As LA students head back to school, LAUSD has message for immigrants: ‘We stand together’
The Los Angeles Unified School District is making visible what it’s so far said in words: that immigrant students and their families are welcome at Los Angeles schools.
When students start the new school year today, they’ll walk through entrances decked with 6-foot-tall banners featuring the Statue of Liberty, long the symbol of new opportunity for immigrants. The banners will read “We Are One L.A. Unified/Standing With Immigrant Families,†and Lady Liberty will be wearing a graduation cap, a nod to the district’s goal of having every student graduate.
Superintendent Michelle King previewed the We Are One effort for “immigrant students and others who feel marginalized,†with a brief mention in her annual State of the District speech last week.
“This campaign provides resources and toolkits as well as promotes messages of inclusion to make clear that at L.A. Unified, we stand together as one unified family,†she said.
Awwwww, that’s so cute. I’m betting Michelle King would be calling the police in a heartbeat if she came home a family of illegals were squatting in her backyard. It’s called “trespassing.”
The district has made its position clear regarding immigration, sometimes in direct opposition to federal policy. In May, school board members passed a resolution reiterating an earlier commitment that any LAUSD campus is a “safe place†for immigrants and their families. They added other pledges, too, such as allowing school employees to refuse cooperation with immigration agents and offering immigrants referrals to legal help.

Victor Francisco Michel-Lara, 32, of Cedar City, Utah was arrested Sunday and faces first-degree felony charges of rape of a child, according to his arrest report. He was also placed on an immigration detainer.
When you support illegal immigration, you support people like Michel-Lara. Liberals are making the case that if you do not immediately and completely denounce all neo-Nazi’s, KKK members, and skinheads vocally and vehemently, then you are part of the problem and enabling them, so, if you do not denounce all illegal aliens, you are part of the problem and enabling them.
That said, if California loves illegals, they should all go to California. Let the state deal with the fallout.
