Trump administration ends Harvard’s ability to enrol international students
The Trump administration has moved to end Harvard’s ability to enrol international students, escalating a standoff with America’s oldest university.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X that the administration had revoked Harvard’s “Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification as a result of their failure to adhere to the law.”
“Let this serve as a warning to all universities and academic institutions across the country,” she posted on Thursday.
Harvard called the move “unlawful” in a statement.
Unlawful how? I’ve read about 10 articles on this, and none say how. You’d think a follow up on “unlawful” would be something actual reporters would want to do.
“We are fully committed to maintaining Harvard’s ability to host our international students and scholars, who hail from more than 140 countries and enrich the University – and this nation – immeasurably,” the university responded.
“We are working quickly to provide guidance and support to members of our community. This retaliatory action threatens serious harm to the Harvard community and our country, and undermines Harvard’s academic and research mission.”
The Trump administration’s decisions could affect thousands of international students who study at the university. Over 6,700 international students were enrolled at the institution last academic year, university data shows, making up 27% of its student body.

Axios also failed to ask about “unlawful”, as did the NY Times. Harvard dug it it’s hole.
Hahvahd loves them some foreign students, because foreign students pay full fare, and are not consuming the University’s scholarship funds. Harvard’s acceptance rate is a whopping 3.2%, but, of course, that’s among American students. The most prestigious school in the United States only slightly serves Americans while bringing in money from Europe and the Middle East and China and Japan. 27.2% of undergrads enrolled for 2024-25 academic year were “international” students.

Secretary of DHS Kristi Noem (South Dakota State U) gave Harvard 72 hours to meet the administrations demands*. She instructed that foreign students COULD graduate if they’ve completed their current programs, but other foreigners MUST transfer to a compliant college or lose their legal status.
The United States of America has a signficant trade SURPLUS when in comes to foreign students! Well-to-do Indians, Chinese, Israelis, Europeans, Japanese, Saudis etc bring in billions of dollars every year. Far fewer Americans study overseas (mostly in Europe – Italy, Ireland, Spain, France).
Harvard just sued the trump Administration. LOL

Why not make EVERY college and university abide by a special set of rules as prescribed by the Federal Gov’t. We need strict guidelines on who they hire to teach OUR children, who they accept as students, WHAT the professors teach, what they are paid and what they research!!
And who better than Mr trump, using the example of his highly successful Trump Uniiversity of New York, to lead the change?
