Trump Wants Greenland and the Panama Canal. It’s About Climate.
To imagine the kind of future a hotter, dryer climate may bring, and the geopolitical challenges it will create, look no farther than two parts of the world that Donald Trump wants America to control: Greenland and the Panama Canal.
The president-elect in recent days has insisted that both places are critical to United States national security. He’s called to reclaim control the Panama Canal from Panama and acquire Greenland from Denmark, both sovereign territories with their own governments.
They have something else in common as well: Both are significantly affected by climate change in ways that present looming challenges to global shipping and trade.
Because of warming temperatures, an estimated 11,000 square miles of Greenland’s ice sheets and glaciers have melted over the past three decades, an area roughly equivalent to the size of Massachusetts. That has huge implications for the entire world. If the ice melts completely, Greenland could cause sea levels to rise as much as 23 feet, according to NASA.
“Could”. If they were doing the math they’d know the actual answer. Anyhow, nothing unusual is happening in those places being a typical Holocene warm period. But, you know, a doomsday cult has to see their cult in everything
Trump calls climate change a hoax. The Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment. But his former national security adviser, Robert C. O’Brien suggested on Sunday that climate change was one factor in Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland.
“Greenland is a highway from the Arctic all the way to North America, to the United States,” he told Fox News. “It’s strategically very important to the Arctic, which is going to be the critical battleground of the future because as the climate gets warmer, the Arctic is going to be a pathway that maybe cuts down on the usage of the Panama Canal.”
Nothing in there stated that Mankind is at fault. Most skeptics readily admit that the Earth has gotten warmer since 1850, as the Little Ace Age ended. But, cults have to cult.
I wonder if they have considered that this whole thing may be misdirection by Trump, who is looking for different outcomes?
Any one who follows China knows why Trump and the US military want Greenland.
Greenland was granted autonomous rule by Denmark in 1979 but is still subject to its decrees. Right now, it is peacefully fighting for its independence. Alas, enter China.
Less than 60k people are living on Greenland as citizens. The US Military has two military bases there and is continually in a battle with the locals to stop calling China for money to build things and become ensnared in China’s Belt and Road extortion scheme.
BIDEN has asked Denmark several times to step in and stop the sale of the islands’ independence to China. Not literally, but with the Belt and Road Initiative, you see what is happening with the Panama Canal. Panama has invited China into its country and is now drowning in debt thanks to China’s worldwide extortion campaign of floundering nations.
Of course, China is willing to lend them the money only if Chinese people build it and they are allowed to start building bases on an Island three times bigger than Texas.
The main reason China wants to enter Greenland is that it is setting its sights on a vast amount of resources that will fuel the EV and Green energy sector for decades, if not a century. In addition, there are proven Oil and Gas reserves in and around Greenland that China wants to get its grubby paws on.
China has almost no oil, gas, or coal reserves and is, therefore, forced to build hydroelectric, wind, solar, and coal plants and then transport coal from other nations.
With the advent of hyper-sonic missiles, having China with a foothold and pointing thousands of these missiles at NATO would be akin to having Nukes in Cuba, given the speed at which these missiles fly. China would own NATO from the West, while Russia wants to dominate them from land and the East.
Greenland is crucial for NATO and the USA to stop the spread of China into Europe and the ARCTIC. Unfortunately for everyone involved, Greenland is overseen by Denmark, which has little spare pocket change to give to Greenland so that the aspiring country can build its infrastructure.
Trump floated the idea of buying them in 2020, and after Rebuffed offered Greenland 12 million, which pissed off Denmark. Denmark treats the island like a red-headed stepchild, but still, it’s their child.
Again, Donald Trump is Hitler to leftists, and in 2020, far leftists certainly ran the government of Denmark. Unfortunately, to deal with Greenland one must deal with Denmark run by the leftist Coalition who sees Trump as Hitler. Which devil is worse? China or Trump.
It would be unsurprising if Denmark Okays the go ahead for Greenland to load up on leftist Communist Chinese Belt and Road iniatives vs the USA just giving them money in exchange for keeping China out of the Island aspiring nation.

China has the world’s 4th largest coal reserves, but imports about 15% of its coal. It produces 45% of the world’s mined coal.
What does it mean for American security as China has for a decade been supporting major infrastructure projects in Asia, Europe, Africa and even South America while the US is intent on withdrawing from the rest of the world? And US and European consumers are supporting China’s economy!!! Although China is trying to diversify, some 20% of their income is from exports. Elon Musk’s Tesla builds Models 3 and Y in China!
Lincoln Nautilus, Buick Envision, Polstar 1 and 2 are also made in China. Lotus and Volvo are owned by China and sold here. I guess that’s what happens when our policies price labor so high, regulations so daunting and taxes so oppressive business wants to move out. Maybe Trump can change all that.

So you believe the American working class make TOO MUCH? That’s an interesting take. Do you believe your husband is overpaid?
Businesses want to maximize profits by cutting expenses, including especially, labor. They also love monopolies, but we have laws restricting that.
If a business can dump its wastes into the Mississippi River they will. Fortunately we have laws restricting that. If a business can use pre-teens to assemble their cell phones and computer, they will. We have child labor laws restricting that. Most laborers are expendable and easily replaced. In China and India, workers labor under dangerous conditions and if someons is maimed or dies, they are replaced. We have labor laws protected workers. We also permit labor unions which allows collective bargaining helping to level the playing field against capital.
Yes, Americans get paid more, but the shareholders and executives of businesses do just fine.
You may notice that the likes of Mr Trump and Mr Musk love cheap foreign labor, either in foreign lands or importing cheap labor (H-1B and related visas), but for some reason they prefer to live in America. They prefer to pocket billions in the safe US but pay foreign labor rock bottom wages. It’s a good deal if you can get away with it. As long as that cheap labor is over there.
