Trump, GOP portray cities as chaotic dystopias in need of occupation

When President Donald Trump declared his third presidential candidacy in 2022, he saved his most colorful language for America’s urban areas, bemoaning “the blood-soaked streets of our once-great cities” and adding that “the cities are rotting, and they are indeed cesspools of blood.”

Later in his campaign, Trump called Milwaukee “horrible” and described Washington, D.C., as a “rat-infested, graffiti-infested shithole.” More recently he said, “These cities, it’s like living in hell.”

Other Republicans have seized on similar dystopian urban images. When Vice President JD Vance visited New York several years ago, he compared the city to a zombie apocalypse, posting: “I have heard it’s violent and disgusting there. But is it like Walking Dead Season 1 or Season 4?”

As Trump ramps up the military presence in Washington — and hints that he may move to take over other cities — his crackdown punctuates a frequent Republican message that American cities embody chaos, lawlessness and immorality, despite widespread recent drops in violent crime. With cities increasingly liberal and rural stretches ever more conservative, Republicans have a growing incentive to attack urban areas as the epitome of all that is wrong with America.

Well, he’s not going to be taking over other cities: he doesn’t have the legal authority like with D.C. If the WP had any journalistic integrity they’d be showing how the streets are much calmer in D.C. That they aren’t seeing the roaming band of youths harassing people, committing crimes, and carjacking. The D.C. Police Department is able to really do their job with all the extra National Guard folks around, and know that the feds have their backs on arrests. They’re even instituting another youth curfew starting today, Thursday.

“He recognizes he has a wedge issue, and I’d argue not a bad one,” said Quinton Lucas, the Democratic mayor of Kansas City, Missouri. “The only defense mayors have usually is, ‘Yes we have crime, it’s less than before, but yes there are still homicides, there are still issues.’ I think he is trying to exploit that.”

But the rhetoric is untethered to reality, Lucas said: “They are looking to exploit issues for political gain, not to solve them.”

Well, he’s working on solving it in D.C. What are you liberals doing in your cities to solve it? KC, Mo, has a crime rate of 1. That’s pretty bad. Violent crime rate is approaching 4 times the national rate. You have a 1 in 68 chance of being a violent crime victim. A 1 in 20 chance of being a property crime victim

Brett Smiley, mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, said many of his fellow mayors are worried their town could be next. Most cities would eagerly accept federal help, he said, but it should come in consultation with local leaders, not imposed by force.

Providence won’t be. Neighborhood Scout ranks it a 17. But, what of Baltimore, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Boston, and many more? Well, that’s on you Democrats. What will you do? You have no one like a Rudy Guiliani, who turned crime around in NYC back in the day. And why are you making excuses? You do know everyone can actually see the crime, right?

Here’s the thing: if you liberals really cared about the high crime rates you’d be showing that it is working, instead of whining against crime reduction. Do you really want to die on the hill of being resistant to law and order? Most of the local news stations are ignoring the reduction in crime. You do not see them out and about, maybe embedding with the NG and DC police.

Military officers shifted to prosecute local D.C. crimes amid Trump takeover

As members of the National Guard deploy to the nation’s capital as part of the Trump administration’s takeover of policing in Washington, members of the military are also set to take on prosecutorial roles handling civilian crimes.

Twenty members of the Defense Department are set to begin working as special assistant U.S. attorneys — federal prosecutors — in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia next week, two people familiar with the matter told NBC News.

So, there won’t be any catch and release with a slap on the wrist, at worst, going on.

Yeah, well, as the liberals rage at the illegal being arrested they should have waited, because the illegal has been deported three times, and was arrested for child sex crimes last year. Yet, he was still allowed to walk around. Not in jail, not deported by the Biden admin. For some reason the charges were dropped by the Fairfax County prosecutor.
