GOP Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar Pushes (complete BS) Dignity Act

There are times I wonder why I bother with these long posts, since my little blog doesn’t have a huge reach. But, this stuff matters, and Salazar is pushing “not-amnesty” just like Lindsay Graham, John McCain, and George W. Bush. See, it’s totally not amnesty

See? Oh, wait, telling a goodly chunk of illegals and those who’ve been in the US for a long time and do not speak English all about it

That’s her English tweet. Both say the same thing. And she’s been on a tear pushing this not-amnesty. Let’s dig into the actual Not-Amnesty, er, Dignity Act, go right to the big one, which is buried deep in the act (there are more details if you want to dig in full)

The Dignity Program will allow undocumented immigrants in the U.S. to earn legal status if they pass a criminal background check, pay back any taxes owed, and meet other requirements. Participants must also pay restitution to be eligible.

  • Dignity Program. The bill establishes a seven-year deferred action program that would grant employment and travel authorization to undocumented residents who have been continuously in the U.S. since December 31, 2020.
  • DHS estimates there were 10.5 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. in 2020. Of this group, 84 percent had lived in the U.S. for more than 10 years. (snip)
  • Dignity Status: Continued Legal Presence. Those who successfully complete the Dignity Program must apply for the Dignity Status. This legal status is renewable every seven years. Individuals can renew the status in perpetuity, as long as they remain in good standing. The status does not provide a path to U.S. citizenship. It allows individuals to stay and continue living in the U.S., while barring use of any federal means-tested benefits or entitlement programs.

OK, so, not-amnesty, just giving upwards of 10 million illegally present people permanent legal status. Will it really be just 10.3 million? Some estimates are of 20-30 million (let’s say 18.5 million). How about those who are from China and Islamic fundamentalist nations? Do they qualify?

Rest below the fold.

It starts by yammering about border security, but, we’ve seen this schtick before, where the not-amnesty comes first then the border security fails to materialize. And, we should be securing the border to start with, and that’s it.

Then it talks about asylum, expediting it. How about just saying no? There are too many here now, and this entices more to come, who almost never assimilate. Then Everify, which should be operating as it is.

The bill incorporates a version of the Dream Act, which allows young undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children and have lived in the U.S. for most of their lives to obtain legal status. This section could allow up to 2.5 million Dreamers, including the roughly 525,000 DACA recipients, to continue to live and work in the U.S.

So, then we add another 2.5 million, but, there is no requirement for the people who brought them, those who did the “sin” (remember, we are constantly told the children shouldn’t pay for the sin of the parents), to leave the US. And all the relatives. I wrote about this here back in 2017, so, I won’t do it again. But, it doesn’t give them citizenship. Both this and the not-amnesty would allow work and government benefits. And it would give more not-amnesty to the children of those whose parents overstayed their visas to get lawful status, not-amnesty.

And then it jump into visas, which is as bad as you might think

F-1 Visas for International Students. The bill would amend F student visas, reserved for international students, to be dual intent visas. International students would no longer be required to demonstrate their intention to go back to their home countries after completing their studies. Those who remain in the U.S. must still qualify, on their merits, for employment-based visas. The bill also requires students, working as part of the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes.

Why? They came on a student visa, now it’s time to go, not pretty much turn them into American citizens replacing workers. And it creates more visas for people to come here, who then overstay their visas and take American jobs and such.

About the only good thing in the bill is

Military naturalizations. Streamlines the military naturalization process, creating an uniform path for military naturalizations during both “peacetime” and “periods of hostilities.”

I say, if someone wants to spend at least 6 years in the military they can get resident status. Spend 10 years and they can get citizenship, depending on not committing crimes and showing assimilation.

Not a big fan of Charlie Kirk, but,

…All they’d have to do is say the magic words and they’d be allowed to stay. At best their case would be bogged down in court for years. This is a ruse. Do not fall for it. This will grind President Trump’s mass deportations to a halt.

This is worse than “soft amnesty.” This de facto ends the mass deportations Americans just voted for.

Exactly. Don’t fall for it

According to Mr teach, the DHS estimates 10.5 million undocumented aliens in the U.S. Further, 84% have been here 10 years or more! That’s some 8.8 million workers who appear to be “Americanized”.

    Booms Mr teach:

There are too many here now, and this entices more to come, who almost never assimilate.

What is the right number of foreign workers? Mr trump has proven you can close the border, so enticement to come is irrelevant. And, “who almost never assimilate”, is without evidence. Anyway, why does it matter – they receive no gov’t benefits and can’t vote.

Those like Mr teach see only one solution and that is to track down, kidnap and deport every non-citizen brown foreigner. They’re criminals!! Make ’em pay. And their little kids, too!

Aside: Mr teach often offers twitter tweets as evidence to support a position. They are opinions, usually from right-wing twitters.

Did Americans vote for mass deportations as we’re seeing now? What happened to arresting the rapists and murderers and gang members? ICE discovered that’s hard work, so instead masked, armed men camp out at immigration courts and kidnap moms and their kids, and ship them to foreign countries.

I wonder why the legacy media spends so much effort on political events that will ever go anywhere. The Republicans control both houses. That means Salazar’s bill will never get out of committee. So it doesn’t matter what is in it. It isn’t worth reading or talking about. It is a nothing.
