I’m not so sure why they are upset Mayor Pete barely built any while serving under Biden
US states sue over Trump freeze on funds for electric-vehicle charging stations
California and 15 other states sued the Trump administration on Wednesday, saying the federal government was illegally withholding billions of dollars awarded to states for building electric-vehicle charging stations.
The U.S. Transportation Department in February suspended the EV charging program and rescinded approval of state plans pending a review.
Senate Democrats said President Donald Trump was withholding more than $3 billion from the program, which was approved as part of former President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.
The lawsuit, joined by the District of Columbia, New York, New Jersey and Colorado among others, was filed in U.S. District Court in Washington State.
The states said the administration’s decision “will devastate the ability of states to build the charging infrastructure necessary for making EVs accessible to more consumers, combating climate change, reducing other harmful pollution, and supporting the states’ green economies.”
Well, why can’t they use their own taxpayer money to build them? Surely they can get The Rich in those states to pay, right? And the peasants won’t mind paying for the chargers as good little Liberals, right? All mostly Dem states, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Vermont, Washington, and the District of Columbia.
Gavin gave a press release
When America retreats, China wins.
President Trump’s illegal action withholding funds for electric vehicle infrastructure is yet another Trump gift to China – ceding American innovation and killing thousands of jobs.
Instead of hawking Teslas on the White House lawn, President Trump could actually help Elon – and the nation – by following the law and releasing this bipartisan funding.
You know what would be really funny, once a Democrat judge says the money must be spent? To spend all the money building EV charging stations in Republican states. The bullshit Inflation Reduction Act never said what states the money had to be spent in, you know.
And Gavin can spend California money building the chargers. It’s not like the Biden admin did such a great job building them. A grand total of 58 by the time he left office.

When the automobile was introduced, private entrepreneurs went into business to build gasoline stations. When oil was discovered, private entrepreneurs went into business to drill for and refine crude oil into useful products.
If private industry could do that, why does the government have to build charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles? If there’s an unmet demand for charging stations, businessmen will build them!
I’m not seeing the harm in this yet.
They may as well state that Trumps decision will devastate their ability to line their own pockets from federal government funds.
I wrote about this a year and a half ago, from a Philadelphia Inquirer story:
Note that this is not a federal loan program, but specifically “federal grants,” for businesses to build commercial plug-in electric car charging stations, on which they hope to turn a profit.
So, what happens? The Feds were giving grants for Wawa to make money, all to do something Wawa might have done themselves anyway! Wawas, other than those in dense urban areas — and Wawa is closing its Center City Philadelphia store due to the rampant crime by the heathen savages — normally have fuel pumps, and if Wawa saw a demand for the charging stations, they’d have installed them without taxpayer dollars.

Even if the program continues, there won’t be one built in my home county, because they’re being built along interstate highways, and there are none here.
One of our parishioners has a plug in electric vehicle, and a charging station in his garage. That’s fine, it’s his choice, and the only thing to which I object is that fact that he (probably) got a tax credit for buying the silly thing.
What would Pope Leo XIV do? WWPLD
Pope Leo undoubtedly supports measures to reduce
global warmingclimate change. But it’s a mistake to try to judge His Holiness based on American political terms, as so many are trying to do. Americans would see him as thoroughly liberal, perhaps even woke, based on the Church’s positions on social welfare and immigration, but as an evil, reich-wing conservative when it comes to other things.I’ve said it many times before, as has our esteemed host: if someone wants to buy a plug-in electric, that’s perfectly fine with me, as long as he’s using his own money. If someone wants to invest in a public charging station, that’s OK with me too, as long as he’s using his own money.
But the government trying to force us into those vehicles? Not just no, but Hell no!
We understand Mr Dana’s reluctance to purchase an EV, which is his right as an American!
But governmet subsidies and inducements are not fascism.
Relax. King Donald the First is shitcanning all environmental and safety regulations.
Look at the bright side – no more catalytic converters forced on you!! No more seat-belts or air bags. No anti-lock brakes. No more emissions standards. No more mufflers needed.

