Massachusetts Bill Would Limit How Much Citizens Can Drive Their Vehicles

Will this also apply to elected lawmakers? Will their mileage be limited and forced to take public transportation?

Massachusetts bill would cut down on people’s driving miles

A bill that aims to cut down on the number of miles people drive in their personal cars across Massachusetts is one step closer to reaching Governor Healey’s desk.

The Freedom to Move Act, S.2246, moves to the Senate Ways and Means Committee after being passed by the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy in a 4–1 vote.

You know it’s shady and green authoritarian with that name

It focuses on aligning Massachusetts with its climate mandates.

The bill associates the transportation sector as the source of the greatest share of carbon emissions in the state.

“It’s not about individuals and how much you’re driving. It’s about the investment the state makes in our infrastructure,” said Kevin Shen, analyst with the Union of Concerned Scientists.

The conversation looking into whether the state should decide how much people drive is bringing both praise and criticism.

How about limiting state employees and their use of fossil fuels?

The bill would require MassDOT to set goals for reducing the number of statewide driving miles.

It does not list any specific figures on how many driving miles per person would be reduced.

Fortunately, there will be unelected Warmists to decide the details

(Western Mass News) It would also create a 15-member council to find ways to make public transportation more accessible for residents. and possibly even incentivize the use of public transportation.

This wouldn’t work so well out in Western Mass, which is a lot more rural. But, it’s always cool when cultists tell Everyone Else to do, but, surely won’t do themselves.

It’s only fair that the state put limits on state owned vehicles. Start with law enforcement, road maintenance and snowplows. Fire trucks and ambulances should be limited as well. Of course big rigs need to limit milage as well. Not sure how to get food to the stores but what the heck it’s for the environment. And no Amazon deliveries.

Another example of government out of control.

Vehicles are prohibited on San Marco Island in Venice, and food arrives daily by small boats. The boats are then unloaded, by hand, and placed into waiting carts. The carts, small enough that a man can push or pull them, are then taken to the local markets, where they are once again unloaded by hand.

Sure, this adds a lot more handling of the products, with the added expense passed on to customers, but, not to worry, its worth it so the tourists don’t see the lorries in the streets!

The bill as reported in the local news would NOT limit the amount of miles you chose to drive. It would reduce the amount of miles you were forced to drive by offering alternatives and improvements to the local bus routes already available in rural/western MA
Western MA is serviced already by taxpayers subsidized local train and bus service if Teach had bothered to look he would have seen that. Car ownership and use is becoming extremely expensive, MA will attempt to reduce that by offering alternatives to its rural population. It will not penalize people for choosing to drive as many miles as they choose. It will allow some people to have options even in rural areas to not own a car which now averages 5000 dollars per year to own and operate. Many especially senior citizens can not afford that.

MA is so so socialist ! Berkshire Valley bus which services the most western rural areas of the state offers free gates gir seniors and disabled encouraging the. But not forcing them, to drive fewer miles.

The alternatives will have costs. If I like driving my truck to town why should I also have to pay for other peoples options. Busses run near empty where I live. A round trip to town is 40 miles and it may have one or two people on board. Lot’s of carbon being expelled by such a large vehicle.

Another example of government putting it nose in others peoples business, making thigs worse under the guise of “we’re here to help”. Friends and families will get jobs from all this nonsense.

  5. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Mr Teach should leave Massachusetts for a more MAGA-aware state… Alaska or Montana or Alabama or Arkansas.

  6. Wylie1 says:

If they have time to worry about nonsense like this, they have too much time on their hands. Cut the legislature’s time in session to half of what it is today.

  8. Professor Hale says:

So, the bill just creates a handful of executive government jobs for connected democrats to fill.

Coming to YOUR state…and much sooner than you think.
