Vacation? Seriously? He was just made Pope on May 8th of this year, and he’s already taking vacation?
Pope Leo interrupts vacation to appeal for action on climate change
Pope Leo interrupted a two-week vacation on Wednesday to celebrate a special Mass exhorting Catholics to exercise care for creation, in the Vatican’s second major appeal in a week for the world to address global climate change.
“Today … we live in a world that is burning, both because of global warming and armed conflicts,” the pontiff said in a small outdoor ceremony in Castel Gandolfo, an Italian hill town about an hour’s drive from Rome where he is spending his holiday.
“We have to pray for the conversion of many people … who still do not see the urgency of caring for our common home,” said the pontiff.
That doesn’t sound too cultish, does it? And might interfere with that whole “no Gods before me”? And worshiping idols?
The new pope said the 1.4-billion-member Church was committed to speaking about the issue, “even when it requires the courage to oppose the destructive power of the princes of this world”.

FEMA was not allowed to begin assisting until 3 days after the Texas floods (which now appear to have a death total approaching 300) because expenditures over 100 thousand now require the personal signature of ICE Baby Noem.
Local officials now saying they were not notified in time.
President Trump was playing golf on NJ
You’re more full of shit than a whale with no anus…
President Trump accomplishes more on the golf course than Biden ever accomplished at work.
The Pope traditionally ‘vacations’ at Castel Gandolfo every summer. The Apostolic Palace is owned by the Vatican, and is not under Italian jurisdiction, and is only 25 kilometers from the Vatican itself. It’s not as though His Holiness the Pope cannot get back to the Vatican if necessary.
Like the President of the USA, he is still the Pope while on Vacation. The Catholic Branch of Christianity doesn’t stop while the Pope is away. Most of the other Catholics on the planet also occasionally take vacations. Unlike the President of the United States, what the Pope has to say about Climate change influences no one and has no effect. No one will go to hell based on their “carbon footprint”.
Hell is what we create here on Earth. If there is a metaphysical hell as in the bible, Mr trump will surely end up there for all his sins.

Well, it might influence some people.
His Holiness Pope Francis issue the encyclical Laudato Si, which is a call to environmental action, and many bishops asked their parishes to come up with Laudato Si plans. At the parish level, these plans are almost entirely innocuous, and unambiguously good: increase recycling, use less wasteful products, use both sides of sheets of paper, check on and improve weatherstripping on church buildings, replace fluorescent and incandescent lighting with LEDs, and things like that. Our small parish already had solar panels installed, and our electric bills are minuscule.
There are actions people can take to reduce consumption and throw away less. As long as the government does not try to force this, I’m fine with it. I even installed a solar-and-wind powered clothes dryer at the farm, our choice, because my wife likes the way the bedding smelles when it has been line-dried, but yes, it saves a few pennies on the sparktricity bill as well.
Dana,
Fair point. The measure of “influence” though would be the amount and degree of change resulting from the Pope’s proclamations. If the church would have redone weather stripping anyway every 5 years to prevent water damage, and conscientious parishioners were already recycling and turning down their thermostats, then what has really changed as a result of the Pope’s activism? Last I checked, the Pope also said abortion is bad and plenty of American Catholics still get those as well as using birth control. This is not intended as a criticism of my fellow Christian denominations, just pointing out what “influence” really means. So no need to defend your faith.
The good professor asked:
At least in the Diocese of Lexington, Bishop John Stowe required each parish to put together an Laudato Si committee — which fortunately I was not on — to put together these plans. This wound up assigning a specific person to do the weatherstripping, and someone to check the thermostats. Since our nun retired in September of 2022, some tasks were simply not getting assigned, so it was a help to us.
Many smaller parishes do not have a church sexton; our does not. Our previous pastor was in his upper 80s, and no longer capable of doing much himself, and Sister, who was in her early 80s, couldn’t do that much more herself. We basically got along by Sister having voluntold someone to do something. I happen to be the one responsible for light plumbing and electrical work, but no, of course I’m not paid for it.
Lol
The right wing of American politics has always hated catholics. That was one of the reasons they hated ithe Italians and Irish. Calling them Papists.
Dora The Explorer is now being hunted down by ICE. Her patent are Mexican (on her mother’s side) and her father is Peruvian/Cuban. That alone marks him as possible drug dealer/ gang member/associate.
Dora is no longer appearing in public and is thought to be hiding out in a “Sanctuary” city

Yet we have Jennifer Palmeiri, of the very lovely Hillary Clinton’s campaign, saying that multitudes of conservative Americans in the northeast and Washington DC are Catholic because a more conservative Protestant denomination would be socially unpalatable in those areas. This was on one of the emails released by WikiLeaks before the 2016 election.
One thing I have long noticed: Protestants seem much more militant in their dislike of Catholics than has been the opposite, at least among post Queen Mary times. Yet when the media want to depict a fictional religious leader, he’s always depicted as a Catholic priest, because we mackerel snappers are just so visible.
And
Houthis have sank 2 ships in the last 2weeks
President Jefferson took on the Barbary pirates for just that kind of thing. President Trump really does not like to use military force, and we hope that it will be Israel who takes out the Houthis, but we might just have to do it ourselves.
Who wants to see Dora locked up in Aligator Alcatraz ?
Mr teach believes the Pope is either stupid or the member of a cult that is not the Catholic Church.
White nationalists such as Mr teach have always been “suspicious” of the Catholic Church – often slurring the worshipers as “papists”. Mr teach even accused the Pope of worshiping an idol!!
Anyway, like Mr trump, the Pope takes working vacations! Unlike Mr trump, taxpayers don’t pay for the Pope’s vacations.
The KKK targeted Catholics as well as Blacks, Jews and the liberal-minded who supported them. Some things never change.
What religion does Mr teach practice? What/whom does he worship?
The Pope is a target because Mr teach refuses to understand that the Earth is warming from the CO2 we keep adding to the atmosphere. Ironically, both the Pope and Mr teach believe in a supreme being.
