Trump Administration Erases the Government’s Power to Fight Climate Change

President Trump on Thursday announced he was erasing the scientific finding that climate change endangers human health and the environment, ending the federal government’s legal authority to control the pollution that is dangerously heating the planet.

The action is a key step in removing limits on carbon dioxide, methane and four other greenhouse gases that scientists say are supercharging heat waves, droughts, wildfires and other extreme weather.

Led by a president who refers to climate change as a “hoax,” the administration is essentially saying that the vast majority of scientists around the world are wrong and that a hotter planet is not the menace that decades of research shows it to be.

It’s a rejection of fact that had been accepted for decades by presidents of both parties, including Richard Nixon, whose top adviser warned of the dangers of climate change, and the first President George Bush, who signed an international climate treaty.

Bush the elder did not sign a climate treaty, he signed an ozone pact. Bill Clinton dropped the Kyoto protocol climate treaty because it couldn’t be passed by the Senate and he knew it would be damaging to the economy. And scientists can say all they want, but, they cannot prove it, and they cannot definitely say scientifically that this warm period is any different from others. Regardless, why does ever ‘climate change’ proposal enable government to grow stronger and more controlling?

It’s really “the power to regulate you”. Similar to the NY Times article I excerpted.

Technically he didn’t ‘drop’ it, but refused to submit it to the Senate for ratification, because he knew it would be defeated. The Senate had previously and unanimously passed a “sense of the Senate” resolution which stated that the Kyoto Accords should not be signed in their then-present form.

A couple of cosmetic changes were made, but Mr Clinton still knew it would never pass a ratification vote.

I have long said that the Senate should not wait for a President to submit a treaty for ratification, but simply take it up on their own initiative and vote on it.