He didn’t says they were. Attempted strawman, 15 yard penalty…and here’s your sign.

Wouldn’t forcing Americans to buy EVs be fascism?
Whether encouraging the use of EVs is good policy is a different and indeed valid politcial discussion.
Now it’s your turn to look at the bright side. Not one single item on your list was mentioned by Trump. And he’s not even close but it should be a lot more environmental and safety regulations considering there’s about 19,000.
You commies just love regulations, laws, rules, EO’s etc. As long as they’re not made-up by Americans. You probably had a wonderful time during COVID. Even bartenders waitresses and cab drivers got to makeup rules and regulations. Were you walking around for two years sporting a regulation erection?
Its clear why they want their billion dollars to build one charging station. The other 990,000,000 goes to their state coffers to hide illegals to keep their census numbers inflated so they can keep gerrymandering districts.
The Democrats are a dead party. No one likes them anymore. Their only policy is they are not Trump.
They have no policies people like.
Since they don’t pay gasoline taxes the EV users could pay through their license plate renewals/registrations.
Say $500 per year?
Say $5000 for the year. After all they’re always bragging to us how rich and prosperous the left Wing states are so make em pay. It may even be fairer to charge them according to their income. At least that way they’ll pay their “fair share”.LOL

Didn’t Fat Donnie Mob Boss appoint more judges than anyone ever?
Anyway, the charging stations should be built where they’re needed.
Anyway, Porter Good of Raleigh continues his hatred of the prosperous blue states.

The charging stations should be built with private funds, in areas that private investors believe would be profitable. If the investors have guessed right, great, let them make money. If they’ve guessed wrong, too bad, so sad, must suck to be them, but not have any taxpayer dollars lost because the investors failed.
But with private investment, the cost of recharging will be substantially higher than it is today, just to recoup the installation investment. Potentially making operating a EV cost more for “fuel” than an IC car. Liberals might have to go back to driving Prius to be smug again.
Then there is still the unsolved elephant in the room: Power companies have long been telling us that there is simply not enough generation or distribution capacity to serve lots of additional charging stations. So add large local diesel generators to the cost of recharging stations.
Mr Dana, sowewhere near uber-liberal Lexington, said the charging stations should be built with private money. Just like the bridges, roads and highways that enabled gasoline sales and our automobile industry were built by private funds? Extreme libertarians believe government spending should be limited to defense only.
fElon Musk is the richest man on Earth BECAUSE of US tax monies. Massive subsidies and loans for ‘Tesler’, nearly $40 BILLION in contrats between ‘Tesler’, SpaceX, Starlink and the U.S. government. The subsidies went into his pockets. Now, fElon is in charge of regulating his industries!!
Did fElon and his little DOGIES find $2 TRILLION of waste, fraud and abuse? No. $1 TRILLION? No. $100 BILLION? Nope. He claims $160 BILLION but there is 0 evidence to support that. He did take 10 tons of personal information from Americans.
In other “news”, King Donald I is prepared to publicly accept a $400 MILLION bribe from QATAR. They are working a deal to transfer the luxurious 747-8 Jumbo jet to to King Donald I to use as the new Air Force One to be transfered to the Trump regime after he leaves office (if ever).
Will Congress consent? Doesn’t matter, King Donald the First is above and beyond the laws of man, country and god.
Funny-you mean the 40 billion in contracts awarded to Musk’s various companies because they were the lowest bidder? Strange
And many of those contracts were awarded prior to Trump being president. Even stranger….
Small details-your “40 billion” number includes contracts, loans, tax credits and subsidies over the last 20 years. Loans are paid back, contracts are a two-way street and thousands of companies get tax credits. The “subsidies” include $7500 off the price of an electric car. Now, who was pushing EVs lately?
