Excitable Maxine Waters Coming After Crypto, Prediction Markets, Private Equity

What could possibly go wrong? And this is totally about affordability, right?

Launching chair bid, Waters targets crypto, prediction markets, private equity

Rep. Maxine Waters on Friday launched her bid to again lead Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee, vowing to “pursue a bold agenda focused on affordability, accountability, and accessibility,” according to a letter to colleagues obtained by POLITICO. (snip)

Waters laid out an array of details about her potential agenda as chair, writing that she wants to pursue housing efforts “expanding affordable housing programs and reforming mortgage finance,” find a way to “permanently and independently” fund the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and “help our community banks by reforming deposit insurance.” She also said in the letter she wants to “pass legislation to stop Trump’s crypto corruption, establish tough but fair rules of the road for legitimate crypto ventures, and create safeguards to protect consumers, small businesses, community banks and the financial system.”

The five-page letter, which represents the most detailed preview of her agenda yet, vows to “rein in bad private equity actors and bring this unaccountable industry out of the shadows and subject it to oversight and regulation” and “eliminate the junk fees that are nickel-and-diming our constituents, such as overdraft fees, late fees, convenience fees, and over-the-limit fees.”

Affordable housing tends to raise prices, especially when government is involved. Crypto? As Reagan said “if it moves Democrats want to regulated it.” Mess with deposit insurance? Moron. Private equity? I think we all kind of hate it and what it does to businesses, but, you know this will seriously backfire on the economy and private investment. All those fees? Yeah, we hate those too, but, we all know Democrats will turn the amp up to 23 and there will be serious unintended consequences.

She also pledged to “pass legislation to ‘AI proof’ our financial system and economy” and “rein in predatory lending and predatory platforms, including prediction markets, so that our constituents keep more of their hard-earned dollars in their pockets.”

Prediction markets are simply gambling on things other than sports and racing. If people want to waste their money that’s on them, not the government’s business. Especially since government legalized all this gambling. Most predatory lending has being reigned in. AI proof? Unintended consequences.

Waters touted her record in the letter, writing that she knows “how to strike deals, even with Trump officials.”

“At a time when Americans are demanding that Congress deliver results, the Financial Services Committee needs experienced leadership that will address the crushing affordability crisis, expand access to housing, foster a dynamic and fair financial system, and hold the corrupt Trump Administration accountable. I am ready and fired up to lead that charge,” she wrote.

Strike deals with Trump but also screw him and his people.

This might be 7 years old, but, her district is still like this. Maybe she should be concerned about them.

Reagan was the first POTUS to warn us about global warming/climate change caused by burning massive amounts of fossil fuels. He was correct. Since he earned us the Earth’s temps have gone up 1.3 F
And the taste of change is still increasing
    That old dy/dx
That 40 year increase is equal to 10% of the total increase over 10000 years that ended the last ice age

    Not “miniscule”

    • Jl says:

So Johnny, what is that increasing rate allegedly doing to the climate that wouldn’t have been done at a “normal rata”? You mean you don’t know? And as said before, the “rate” has been much higher in the past (DO events)

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

So Jill, are you proposing that the rapid warming this past century is a Dansgaard-Oeschger event?

The alleged warming the past century is allegedly causing increased melting of polar ice (sea and ice sheets), sea level rise, shifting distributions of species, heat records, longer & more intense heat waves… but you know all this. Your denialism is showing.

Crypto, Prediction Markets, Private Equity… all fraudulent gambits to take your money.

The 88 yr old Waters wants to “expand affordable housing programs and reform mortgage finance,” find a way to “permanently and independently” fund the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and “help our community banks by reforming deposit insurance”

    and

“rein in bad private equity actors and bring this unaccountable industry out of the shadows and subject it to oversight and regulation” and “eliminate the junk fees that are nickel-and-diming our constituents, such as overdraft fees, late fees, convenience fees, and over-the-limit fees.”

    and

“rein in predatory lending and predatory platforms, including prediction markets, so that our constituents keep more of their hard-earned dollars in their pockets.”

The 88 yr old Ms Waters realizes that policies created since 1980 actively transfer money “uphill” to the wealthy. This has reached levels beyond to tolerability of the working class, hence this week’s midterms.

Trumpinc and his donors have made billions of $$$ while “the people” are treading water.

President Jimmy Carter was forced to give up his $2 million peanut farm. Sucker!!!

What would an oligarch like Waters live in a shit hole?
