Can Trump tolerate dissent

IN THE glow of his election victory Nov. 8, after months of a foul and bitter campaign, Donald Trump invoked a familiar and reassuring message. “Now it is time for America to bind the wounds of division,” he said. “I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all of Americans, and this is so important to me.” It was important for the nation, too.

Over the weekend, Mr. Trump grew infuriated when the cast of the Broadway hit “Hamilton” delivered a message aloud to Vice President-elect Mike Pence after curtain call, appealing to the new administration to be inclusive….

OK, you probably know the story on that by now. Here’s the thing: there’s a time and place for everything. Propriety. This was not the time nor place. Perform the show. Afterwards, go to the press. Doing it on-stage makes it all about themselves, and drags everyone into the kerfuffle. People paid good money. Consider Kanye West. He went on a rant in support of Trump on stage (along with Beyonce, Jay Z, and others). Not the time nor place. Play the concert. Give people what they paid their money for. There’s just too much mixing of the personal with the political.

Furthermore, Free Speech doesn’t mean people can’t respond. The 1st Amendment does mean that Trump, though he hasn’t taken office yet, cannot penalize or threaten to penalize their narcissistic protest.

These kind of outbursts helped fuel Mr. Trump’s political rise; he has always been thin-skinned and prone to rapid-fire insults. But there is something new and deeply worrisome about the weekend’s tweet storm: Mr. Trump is soon to be president of the United States. His words matter.

Yes, words matter. Things like “if they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun” would set the WPEB off if Trump said it.

What is so disturbing here is not just Mr. Trump’s hotheaded Twitter habits, but rather his casual disregard for freedom of expression and visceral intolerance of criticism.

If only the WPEB had been as worked up when Mr. Obama targeted Conservative groups via the Internal Revenue Service. Mr. Obama has targeted Congressional Republicans, the Supreme Court, private citizens, and private corporations. He’s targeted Christian churches. He’s lectured citizens for daring to not hold the same opinion as he does. He’s attempted to get Fox News thrown out of the White House press pool. He’s said nasty things about Americans who fail to believe what he believes. And he’s allowed his people to do this all under his watch, without attempting to stop the assaults on freedom.

Where was the WPEB? MIA.

Mr. Trump’s weekend tweets carried a tone of intimidation unfit for the presidency. The actor’s message and the television satire were examples of free expression. Whether Mr. Trump thinks they were rude or not funny is not relevant. He must embrace what it means to be president of all Americans: showing tolerance toward those who criticize him, now and for years to come.

Again, where was the WPEB these past years in the Era of Obama? Where was the WPEB when Obama used the power of the Executive Office to intimidate people across America? Where were they when he refused to show tolerance?

Of course not. ThinSkin-elect has meltdowns when private citizens politely ask his administration to consider ALL Americans, not just white guys. He had a meltdown when a TV show poked fun at him. He had a complete and total meltdown when he met with media moguls.

So no, Chumpelstilt-thinskin cannot tolerate dissent. If you don’t worship him, you’re an enemy.

Teach’s defense of Chump’s thin-skin and disregard of free expression is to point at Obaaaaaama!

It’s unlikely that Chump, at 70, will grow up. He’s an insecure man-baby. He has few redeeming qualities.

  2. Hank_M says:

It really is amazing. The media was exposed as partisan hacks during the election. They were exposed colluding with the Hillary campaign. Polls showed damn near no one trusted them anymore. And what do they do? The double down on stupid.

Then again, that’s what the left always does. They never learn.

  3. Jeffery says:

And as a neofascist, Chump will deal with his detractors with an iron fist, to the delight of his supporters.

  4. Rev.Hoagie® says:

And what do they do? The double down on stupid.

It’s a leftist trait, Hank_M. Look at the crazy coming from our own little communist fanatic. His new word is “neofascist” which the left made because they finally realized nobody was listening to their silly “racist” cries any longer. They are by nature very weak people. Low energy as our C in C would say.

Maybe that’s why Crooked Killary lost so badly. Soon perhaps, Sugar Bear will make his way to Acceptance and start talking like a grown-up. Nah, who am I kidding. Trump has turned Jeffery into a babbling, hysterical loon and it’s so cute to watch the melt down. Buh-bye Little Loon, buh-bye. Hahahahahahahaha.

You mean like Obama did with targeting dissenting voices with the IRS?

    Or with government agencies?

You mean like colleges trampling out dissenting voices that express freedom and condemn the leftist dream of totalitarianism?

Teach got this one right. Trump is a private citizen now. No one in their right minds would sit there and be abused and lied about and then when they need something from you, say “all is forgiven.”

Real life doesn’t work that way and it shouldn’t.

No one wants to see the media shut down, but at the same time, most people want accountability from the media.

You’re just mad that Trump called out the lying dogs that you believed.

  6. Jeffery says:

Unfortunately, Chump is not a “private citizen” any longer.

People want accountability from the media, but from all media, correct?

