    Kristi Noem Should Probably Know What Habeas Corpus Is
    But she doesn’t.’

    Appearing before a Senate hearing this morning, Noem (DHS Secretary Kristi) was asked by Senator Maggie Hassan, “What is habeas corpus?” Noem, whose hearing prep clearly did not anticipate any questions with Latin terms in them, replied, “Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country, and suspend their right to—”

    At this point, Hassan interjected to explain that habeas corpus is, in fact, “the legal principle that requires that the government provide a public reason for detaining and imprisoning people.” In other words, it’s the opposite of what Noem said. It’s not a right the president possesses, but a right the people possess against the president.

        The Pissant and his ilk believe a president should be able to abduct anyone in America and imprison them without any judicial due process.

        But only persons they don’t like. Right-wingers don’t like foreigners (especially shades of brown), Hispanics, Blacks, LGBTQs, liberals, progressives, Muslims, liberal Jews, etc.

        The libertarian Cato Institute claims the current administration has abducted dozens of legal refugees and imprisoned them in the El Salvador concentration camp.

        White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller has indicated that the Trump administration is actively considering the suspension of habeas corpus — the right of individuals to challenge their detention in court. The Constitution, in the sections that specify what Congress can and can’t do, provides that habeas corpus “shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.”

        Right-wing totalitarian states rely on the ability to disappear dissidents either by imprisonment or execution. And certainly, with no recourse for the arrestees. Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Franco’s Spain, Tonton Macoute, Iran’s SAVAK,

        Donius Corpulus would like to bypass habeas corpus and any judicial review of his atrocities as his way of repressing dissent. Judges who don’t bow to him are a problem which is why he is attacking judges and even calling for impeachment.

    We likely have too many lawyers in government. But the head of the Department of Homeland Security should have at least a general idea of what habeas corpus is.

    Kristi Noem, when asked, got it 180 degrees wrong. It was embarrassing.

    She needs to resign. Even though she looks good dressing up in riot gear, she is clearly unqualified for the job.

      Secretary Noem has been competently fulfilling her duties as Homeland Secretary unlike that lying Alejandro Mayorkas of the Biden administration for 4 years.

        Appearances are VERY important to those of little substance. Especially in the trump orbit. All the women try to look like Melania and the boys darken their make-up, get extra long ties, shoe lifts and blue suits.

        In addition, Noem has adpoted the “Mar a Lago Face” look – bronzer, hair extensions, heavy dark eye makeup (like JD Vance) – botox, lip and cheek fillers, facial smoothing and tightening

        Women in the public eye, undergo surgical upgrades, including “Trump Women” like Noem, Loomer, Melania, Guifoyle (ex), Blondi etc
