Surprise: Leftists Want Single Payer Due To Insurer Mergers

Have you heard the news about all the health insurance company mergers? Isn’t there usually a freakout when Big Companies announce their intent to merge, complaints about a reduction in choice? Interestingly, when it comes to health insurance companies, and medical companies, merging, the news has been rather low key. I wonder why? The always unhinged, but a good peek into the Leftist mind, Salon tells us

Robert Reich: Single payer healthcare is the only way
The former secretary of labor on the dangers of health insurance mergers in the wake of SCOTUS’ Obamacare ruling

The Supreme Court’s recent blessing of Obamacare has precipitated a rush among the nation’s biggest health insurers to consolidate into two or three behemoths.

The result will be good for their shareholders and executives, but bad for the rest of us – who will pay through the nose for the health insurance we need.

We have another choice, but before I get to it let me give you some background.

Last week, Aetna announced it would spend $35 billion to buy rival Humana in a deal that will create the second-largest health insurer in the nation, with 33 million members.

OK, that goes on for a while, telling us all how super bad this is (and, really, Reich isn’t all that wrong. A loss of choice, domination by a few companies, etc), leading to

The problem isn’t Obamacare. The real problem is the current patchwork of state insurance regulations, insurance commissioners, and federal regulators can’t stop the tidal wave of mergers, or limit the economic and political power of the emerging giants.

Which is why, ultimately, American will have to make a choice.

If we continue in the direction we’re headed we’ll soon have a health insurance system dominated by two or three mammoth for-profit corporations capable of squeezing employees and consumers for all they’re worth – and handing over the profits to their shareholders and executives.

The alternative is a government-run single payer system – such as is in place in almost every other advanced economy – dedicated to lower premiums and better care.

Which do you prefer?

Remember, we were told by Ocare supporters that Obamacare would increase choice. Choice of doctors, choice of medical facilities, choice of insurers. Opponents talked about a loss of choice. Guess who was right? Again. But, rather than looking towards ways to increase choice, Leftists want to go down the road towards single payer, dominated and run by Government. Of course, this was always the plan.

“Remember, we were told by Ocare supporters…”
A LOT of things that just aren’t so.
And the “unintended consequences”, critically foretold by “the racists”, “misogynists”, and “Xphobes”, came to fruition in RECORD time.

As if it were the plan, and the scrip was written well in advance. About that “gub’mint contracts with inversion/tax evader corporations…..”

    1. Several key democrats were caught on record as saying obamacare is only the first step to single payer. Single payer was what the left wanted from the beginning but as Pelosi said we had to get something on the books so that we can then turn it into single payer.

From a progressive blog: The genius of Obamacare is not that it solved the problem in its entirety. The genius is that it made reverting to an immoral system untenable.

A.During an appearance on a Las Vegas PBS program in August, Reid said he sees a national single-payer health system as the natural next step for health care in America.

    B. Barney Frank admits proposed health care reform is a first step toward a single payer govt monopoly system…? Shock of all shock…the youtube video of him admitting it was taken down.

    C. Representative John Conyers (D-Mich.), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, opened the bag and shoved the cat out of it with a swift kick in the rear regarding whether or not Democrats view the current ObamaCare health care “reform” law as the first step to full-fledged, Government-run single-payer health care.

    D. Schakowsky tells her Health Care for America Now audience: “And next to me was a guy from the insurance company who argued against the public health insurance option, saying it wouldn’t let private insurance compete. That a public option will put the private insurance industry out of business and lead to single-payer. My single-payer friends, he was right. The man was right.”

    E. But flawed as Obamacare is, it has at least one great virtue: laying the groundwork for its own fixing.5 That’s not bad for such an “awful” piece of legislation. Senior Editor of the New Republic.

Essentially we have put in place a really bad health care bill which will require the government to step in and fix

They will create single payer health care. Right now the states are reeling under being forced to cover 30-40 percent more people and the promised funding by the us government runs out at the end of this year leaving the burden to the states…which will be screaming to the us government for help.

All part of the plan….write a bill destined to fail because the administration let the greedy insurance companies write their own bill. The entire premise of the ACA was this 60 million new subscribers…….

  4. […] Well, I preferred affordable health insurance, competition, and a large number of doctors and providers to choose from. Obamacare has pretty much decimated all of that with all of its mandates, as predicted. […]

I know you’re just as shocked as I was. That is to say, not at all.

Imagine one pissed off conservative President abusing his power to high heaven while ignoring the screaming of the leftists. That’s going to be hilarious.

    john,
I is refreshing to see your post as it reminds us of the basic stupidity of the average liberal. If you don’t know something exist, as in this case death panels, then you assume that it really is not there. Yet as someone with authority, I can assure you that the death panels are up and operating. Why don’t you try to get some knowledge or not open your mouth until you have the facts. You haven’t even read the law!! In fact, very few people have, even those that passed it.

  8. Liam Thomas says:

I could make an uber long post replete with facts figures and extrapolations but no one would read it and it would be pretty boring.

Let me summarize…..Health Care in America is a 5 trillion dollar per year industry. The USA wants to take that over and pay for that themselves…..For the sake of argument they will cut that in half. Hosptials will close right and left….the USA now will take over the hospitals and unionize doctors, nurses and any other health care provider.

So now you have the USA paying for all health care expenses in the USA having taken in around 12,219,330 million more health care workers.

So single payer will force upon America.

    1. The government will take over the costs.
    2. The government will take over bankrupt hospitals until they are all gone..ADDING BACK HUGE COSTS
    3. The government will continue to have to provide for Veterans.
    4. The government will have to take over 12million plus new employees.

Not affordable….2.5 trillion in new costs divided by Americans who will actually have to pay because we all know anyone under 50k will pay nothing…….is roughly 15-20k per American.

This will be forced upon employers….forcing more and more smaller businesses into insolvency and bankruptcy or simply out of business…….putting even more burden on the companies that can afford it……

those companies will raise prices exorbitantly…..a disaster in the making and the ultimate destuction of America as we know it.
