Surprise: Democrats Want To Rename Russell Senate Building

Remember, it was just a few statues of Confederates. The Woke/Cancel Culture renaming of stuff may have chilled for a bit, but, they will never give up on this

Democrat calls for renaming of Russell Senate Office Building

Cancel Culture Friendly FireRep. Al Green (D-Texas) is urging senators to rename the Russell Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill because of former Sen. Richard Russell’s history of opposing civil rights and avowing white supremacy.

“Throughout his career, Senator Russell engaged in constant lobbying on behalf of opponents to Civil Rights,” Green wrote in a letter to senators Thursday about the Georgia Democrat who died in 1971. “Perhaps most telling of his beliefs, during a lengthy filibuster against anti-lynching legislation, Senator Russell professed a willingness to uphold ‘white supremacy in the social, economic, and political life of our state.’”

“His public assertions, including ones that declared America ‘a white man’s country’ and his outspoken opposition to ‘political and social equality with the Negro,’ further underscored his divisive ideology,” Green added.

Russell, who was Georgia’s governor from 1931-33, held his Senate seat for nearly four decades until his death.

Green asked senators to revert to using the name “Old Senate Office Building” for the structure built in the early 1900s that 33 senators and five committees currently occupy. It was named in honor of Russell the year after he died.

So, um, will Green call for all the things named of Robert “Sheets” Byrd be renamed? A lot of these receive federal money.

Oh, and you know what is missing from Green’s letter? That Russell was, in fact, a Democrat. Surprise!

Just skip the middle men and name everything after MLK. It will be confusing at first, but we will adjust. And global warming is going to kill everyone soon so it’s not a decision we need to live with for very long.

  2. Elwood P. Dowd says:

The Russell Senate Office Building is a federal building, the buildings in West Virginia named after Senator Byrd are not.

Democratic Senators Russell and Byrd opposed both the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act. Russell voted nay and Byrd didn’t vote on the Civil Rights Act. Every Southern Democcrat voted nay (AL, AR, GA, FL, LA, MS, NC, VA, SC). Two Republicans voted nay – Strom Thurmond (SC) ad John Tower (TX). The Act was approved 77-19.

Reminds me when libs took the Indian off boxes of Land o Lakes butter. But they kept the land….

Is Jl arguing that Land o Lakes Inc is owned and operated by thousands of ‘libs’? If so, why do you care what they do? You should be pleased since removing the lovely maiden would hurt their sales to connies like yourself.

Land O’Lakes, Inc. is an American member-owned agricultural cooperative based in the Minneapolis-St. Paul suburb of Arden Hills, Minnesota, focusing on the dairy industry. The cooperative has 1,959 direct producer-members, 751 member-cooperatives, and about 9,000 employees who process and distribute products for about 300,000 agricultural producers, handling 12 billion pounds of milk annually. It is ranked third on the National Cooperative Bank Co-op 100 list of mutuals and cooperatives.

The Land O’Lakes indigenous woman, named Mia, holding the butter box was painted in 1928 by Brown & Bigelow illustrator Arthur C. Hanson. Red Lake Ojibwe artist Patrick DesJarlait updated Mia’s image in the 1950s. DesJarlait publicly believe in fostering an open dialogue between Native Americans and non-Natives. Thus, Mia’s clothes were changed to match specific Ojibwe styles, and the background became a specific location in the Ojibwe territory, the Red Lake in Minnesota.

In 2018, the image was changed to depict only the head of the Native woman and in 2020, the company announced that after 92 years, it was removing the image of the Native American woman.

      But why?
According to Land o Lakes Inc, the primary reason for the change was to emphasize Land O’Lakes’ roots as a farmer-owned cooperative. The new packaging aims to connect consumers with the farmers who produce the dairy products. The rebranding coincided with Land O’Lakes’ 100th anniversary, marking the company’s transition to a modern farmer-owned brand. The removal of the Native American woman has been widely interpreted as a response to criticisms that the original logo was racist and culturally insensitive. (Which it was).

Indian depiction taken off, land kept. Those are both true.

Libs kept the land, but Connies didn’t?
