Washington Halloween displays show scariest thing for Democrats is Trump
In some neighborhoods of heavily Democratic Washington, Halloween displays with a decidedly political tone have long been a tradition.
But ahead of Halloween on Friday – 10 months into Donald Trump’s second White House term driven by a conservative policy blitz most Democrats oppose – some residents are using the holiday to protest his policies with anti-Trump yard displays.
In a front yard close to the U.S. Capitol, Donna Breslin, 79, has installed an entire graveyard with 16 headstones to mark policy moves the Republican Trump has made since he took office in January that she says are killing off American democracy.
There are headstones – purchased on Amazon and hand-painted by Breslin – for “USAID,” and “research for health and science,” among others.
The Washington metropolitan area has borne the brunt of Trump’s cuts. A government shutdown, now in its 30th day, has forced many more civil servants to be furloughed with each party blaming the other.
All they have to do is tell their Democrat Senators to vote for a clean CR, as they had done 13 previous times.

One focus of this year’s Halloween displays is Trump’s health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has cut staff at the Department of Health and Human Services and promoted debunked claims that routine childhood vaccines cause harm.
In the wealthy, liberal Northwest Washington neighborhood of Georgetown, where Kennedy lives, there are multiple skeletons on display in front yards alongside vaccine-related messages.
A block from Kennedy’s house stands a giant 10-foot (3-meter)-tall skeleton next to a sign that reads, “Hi, I’m Wally! Vaccines save lives – believe me I know!”
Kennedy has restricted access to COVID-19 shots, boosted support for state vaccine exemptions, dismantled the vaccine review process, and expanded a national advisory board with like-minded critics of COVID shots.
The hardcore Democrats can still get their worthless 15th COVID booster, and then cry when they get COVID. Again.

It is a CR. If you desire to discuss financing, then pass the CR and debate the cost of the government in normal fashion. Did you quit college already?

The part of the conversation that is getting no traction is that this CR was only supposed to be good for a few weeks. If it is an indicator on how the Democrats “participate” in the legislative process, then even if they pass the CR tonight, this is all just going to happen again in a few weeks.
The congress needs to return to annual budgets and spending bills passed in regular order. But that cannot happen when democrats are in the minority since they will invoke the Senate 60 vote min for everything.
Long term, There should probably be some sort of defined minimum level of automatic spending that will happen without debate, like what happens with social security. Since most of the government works on auto-pilot anyway, there is no need for congress to pretend they are controlling it every year or two by intentionally breaking it. But Democrats would never go along with that since “shutting down the government” is one of their favorite tactics besides screaming “Republicans want to take away your social security”.
I think the shutdown is great. A person I know that doesn’t have a job has a GF that uses her two kids for food stamps. She only works part time. All of a sudden he has to get a job and is working part time to put food on the table. Amazing what can happen when the government gets out of the way and out of my wallet. Having had a few Trump-Covid vaccine shots since 2020 and having one symptom-free Covid infection (only knew by testing before a trip), not an issue. On the other hand only just over 1.2 million Americans died from Covid thanks to Trump’s Covid vaccine program (Warp Speed)!!! Thank you President Trump!
