Sixty years of data from more than 80,000 wild great tits in the UK reveal a troubling pattern: cold snaps and heavy rain can stunt nestling growth and slash their odds of surviving to adulthood. The culprit, researchers say, is a changing climate that is making extreme weather events both more frequent and more severe.
The findings, published March 11 in Global Change Biology by scientists at the University of Oxford, draw on records from Wytham Woods in Oxfordshire, one of the longest-running wildlife monitoring programs in the world. By pairing individual bird data with detailed daily weather records across six decades, the team was able to isolate precisely when extreme weather hits hardest during a nestling’s brief but critical development window.
The research pinpoints two weather extremes as especially damaging, and their timing matters enormously. According to the study, extreme cold during the first week after hatching is particularly detrimental, a period when chicks have no feathers and cannot yet regulate their own body temperature. Rather than converting food into growth, hatchlings in a cold snap must burn energy simply staying warm, often falling behind in body mass in ways that can never be fully recovered.
This is a perfect example as to why they changed it from anthropogenic global warming to anthropogenic climate change: it allows what morphed into a doomsday cult to blame everything on Mankind. Hot? Your fault. Cold? Also your fault. And we can fix this with a tax and removing your freedom, liberty, and life choices.

We know why the Earth is warming, the cause of climate change.
When we burn fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas), hydrocarbons combine with oxygen yielding heat, H20 and CO2!! CO2 is a greenhouse gas. It absorbs infrared radiation (IR or heat!), vibrates and releases the heat! Over the past century and a half atmospheric CO2 has increased 50% (from 280 ppm to 420 ppm) and continues to increase. And it stays around a long, long time!
But relax. These facts are falling on deaf (and selfish) ears (or “ear” in King Don’s case). Nothing is being done. Let the next generations worry about. King Coal, Omnipotent Oil and Glorious Gas is our future. Our grandchildren will use AI to solve everything, thanks to Zuck and Elon!!

The highly unnatural increase in CO2 brings the current level to over 425 ppm, the highest in the past 10 million years. The human species is under 1 million years old. Human civilization is only some 12,000 years old (the Holocene).

The climate luddites chuckle that ‘global warming’ can result in local ‘extreme cold’!! Try to understand how large the Earth is! Our poles, Arctic and Antarctic stay pretty durn cold, don’t they?
-40 F is pretty durn cold, but so is -20 F! The 2.0 to 2.3 F increase in the mean surface temperature is a worldwide average! Mean means average! It is not evenly distributed.
