Unhinged Democrats Want To Pretty Much End Government’s Immigration Enforcement

They think this is about “dignity”, and, this isn’t something supported by a few of the moonbat wackos

Dem-backed ‘dignity’ bill could strip ICE of detention powers, erase immigration enforcement, critics warn

After more than 120 House Democrats signed onto a bill from a top progressive lawmaker to seek what they define as “dignity” for federal immigration detainees, critics sounded the alarm that the legislation could forever transform how illegal immigrants are treated in the U.S.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., is spearheading the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act, along with fellow Evergreen State lawmaker Rep. Adam Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee. They say it would curb the “shocking surge” of allegedly wrongful detentions and inappropriate conditions, particularly at jails run by private companies under government contract.

Critics vociferously objected to that suggestion in exclusive comments to Fox News Digital Friday.

“This legislation isn’t aimed at improving conditions for migrants navigating the U.S. immigration system. It would instead end the federal government’s ability to enforce immigration law entirely,” members of the Day 1 Alliance, the main trade association representing longtime federal and state contractors in the criminal justice and immigration spaces, warned.

The Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act would lead to the repeal of mandatory detention for those captured by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to a summary posted by Jayapal, and create a presumption of release, imposing a higher burden of proof to detain primary caregivers and “vulnerable populations.”

These same illegals would then just disappear into the U.S. again once released, but, really, the idea here is simply to make it so difficult for the government to detain and deport illegals that it wouldn’t be worth trying. Much like how cops wouldn’t even show up to take shoplifting statements in California and Washington due to their newly passed laws. Why would the cops bother when the perps would be immediately released and never convicted?

In apparent response to Democrats being iced out of ICE centers earlier in 2025, including a case in Newark, New Jersey, where Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., was accused of accosting officers, it also would mandate that the Department of Homeland Security admit members of Congress to detention facilities for unannounced inspections.

Because it’s apparently difficult for the dilettantes in Congress to have a staffer schedule an inspection.

She showed up unannounced demanding information, and interfered. She looks pretty good for someone who just got pepper sprayed, right?

Ooops.

As Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary DHS, notes:

She was in the vicinity of someone who *was* pepper sprayed as they were obstructing and assaulting law enforcement. In fact, 2 law enforcement officers were seriously injured by this mob that
@Rep_Grijalva joined.

Presenting one’s self as a “Member of Congress” doesn’t give you the right to obstruct law enforcement.

She should be arrested for interfering.

How well are the current actions by DHS working to make America safer? Not much, right?

Reasonable members of Congress (ever GOPhers, e.g., Sen Lankford) have presented plans to help resolve issues with our immigration “system”, but Big Donnie deep sixes all but the most violent of actions. Even St Reagan knew better.

Trump has deported about 600,000… at that rate it will take over 20 years to deport all the “illegals”, most of whom are not the “worst of the worst”. The trump plan is not sustainable and is just performative theater to keep his 34% “hard” for him.

Why not go after the “worst of the worst” and devise a reasonable system for calming the waters by devising a path to legal status for the majority of “illegals”?

Big Donnie is losing his MAGA moxie (and his mind), so Congress can you act? The GOP will lose the House in a year anyway.

Translation: when the Democrats tried to change our immigration laws, they failed.

Fortunately, while the United States has deported ‘only’ 600,000 illegals, well over 2,000,000 of them have ‘voluntarily’ returned home on their own. At that rate, 11,335,000 illegals would be gone over four years.

Why not go after the “worst of the worst” and devise a reasonable system for calming the waters by devising a path to legal status for the majority of “illegals”?

We already know that the Democrats objected to deporting even the “worst of the worst,” but we’ve also seen what “St Reagan” did: an amnesty program for those already here, but enforcement programs against new illegals didn’t keep new illegals from arriving. President Reagan may have tried to be a nice guy, and not seen a good way to expel the illegals already here, but it was seen at the time as a probable failure: the illegals wouldn’t stop coming.

President Trump is exactly what we need: not a nice guy, but an absolute [insert slang term for the anus here], one willing to be harsh, one willing to be cruel, to get a job that needs to get done, done.

All law enforcement needs to be done by harsh and cruel people. You have to be harsh and cruel and an [insert slang term for the anus here] to arrest people, to put them on trial and in jail. Mr Dowd personally saw how his own criminal-loving and police-hating prosecutor Kim Gardner — did he vote for her? — failed, and crime skyrocketed in St Louis County, because you can’t treat criminal leniently and expect to decrease crime and keep the public safe. We should allow some leniency for first-time offenders, hoping they learn their lesson, but all second-and-beyond offenses should result in the maximum sentences allowable under the law, because those criminals have proven that second chances were wasted on them.

According to the trump administration and the commenter: “well over 2,000,000 of them have ‘voluntarily’ returned home on their own”.

But we know the trump administration cannot be trusted to tell the truth.