Chump is in for a rough road if he expects no criticism. He’s the least popular prez elected in a long time. And the disdain for him is extreme.

Perhaps he’ll find a way to use the force of the State to quiet dissent. The US prez has extraordinary resources to use and abuse, and Chump has shown that he doesn’t have the self-control possessed by most normal people.

I doubt that he’ll send troops into the NYT, Newsweek or CNN, but as his advisers always say – “We’re not ruling anything out!”

To mix a metaphore, “He’s a loose cannon, increasingly drunk on his newfound power.”

But I hope you’re right and he’ll limit his damage to supporting the extremist policies of the Tea Party House.

  7. Jeffery says:

Listen, we all understand Chump’s game. He wants the lapdog media to stop raising questions about his properties, foreign entities, his offspring “running” his assets, pay to play etc.

He’s a master of media misdirection – queries about Ivanka dealing with foreign leaders – Look over there, the Negro actor dissed VP Pence!. Meeting with your Indian business partners – Look over there, SNL hurt my feewings!

Follow the pattern. Negative reporting, look for an off target tweet, followed by denunciations and blamestorming the “unfair media!”

He’s clearly unfit for the office, but he’s our prez now, and it’s up to us to hold his tiny little feet to the fire and keep him from killing America.

  8. Jl says:

“Trump’s visceral intolerance of criticism.” How rich is that? Never mind the left’s visceral intolerance of election results. Obviously liberals have never been very self-aware.

  9. gitarcarver says:

Unfortunately, Chump is not a “private citizen” any longer.

I wasn’t aware that he had taken office or accepted a salary as a public servant or official. Perhaps you have a source on that?

The US prez has extraordinary resources to use and abuse, and Chump has shown that he doesn’t have the self-control possessed by most normal people.

This is hysterical coming from you. You never said a word when Obama was doing the very thing you think Trump may do. In other words, it was fine when the powers were used to promote ideas and positions you liked, but now you are deathly afraid without one shred of evidence that Trump has done the same thing.

It is just another hypocritical stance from you.

Listen, we all understand Chump’s game. He wants the lapdog media to stop raising questions about his properties, foreign entities, his offspring “running” his assets, pay to play etc.

Actually, the “game” is to have people report the truth. That would be a change for the better, don’t you think?

The media was in the tank for Obama and Hillary, and now that they got exposed, they are going to try and take out whomever they can. They have become their own worst enemy as one of the key issues in the last election said they didn’t trust the media.

So the real question is: “are you afraid of the truth or do you want the MSM to keep reporting lies?”

He’s clearly unfit for the office, but he’s our prez now, and it’s up to us to hold his tiny little feet to the fire and keep him from killing America.

You mean like Obama tried to kill America? Like Hillary wanted to keep the Obama legacy going? Destroy America like that?

We all get it Jeffery. You hate Trump. You call him (and others) names in some sort of visceral reaction to the fact that the people of the country rejected your ideas. They rejected your candidate. As much as you hate Trump, the fact of the matter is that the country hated Hillary even more and you can’t stand that.

So like a little child, you will stamp your feet, call others names and invent lies as well as repeat them.

As an adult, you should behave better than that.

  10. Jl says:

As J stomps his feet, Trump’s favorabilty rating up almost double digits

  11. Rev.Hoagie® says:

Jeffery, like the other trained monkeys on the left, only know what their handlers tell them. They exist in a leftist bubble where there is never dissent of any kind. Haven’t you noticed how Jeffery repeats the same slogans and talking points over and over and how whatever the “news media” is trumpeting so is Jeffery? All their talk is programmed that’s why right now they are rolling around in the streets, sitting in crying rooms and pulling their hair out. Their heroine has been defeated and in doing so their hero Oh! bama has been revealed a fraud and a loser. Smartest man in the room my ass. Just another leftist ideologue who managed to fool more fools longer than the others before him. But Crooked Stinky lost so Hahahahahahaha.

  12. Liam Thomas says:

I really dont know why Democrats are so upset….we just elected a democrat to the White House….He has already reniged on several campaign promises and is backtracking on others….such as AGW……

Give him 6 months and he will have Barak Obama as his personal advisor.

  13. Rev.Hoagie® says:

It is amazing isn’t it Liam? Up until about when he made his bid for President Trump was a life long liberal democrat. He associated mostly with democrats, went to their children’s weddings, did business with them and paid them their required bribes to do business. Now suddenly he’s a Republican and the idiot Jeffery even had the brain-fart to call him “conservative”. Trump is as conservative as Jeffery is Christian. Trump is a big government, big spending, heavy control freak democrat and he’ll always be one. Thing is, he beat that smelly Depends wearing skank Killary so that’s something. Hahahahaha.

  14. Jeffery says:

Teach: Why do you always defend Chump’s bad behavior by bringing up someone else’s purported bad behavior?

What Chump is doing is either bad or it’s not.

Idiot Rev: Why do you know so much about wearing Depend adult diapers? Hahahahaha.
