The world could see hugely damaging sea-level rise of several metres or more over the coming centuries even if the ambitious target of limiting global warming to 1.5C is met, scientists have warned.
Nearly 200 countries have pledged to try to keep the planet’s warming to 1.5C, but the researchers warn that this should not be considered “safe” for coastal populations.
They drew their conclusion after reviewing the most recent studies of how the ice sheets are changing – and how they have changed in the past.
But the scientists stress that every fraction of a degree of warming that can be avoided would still greatly limit the risks.

First, records of the Earth’s distant past suggest significant melting – with sea levels several metres higher than present – during previous similarly warm periods, such as 125,000 years ago.
And the last time there was as much planet-warming carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as today – about 3 million years ago – sea levels were about 10-20m higher.

It’s likely the great plagues*, disasters and famines of the 2040s and 50s will kill billions of humans, solving much of the Earth’s problems! Those remaining will adapt.
Asians, Africans and Middle Easterners are outreproducing we civilized white folk of America and Europe, so you don’t want your progeny alive then anyway. We’ll adapt.

In other words, there “may” be a 5.4F rise in temp by 2100, and it “may” be catastrophic, though the catastrophic events that were supposed to be in evidence by now haven’t materialized. Strange…
It’s always “may” isn’t it? That’s science. As a scientist, you should know that.
The race doesn’t always go to the strong and swift, but that’s still the way to bet.
It’s thousands of bits of data/evidence pointing toward continued warming vs those who don’t want it to be true.
You may be skeptical of the value of the polio vaccine but you should get your children vaccinated.
You may be skeptical of the danger of high LDLs but you should reduce them by diet, exercise, even drugs if needed.
The mean global surface temperature has increased 1 degree C (1.8 F) in the last century, with the rate of increase doubling over the past 50 years!
At the current rate the mean global surface temperature would increase another 1 degree C in 50 years. We’ll be dead, but 10 million humans “may” be alive!
