Good News: Chocolate/Vanilla Ice Cream Causes Massive Case Of Offendinitis

Have you ever had Blue Bell ice cream? Delicious. It’s my preferred brand now. It’s real, tastes great, and you get a lot for your money. I like the Neapolitan the most, but, there’s another I’ve purchased when my WalMart is out. This type. Which apparently is raaaaacist and linked to the Civil War, and has caused Offendinitis

Mixed-Race Family Asks Blue Bell To Change ‘The Great Divide’ Flavor Name

In an open letter on Love What Matters, Traci Schmidley, a mother of six children and a foster mom to more, is asking Blue Bell Ice Cream to change the name of their chocolate and vanilla flavor, which is currently named “The Great Divide.”

According to Schmidley, the family was sitting down to celebrate the end of a long week with some ice cream when her 10-year-old son saw the name on the carton and decided to make a joke calling it “The Civil War flavor.”

“The line down the middle of the carton reminded him of the Mason Dixon line, and the name reminded him of a time in history when our nation appeared to be irrevocably divided. He looked at our table and saw a mixture of both black and white people, not divided on one side or another like in the ice cream but gathered around the table together.”

Schmidley says her son wasn’t complaining that the name of the ice cream was racist, but rather that it wasn’t “the best name for something as wonderfully unifying as Blue Bell ice cream.” The children came up with a name that they think better represents the flavor, calling it “Better Together.” They wrote a letter to the company that Schmidley shared on her Facebook page.

OK, perhaps he wasn’t complaining that it was racist (I doubt that), but, it sure is a case of Mega-Offendinitis. Seriously, this is ice cream. There’s always been this light-hearted debate about chocolate or vanilla being the best. The Great Divide! This is the kind of insanity that permates today’s society, where someone takes Offense because they’ve utterly misread something in their own minds. But, remember, it’s not about race

Last week we had an ice cream party and we had the flavor the Great Divide. It’s a good flavor for parties because we can add a lot of unique toppings to it. But, we began to talk about the name and we think some people might misunderstand the name and think the name the Great Divide is about people and the division that exists in our world because of different skin colors.

That’s from the Facebook post to Blue Bell, embedded in the above link. On the bright side, it wasn’t Demanding and unhinged like what you see from most SJWs.

The letter from the children was absolutely adorable and it wouldn’t be surprising if Blue Bell took their advice and changed the name to “Better Together”.

Why were you so offended by it?

      Whatever happened to Chocolate/Vanilla?

But, when I think of the Great Divide, I do not think race, I think geography. That big thingy about halfway across the Rockies that determines which way the rivers flow.

Leave it to a bunch of crazy Lefties to obsess about race.

    • McGehee says:

Probably because the kids almost certainly didn’t come up with the idea unprompted by their “woke” parents.

You lefties are always using kids to push your agenda, dishonestly.

I grew up in Texas, and Blue Bell has always been my favorite brand of ice cream. Not long after I moved to Kansas City, they started selling it here, but unfortunately, when they had the listeria scare a few years back, it never returned to this area. My late brother also LOVED Blue Bell. He told me, “I don’t know what listeria is, but if Blue Bell puts it in their ice cream, it must be good.”

  3. W.w. Morrison says:

Blue Bell ice cream has a dark secret – it’s all made with HFCS and they refuse to change that. So we now buy brands other than Blue Bell – there are a lot of good ice creams out there, all w/o HFCS.

    • Good point. But it is so delicious.

What brands do you recommend? My choices at my store are the Walmart brand, tastes cheap. Pet is so-so. I don’t like Bryers since they stopped being “all natural” and so many of their products are “frozen dairy treats” now. Blue Bunny tastes a bit weird since they went to the plastic containers.

There is little evidence that the ingestion of high fructose corn syrup is any worse for humans than eating sucrose.

Blue Bell is excellent ice cream.

    from Blue Bell:

… a spokesperson said they loved the sentiment behind “Better Together.”

“We were amazed when we read the letter, by their thoughtfulness and their compassion for all people, and we are humbled by their love of our ice cream,” Jenny Van Dorf, public relations manager for Blue Bell, told TODAY Food by email. “We are so impressed by them and commend Traci for providing the environment where an important conversation like this can take place.”

Schmidley posted on Facebook that Blue Bell reached out to her family, too. “They were incredibly supportive of our family, complimentary toward the children, and not at all bothered or offended by our post. They actually loved it!”

  6. Professor Hale says:

I demand they rename Neapolitan ice cream to “Race war” or rebalance the proportions of black, white, and Indian flavors to match the current population of the USA (updated with each census).

I demand they rename “rocky road” to something less offensive to people with bad marriages. It should be called, “I’m still stuck with that Harpy”.

And I demand they put in extra HFCS. The American sweetener!