The white christian nationalist Dana makes a number of other misstatements. ONLY St Louis residents can vote for the Circuit Attorney of St. Louis City (prosecuting attorney). A U.S. federal attorney friend, whose office IS in downtown St Louis, advised that Gardner was widely viewed as an ineffective prosecutor, even “a joke”.

Gardner was not the prosecutor of St Louis County, so her incompetence did not cause the crime rate of the County to “skyrocket”, and there is no evidence it did “skyrocket” (which “coicidentally” is Big Donnie’s favorite word to describe crime!).

The St Louis County prosecuting attorney is Melissa Price Smith (NOT black like Ms Gardner), appointed by then Governor Mike Parsons, a conservative Republican. I’ve never voted for Gardner, Parsons or Ms Smith, although Smith seems effective and reasonable and would consider her favorably in the next election.l

Violent crime peaked in the U.S. in 1991, under Reagan, whom I didn’t vote for. It has dropped steadily since, being halved since 1991!! It reached the modern low under Obama, whom I did vote for, and has stayed around that low since.

NB – St Louis City and St Louis County are separate entities. Most cities in America are contained in and are part of a “county”. Not so St Louis City since 1876. The county seat of St Louis County is posh Clayton, MO. Virginia has 38 cities that are not part of a county government!!

Interestingly, “violent crime dropped significantly after 1991 due to a mix of factors, including more effective policing, economic improvements, changing demographics (fewer young males), decreased crack cocaine use, increased incarceration (removing offenders from streets), better technology (DNA, cell phones), and potential environmental factors like the phasing out of lead, though no single cause explains the entire decline, say experts.”

“No one is above the law,” we were told, but a substantial number of Democrats want to end enforcement of our immigration laws, laws they tried to change when Joe Biden was President, but couldn’t.

“Unhinged” is the perfect word to describe the Democrats.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Our ruling class, like Big Donnie and his pardonees, ARE above the law, aren’t they? America is being rigged to benefit the plutocratic ruling class. They ARE above the law. In fact, they ARE the law!!

Steal a pizza, go to jail. Pick tomatoes in the sun, get deported to El Salvador!! Steal $1.6 BILLION from investors and get a Big Donnie commutation!! Steal MILLIONS from students for a fake university? Pay a fine! Commit multiple felonies, move into our White House!!

Commenter typed: “Democrats want to end enforcement of our immigration laws, laws they tried to change when Joe Biden was President”

Actually, it was conservative U.S. Senator James Lankford (R-OK) who submitted a bipartisan bill in 2024 that candidate trump opposed, so it failed to pass. Why would Big Donnie oppose the bill? Because it would hurt his campaign which was based on his white nationalist approach to immigration. Plus, the Repubicuns knew Donnie would use the old ultraviolence against the immigrants, but only if he got elected!! It’s what he ran on.

        Ya see, “unhinged”.
And Jabba the Rimjob is getting worse.

Mr Trump was convicted, as you have trumpeted loudly, of 34 felonies, felonies never previously prosecuted, so he wasn’t above the law, was he?

The January 6 Capitol kerfufflers? They, too were convicted, and though eventually pardoned, most had already served their sentences, so it’s not as though they were above the law. Just prior to that, President Biden’s staffers commuted, via autopen, the capital sentences of 47 actual murderers, though at least they were left locked up.

“(T)he old ultraviolence”? Heaven forfend! Apparently our good friend from Missouri thinks that ICE was using flamethrowers and M-16s on rock-and-roll to blow them to smithereens, to send their blood and brains and body parts flying, rather than arresting and taking them into custody as gently as their level of resistance allowed.

It’s certainly true that Mr Trump ran on deporting the illegals, and 77,302,580 of us agreed with him. Senator Lankford did propose a bill for limited amnesty for some of the illegals, but, fortunately, such never passed the Congress.

Mr Trump’s “white nationalist approach to immigration”? However you define it, there were apparently 77,302,580 Americans who agreed with Mr Trump’s approach. Some of us have been surprised by how vigorously he has approached immigration enforcement, but it has been a pleasant surprise; many of us expected his immigration enforcement to be much more like it was during his first term, and are happy to see it being done more aggressively this time. This is what we wanted all along!

You claim that it is a “white nationalist approach to immigration,” but conservatives have welcomes legal immigrants to the United States, many of whom are Asian and many rather swarthy Caucasians from places like India, because these are people who have been fully assimilating into Western civilization. We are fortunate in that many of the illegals we have had are Christian, primarily Catholic, so are not as far from Western civilization as the problems our European brethren have experienced, but illegal is still illegal.

Riley Gaines Barker has been documenting the immigration problems her British husband has had, in his attempts to obtain a green card, legally. The Biden Administration refused to issue him one because he declined to take the COVID vaccine, even though he has never been sick with it, the vaccines do not demonstrably prevent infection or transmission, and even though the virus now has very low transmission rates. Fortunately President Trump reversed that, and Louis Barker either has or is now on his way to getting his green card. Mr Trump has made legal immigration easier, while Mr Biden’s woke staffers tried to make it harder.
