House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is threatening to take President Bush to court if he issues a signing statement as a way of sidestepping a carefully crafted compromise Iraq war spending bill.
Pelosi recently told a group of liberal bloggers, “We can take the president to court†if he issues a signing statement, according to Kid Oakland, a blogger who covered Pelosi’s remarks for the liberal website dailykos.com.
“The president has made excessive use of signing statements and Congress is considering ways to respond to this executive-branch overreaching,†a spokesman for Pelosi, Nadeam Elshami, said. “Whether through the oversight or appropriations process or by enacting new legislation, the Democratic Congress will challenge the president’s non-enforcement of the laws.â€

In the 1970s, congressional Democrats tried to get the courts to force President Nixon to stop bombing in Cambodia. The courts ruled that dissident lawmakers could not sue solely to obtain outcomes they could not secure in Congress.
The Dems cannot win through surrender legislation, so they want to play other games to tie up the President, his staff, and anyone else involved with Operation Iraqi Freedom and keep them from running the war.
Perhaps Bush should sue her as the leader of the House
Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates yesterday told Congress that al Qaeda will establish a stronghold in Iraq’s Anbar province if U.S. troops pull out prematurely and that the group is reacting to the war debate in Washington by stepping up attacks.
Furthermore, the entire war effort will be disrupted unless Congress quickly passes an emergency funding bill acceptable to President Bush, he said.
First, Sec. Gates, the Democrat Congress does not care about Al Qaeda fighting us in the place of our choosing, ie, Iraq. Pelosi doesn’t even believe they are there. Second, the Dems want the war effort to be disrupted, and have the ability to blame it on Bush, so that it will be ended at all costs.
And why not sue over her lies pre-midterm regarding Homeland Security. You remember her promise to follow all the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission and protect the homeland, right?
The House of Representatives passed a Homeland Security funding bill Wednesday night, but Republicans say Democrats stripped some important provisions out of it on the House floor.
"Homeland security and border security are inextricably linked, yet gone are the provisions that would have helped us create a better system of preventing the entry of illegal aliens into this country," Blunt said in a press release.
Democrats eliminated a provision requiring employers at airports and other sensitive locations to check the legal status of potential employees.
They also struck a provision directing the Homeland Security Department to protect against biological attacks on America’s food supply. Language allowing emergency communication grants to be used for first responder training was removed as well.
Wow, Nancy is being very tough, eh? It is bad enought that Democrats feel we should only play defense, and do not want to go out and find out what the oppositions play book is, but they are doing little to actually protect the Homeland. Sue Nancy Pelosi!
