Unfortunately, it is to dismiss the concept of the day. Via Hot Air, Defeatocratic Presidential candidate John Edwards posts 10 Things You Can Do Over Memorial Day Weekend To Support The Troops And End The War.
Get local, get active, and get outdoors. Walk the streets of your neighborhood. Get everyone you know to sign a petition to your local government body—for instance, your town or city council or neighborhood association—to pass a resolution requesting that Congress use its funding authority to support our troops and end the war. Bring the petition to the next meeting.
Get vocal. Buy a bunch of poster-board and markers. At a picnic or with family and friends, make signs that say “SUPPORT THE TROOPS – END THE WAR.” Bring them to your local Memorial Day parade. Then take a digital photo of yourself and your family or friends holding up the poster and tell us about it. We’ll include it in a “Democracy Photo Album” on our site.
Sadly, this is under the banner of "Reclaiming Patriotism."
As Bryan puts it "Memorial Day used to be about remembering the sacrifices of wars past. Now it’s about politicizing parades." Not with Democrats. Everything is political for them. They have no moral compass, and their idea of patriotism is by attempting to force defeat and surrender. From the About page
And as patriots, we call on our government to support our troops in the most important way it can – by ending this war and bringing them home.
If Americans across the country rise up and demand an end to this war, Congress will find the courage to take decisive action, and the president will find he has no choice.
Yup, patriotism is about defeat in Edwards’ world.
Wisely, any plans that people submit are not accessible. I signed up to check and see.
What did Memorial Day used to be about?
Memorial Day used to be a solemn day of mourning, a sacred day of remembrance to honor those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. Businesses closed for the day. Towns held parades honoring the fallen, the parade routes often times ending at a local cemetery, where Memorial Day speeches were given and prayers offered up. People took the time that day to clean and decorate with flowers and flags the graves of those the fell in service to their country.
And, before anyone says anything about it being some sort of right wing conspiracy to bash Edwards, the website is an official part of the Edwards campain.
