New York’s Over-Reliance On “Green” Energy Could Cause Blackouts

One day things like wind and solar might be viable, but, today is not that day (via Green Jihad)

Extended heat wave could cripple New York’s grid this summer: NYISO

Electric reliability margins this summer in New York will be “the lowest … in recent history,” with extreme weather and an aging generation mix contributing to a risk of blackouts, the New York Independent System Operator said Friday.

“Coordination with generation owners, utility companies, neighboring grid operators, and government officials will be essential as we work to maintain grid reliability this summer,” Aaron Markham, ISO vice president of operations, said in a statement.

The ISO’s annual summer reliability assessment estimates 34,615 MW of power resources will be available this year to meet forecasted peak demand of 31,578 MW. The ISO said it is required to maintain 2,620 MW from the available resources in reserve, leaving a reliability margin of 417 MW under baseline summer conditions.

New York’s reliability margin has declined almost 80% since 2022, when it was 1,918 MW.

Well, when you get rid of reliable coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy generation you are left with unreliable, undependable, and more expensive energy, which cannot meet the demands of more and more consumers/businesses, even with all those people moving out of NY. You still have more and more devices that use more and more electricity. Oh, and all those extra EVs.

Have fun, New Yorkers: you voted for this. And don’t leave. You voted for this.

This is ridiculous! It’s 38.8º F in the Bluegrass State right now. I want my global warming back!

The posts here by Dana over the last 10 years seem yo show premature aging. We may next here he sold his farm and moved to warmer FL
It is a wonderful Spring day here in NYC 47 F. With high mid 60s

Based on income people KY residents pay electric bills higher than most other States. Also lots of disconnections because of non payment.

Well, it might be true that, “Based on income people KY residents pay electric bills higher than most other States,” because Kentuckians do have generally lower incomes. That doesn’t mean electricity rates are higher here.

We also have lower taxes, due to the nature of the federal ‘progressive’ tax structure, but we actually live better than a lot of places with higher median incomes.

Hardly ‘premature’ aging; I’m 73 years and nine days old!

Not planning on selling the farm, because I’m still physically fit enough to take care of the place.

Johnny-remember that figure you cited for renewables includes hydro-power and wood burning.

The bad news is the avg work week hours worked again falling to lowest since Trump took office
So so fewer layoffs but also cuts in hours.

In march in USA for the first time in 1 calendar month renewables produced more energy than natural gas.

Typical wind power kWh are sold at about 8.5 cents with a 20yr contract price

What I find ironic is that nuclear isn’t considered green energy. It generates no carbon emissions, can operate 24/7/365 regardless of time of day or the weather conditions. Some may argue that the carbon emissions generated during construction disproves that. But those same people totally ignore that solar and wind also generate carbon dioxide during manufacture and construction. The nuclear plants generate a lot more power than solar or wind can and are far more area efficient, meaning the amount of power generated versus the amount of land the taken up by the power generation equipment.

I consider it green but super expensive and it takes minimum 10 years to design permit and build a nuke. 3 years for offshore wind

The fact that the climate cult is not dancing in the streets over 20 percent cut in oil around the world is a sure sign that AGW is most definitely a climate scam. The Hormuz standoff is a miscalculation by Trump on the worlds ability and desire to serve their own best interests.

Everyone expected the Iranian people to rise up and fight a civil war with a vastly degraded IRGC as the USA and Israel has sent millions of small arms and ammunition to the people of Iran.

I think the fact that it was let slip that all of the allies in the region were getting dangerously low in interceptors as Israel was getting low in ammunition in general is a telling sign of just how powerful the world had allowed the Iranian bullies to become. At any moment Iran for the last 10 years was fully capable of just closing down Hormuz and blackmailing the world and with a nuke there would be nothing the world could do but pay the toll.

The only thing saving Trump from Impeachment is the fact that millions of democrats are defecting to the right and with the new gerrymandering and the 2030 census it is entirely expected there will be at least 24-38 new solid red seats available to the GOP. Putting their safe red seats at 223-247 for the 2030 election and 223 for the upcoming midterms. As I speak, all across red states they have already suspended some elections until they can redistrict after the Supreme Court announced its ruling on the left’s decidedly racist gerrymandering that kept them in power for 5 decades.

God help us if the uneducated voter decides that they would prefer California, NYC and London style government in the United States. There is no free lunch. A famous 6th grader was told many decades ago. It remains true today. You are watching why the USA does not have free healthcare in action as a multi trillion dollar military dismantles the fourth strongest military in the world in just under 24 hours and totally degrades it in 40 days.

The only real loser in this war is AGW as its champions around the world cry for their oil finally blowing the lid totally off the Climate change scam.

Teach any state “could’ have an increase in blackouts

In fact your has more blackouts than NY
    And
Even though our kWh rate is twice that of NC
Our avg monthly electric bill is only about $10 prr month note easily offset by our $20000 higher avg income
