Could this major California city see mass ‘abandonment’? New risk model predicts just that
The flood plains of Sacramento are a geologic world away from the more cinematic California of coastal crags and lofty peaks. Yet, that sometimes overlooked region could be home to one of California’s great disasters waiting to happen, according to a February report from First Street, a prominent climate risk prediction firm.
The firm’s models suggest that the mounting risks of catastrophic flooding will drive Sacramento County — the heart of California’s fourth-largest metro area, at about 2.4 million people — to lose, in the average scenario, 28% of its population by 2055. Increasingly bad air quality, higher insurance costs and demographic shifts could also be drivers of population decline.
But is this scenario, which First Street calls “climate abandonment,” actually likely?
Sacramento isn’t the only Central Valley locality with a dire outlook. First Street predicts that Fresno County, which anchors the Valley’s second largest metro area, will lose almost half its population. Together, those urban declines are two of the five largest predicted by First Street nationwide, and the largest predicted in the nation outside of low-lying coastal areas on the East and Gulf coasts.
This is all based on one event
In 1861, California had been suffering the effects of a long — possibly a 20-year long — drought. But in December of that year, the dry spell abruptly ended. Storm after storm pummeled the state, causing nearly endless rains and prodigious mountain snows. Then, in January, a sudden warmup caused much of the snow to melt, almost instantly flowing into the Central Valley. As rivers overflowed their banks and the waters spread, the valley became a fishbowl. Forty days after the rains started, floods had inundated an area some 300 miles long and 30 miles wide, devastating the new state’s towns and farms and drowning hundreds of thousands of livestock.
That’s right, First Street is fearmongering (they have a long rapsheet for climate fearmongering) on something that happened all the way back in 1861. And blaming the possibility on human caused climate change. What caused it in 1861, when the world was barely out of the Little Ice Age?
Anyhow, it is a very long fable. Yes, fable. Because it’s all based on something that may possibly maybe happen due to computer models.
The world of war has changed forever. Ukraine snuck drones into Russia and attacked them with these hidden drones doing billions in damage.
The DEMOCRATS WANT TO ALLOW MILLIONS OF ILLEGALS into this country without even bothering to check them out.
The Democrats want a repeat of Ukraines reign of horror on the cities and towns of America.

Doom. There was nothing special about that particular attack. The attackers could just as easily have set up rockets, Hamas style, near the airbases and done the same damage. War has not changed in any significant way. Ukraine is still loosing the actual war. Russia isn’t changing their strategy as a result of this attack nor are they suffering a shortage of aircraft to continue operations.
War has changed. It is coming from every circle around the world.

We are at war with the cartels right now. How hard would it be UNDER A DEMOCRATIC ADMINISTRATION for them to sneak in a 1000 drones armed with c4 and begin blowing up (pick your targets).
Unless you are willing to divulge your identity as an expert then yours is just an opinion that many military minds strongly disagree with.

Nothing changed with this drone attack. China already sends over a thousand drones every month and Amazon delivers them. Adding another thousand would be trivial. But you don’t need thousands of drones to cause damage. Timothy McVeigh demonstrated you can do it with a rented truck. The rental truck market didn’t end after that. Nor did farms find it impossible to get truckloads of fertilizer and diesel fuel. Moslems drive their cars into crowds every year. The world barely takes notice.
War is about using military means to accomplish strategic goals. Most goals can be accomplished without military means. The MIC, as you put it, is wedded to the idea of buying more stuff because that is their rice bowl. It isn’t the only rice bowl or even the most effective one. Killing people and damaging equipment is not enough to gain strategic goals. It isn’t even on the path of gaining goals. Russia has clearly stated strategic goals in Ukraine and their obvious actions are moving in that direction to achieve those goals. Ukraine is flailing about without an obvious plan because their actual plan is just to siphon money from American taxpayers and share it with American politicians.
Global communism got a much greater effect in the USA by undermining our institutions than they ever hoped to accomplish by building massive tank armies. The MIC made massive profits in the USA building and modernizing the military during peace time. It is now at the point where America cannot afford to arm ourselves because all our stuff is too expensive. Russia knows this. The EU knows this. China knows this.
War changes all the time, with or without a MIC, but it didn’t just because of one drone strike. America has been using AI assisted drones to kill people for over 20 years.

For the record, we were buying giant tanks because of the cold war in Europe, not to fight “goons in tunnels”. To fight tunnels, we used Napalm, flame throwers, WP and CS grenades, and skinny guys armed with flashlights and 45’s. The Soviet T-55 and T-62 were considered serious threats so the US developed the M48 and M-60 series of tanks.
