Trump revokes landmark climate change rule; Newsom vows to sue
The Trump administration on Thursday revoked a scientific finding that long has been the central basis for U.S. action to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change, the most aggressive move by the president to roll back climate regulations.
The rule finalized by the Environmental Protection Agency rescinds a 2009 government declaration, issued by the Obama administration, known as the endangerment finding that determined carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare. (snip)
Legal challenges are certain for the action, which repeals all greenhouse gas emissions standards for cars and trucks, and could unleash a broader undoing of climate regulations on power plants, factories, and oil and gas facilities, experts say.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom blasted the move Thursday, and vowed to challenge it in court.
“Donald Trump may put corporate greed ahead of communities and families,” Newsom said. “But California will not stand by. We will sue to challenge this illegal action, and we will continue fighting climate pollution here in our state. We will continue to lead because the lives and livelihoods of our people depend on it.”
How, exactly, was repealing a rule illegal? Nowhere within federal law is CO2 or other greenhouse gases deemed pollutants. It was simply a political decision based on faulty and cult based “science”. Any rule that’s not required by duly passed law can be ended.
Environmental groups described Trump’s decision Thursday as the single biggest attack in U.S. history against federal authority to address climate change.
No matter what else they say, no matter what mushy muddle, that is the whole point: empowering the federal government to run everyone’s lives. All while the Elites excuse themselves. Remember this?
