The NY Times thinks this is a big deal
The World Met to Talk Climate Change. The U.S. Wasn’t Invited.
For the past week, diplomats from nearly 60 countries gathered in Colombia to discuss one of the most urgent and confounding questions of our day: how to move beyond fossil fuels.
60 countries is the world? Did they all take sailing ships or fossil fueled private jets?
The issue is urgent because emissions from the burning of coal, oil and gas are rapidly warming the planet, leading to increasingly dire consequences.
By rapidly, they mean 1.7F since 1850
And it’s confounding because fossil fuels are the backbone of the modern economy, and alternatives don’t yet exist at nearly the scale needed. (Another factor: The U.S. was not invited, given the Trump administration’s refusal to engage with international climate talks, and several other big countries are not attending.)
Wait, how’d that get in there? Not the part about the US not being invited, because the Trump admin wouldn’t have bothered, but, the part about
And it’s confounding because fossil fuels are the backbone of the modern economy, and alternatives don’t yet exist at nearly the scale needed.
Huh. I wouldn’t be surprised if the NY Times edited this article and removes that.

For the past week, diplomats from nearly 60 countries gathered in Colombia to discuss one of the most urgent and confounding questions of our day: how to move beyond fossil fuels.

So Mr Teach admits he was ignorant that the modern economy was dependent on fossil fuels.
Yet he denies that the resulting 50% increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide significantly contributed to the 2.3F warming observed so far. The rate of warming is increasing despite the MAGAt deniers. We told you so.
And what’s happening with the alleged increasing rate compared to the “normal rate?”
No need to ask Rimjob what “normal” is.
He doesn’t know.
Using the GISTEMPv4 database, the rate of warming over the past 50 years (0.192 ±0.030 °C/decade) is greater than over the previous 75 years (0.055 ±0.017 °C/decade).
Using the HadCRUT4krigv2 database, the rate of warming over the past 50 years (0.192 ±0.029 °C/decade) is greater than over the previous 75 years (0.058 ±0.017 °C/decade).
The larger number over the past 50 yrs compared to the previous 75 yrs suggests the rate of warming is increasing. “Rate” means the change of a parameter (e.g., temperature) over a period of time.
We apologize for the confusion.
Except the question was what’s that alleged rate doing that it wouldn’t have been doing at the “normal rate”. If that can’t be answered, which so far it can’t, then the rate would be irrelevant. In other words, the effects of the rate, not the rate itself.
Earth has gone through several Ice Ages. The climate is Never Not Changing. That we’ve been lucky enough to be here while Earth is in a hospitable climate cycle is a good thing. The fear mongering began decades ago. People need to do some digging and Study the history of our climate. Spend four or five hours a week reading about research projects and you’ll get out from under that cloud of fear.
For starters, whose SUV caused the end of the last ice age? It’s not technically over, but it certainly melted off to a great extent. Follow Randall Carlson for an eye opening education. Look up his videos/lectures on the Scablands.

We’ve been lied to.

Learn about the Medieval Warm period.
We’ve been lied to.
Technically Earth is currently in an ice age, the Late Cenozoic, which began roughly 34 million years ago and was intensified by the Quaternary glaciation 2.58 million years ago. We are currently in a warm interglacial period called the Holocene, which began about 12,000 years ago, characterized by retreating glaciers and, until recently, a stable climate.
The mass of human “civilization” has occurred during the Holocene – agriculture, cities, governments, laws etc.
The Medieval Warm Period was mostly regional affecting parts of North America and Northern Europe.
At most 1/6 of the planet. Most scientists agree it was due to changes in the Gulf Stream. In general almost all of the places affected by your Medieval Warm Period ate warmer now than in the MWP.
And todays rate of warming exceeds the Raye in the MWP
