth certificate.

I mean after all its time we start impeaching everyone and a guy that would leave behind law breakers to impede the government is certainly at the top of my list. And even if we dont find anything about his birth certificate I propose that we just investigate him for everything.

Be sure to hire a special counsel whose entire staff hates Obama and the democrats.

  6. Jl says:

Impeachment? Yes, right after that “Russian collusion” is found. Or is it now sexual harassment? Or……

  7. Fargo says:

If the GOP won’t impeach him, the next Congress will.

You do not want to walk down this road. The GOP tried to impeach clinton and they were shellacked at the polls. They spent 8 years tearing down a very popular president in Reagan and the Clinton thing was payback.

When paybacks start happening in American politics then we truly have become a banana republic.

Harry Reid went Nuclear and that allowed MCconnell to do the same. What goes around comes around. Your doing all this screaming and if things are this terrible then in 2018 the GOp will be destroyed in the midterms.

The reason your screaming is the same reason you were laughing before the 2016 election. Everyone thought everyone hated Trump. Turns out that wasnt the case. Im willing to bet that jobs in the home, food on the table and a mortgage thats being paid will overcome your insane belief that the most scrutinized man on the planet by a hostile force who has come out almost clean should be impeached because you dont like a non politician who talks locker room talk to the people.

I love it. I love a politician who says what he thinks. Its actually refreshing. Its also refreshing that he made all these promises got elected by people who hated him and now hes fulfulling his promises.

Poor ole jeffery Im pretty sure hes gonna need to check into mental health within the year. I find it funny over at MSNBC an ex GWB spokesman documented she underwent 18 months of therapy over Trump winning the nomination and the White House.

    Talk about Trump Dereangement Syndrome.

    • Jeffery says:

The GOP DID impeach Clinton, they just couldn’t convict him in the Senate. And yes, the GOP paid a price at the polls, but look at them now. In total control of America. House, Senate, White House, Supreme Court and the majority of the state houses. AND they’re consolidating their power by making it harder to vote and by gerrymandering safe GOP districts, eliminating “Dem” districts in the process!

But tRump is sui generis. He is not like Clinton or Bush or Bush or Reagan. And right now the majority of Americans are embarrassed by his antics. His floor is 23%, comprising those Americans who think the Earth is 6000 yrs old, that biological evolution is a communmist/anti-christian plot, that “gay” is a choice, that abortion should be banned and that AGW is a hoax.

We’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out. Perhaps badmouthing every other nation except Russia will make American safer. Perhaps tax cuts for the wealthy/corporations and adding to the national debt when the economy is improving will put more money in the pockets of the working classes. Perhaps speaking approvingly of neoNazis, white nationalists and the KKK didn’t alienate millions of decent Americans. Perhaps soliciting help from the Russians to win a Presidential election will be forgotten. Perhaps kicking millions of poor children off their healthcare plans will make them tougher, better citizens. Perhaps kicking 13 million poor Americans off their healthcare plans will make the more independent. Perhaps tRump’s functioning as a Russian “asset” will benefit America in the long run.

Trump says what the people who cant’ think, think.

  8. Fargo says:

Keep up that smack talk Trump. Talk down your nose to these people who think they know everything. We have one right here. hes called Jeffery. He knows everything. He was part of the collusion investigation. He was there when trump met with the Kremin Politburo on how to win the race. Jeffery was there when HRC didnt realize that she had 100’s of secret files on her server and the law states that INTENT doesnt matter. In fact I bet he was the one with the hammer smashing phones for his mistress. If you accidently expose secret government information your just as guilty as if you did it on purpose. The law is clearly written, intent does not matter in these cases as comey said in his FIX IS IN exxoneration letter BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HRC WAS GOING TO WIN AND WANTED TO KEEP HIS JOB…………..

Comey said no charges cause we cant prove intent. Well gee for the general public that all made sense because they would go back to work and turn off the news ignoring the fact that YOU DO NOT NEED TO PROVE INTENT after he just laid out a ton of evidence that would have put Hrc and her band of merry liars in jail for a long time.

Got it. Id rather have a crude, obnoxious loudmouth who is getting things done for the people than a old, self obsessed woman who only cares about her bottom line.

So keep on this rant Jeffery not only is it funny but Im willing to bet it will elect more not less Republicans in 2018. Providing Bannon doesnt primary every GOP’er in sight with more Roy Moores.

    Keep up the pressure trump.
