Your Fault: Larger, More Damaging Hail To Happen More Often

We could have avoided this, but, you refuse to give more of your hard-earned money to the government to give to NGOs, er, warlords in 3rd world shitholes, er, governments in developing nations which has zero strings attached

Damaging, golf ball-size hail will fall more frequently because of climate change, Illinois researchers warn

During severe thunderstorms, rising air shoots icy pellets the size of Dippin’ Dots ice cream into the bitter cold of upper atmospheric layers. There, supercooled water freezes onto the small particles to form hail, which then falls when it gets too heavy for the storm’s upward draft.

As climate change warms average global temperatures, hailstones larger than pingpong or golf balls will become more frequent — likely worsening the weather hazard’s already billions of dollars in annual property damage across the country, according to a study published last year in the scientific journal npj Climate and Atmospheric Science.

“Climate change is obviously occurring,” said Victor Gensini, a meteorologist and professor of atmospheric science at Northern Illinois University who led the study. “The question, for scientists, is often: How does that manifest itself (in) these smaller-scale extreme weather perils?”

Yes, global warming is occurring. Mostly natural, just like previous Holocene warm periods.

Insurance companies have reported rising hail damage claims from homeowners due to severe storms. In 2024, roof repair and replacement costs totaled nearly $31 billion across the country, up almost 30% from 2022, according to an April report from Verisk, a risk assessment and data analytics firm. Hail and wind accounted for more than half of all residential claims.

Yes, because there are more homes and buildings, and the cost of the buildings has skyrocketed post-COVID.

Using a model with high-resolution mapping offered researchers new, more granular insights into the future of individual storms and their hazards compared with the data that traditional global models produce, which Gensini characterized as coarse and grainy.

So, they gathered a limited amount of real world data and then fed it into their handy dandy doomcomputers? Huh.

We had a hailstorm from hell this spring that led to roof replacements all through our neighborhood. The homes here are some 70 years old. Car damage too!!

  2. MrLiberty says:

So let’s be sure and build as many giant solar arrays in areas that will be getting these larger hail storms…like the one that was decimated in Nebraska, contaminating the soul beneath with heavy metals and other toxins…along with now delivering ZERO electricity.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

It’s a conundrum, isn’t it? Burning fossil fuels to generate electricity is causing greater damaging hail storms, which can damage solar panels intended to reduce damaging hail storms!!!

      • Jl says:

So, how can a model, making assumptions about the future, cause greater damaging hailstorms now? It’s a f*cking mystery..

I also wonder about the impact of other factors:
    1. 50% Biden inflation. Raises the price of everything. If the added price is under 50%, then it is actually decreasing, aside from the weight of democratic party policies.
    2. Biden immigration policy adding 10-15% to the US population, thereby raising the price of housing. Thereby raising the price of insuring housing.

Voting for democrats is much more harmful than climate change.

Biden immigration policy adding 10-15% to the US population, thereby raising the price of housing.

Did the population really increase by 34 to 51 million people between 2021 to 2025? And no one can detect it?

Even the right-wing, anti-immigrant, Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) estimates only 11.5 to 12.5 million legal and illegal immigrants settled in the United States during President Biden’s illegal reign (Trump Won)!!

A huge, new subdivision was built less than a mile from here in a wooded area formerly owned by a cemetery. The sign said new homes from $450,000! It’s doubtful that “illegals” were in a bidding war for those homes.

      Why are housing prices rising?

Limited Housing Supply: There’s simply not enough housing available to meet demand, especially in desirable areas, exacerbated by:

Years of underbuilding, particularly after the 2008 financial crisis.

Zoning laws and land-use regulations that restrict building density and the types of homes that can be constructed.

Population growth and urbanization: More people need places to live, especially in cities and growing areas.
Demographic shifts: A large cohort of millennials reaching prime homebuying age is adding pressure to the market.
Investor activity: Investors purchasing properties can reduce the number of homes available for individual buyers.
Soaring Material Prices: Tariffs and supply chain disruptions can raise the price of materials like lumber and steel.
Labor Shortages: A lack of skilled construction workers drives up labor costs.
Regulatory Costs: Building codes, environmental regulations, and permit fees can add to the overall cost of construction.
Interest Rates: Higher mortgage interest rates increase the monthly cost of owning a home, making it less affordable for buyers.
Inflation: General inflation across the economy drives up the cost of everything, including building materials.
