Climate change affecting chestnut production in Portugal

Speaking to the news agency Lusa, Manuel Gonçalves explained that while spring featured balanced temperatures and a stable temperature-to-humidity ratio, a heatwave brought the chestnut tree flowering period—which typically occurs in July—forward, disrupting pollination.

“The chestnut flowering was very rapid, accompanied by intense heat; it didn’t allow the bees to forage—the plants simply didn’t provide the opportunity for the bees to collect nectar,” he said, noting that the flowering was “so fast” that some trees “began to bloom in the morning, and by the end of the day, the blossoms were completely dried out.”

In contrast to last year, a “decent” year for this type of honey, this year has seen losses of 80% to 90%. Beekeepers are harvesting only “a quarter of a super”—about two kilograms per hive—whereas an ideal yield would be “10 to 12 kilograms per hive.” According to the association’s president, this affects approximately 200 beekeepers within the Montesinho Natural Park.

It’s horrible that weather happens during a Holocene warm period. I wonder how they did during the Little Ice Age?

Instead of wondering about how they did during the Little Ice age you should have instead tried to research thst yourself.if you had you would have easily learned that In Portugal the Little Ice Age resulted in a flat lining of the population of even overall declines.
And of course the A little Ice Age was not global.it was regional affecting parts of a North America and Europe.
There were rather dramatic affects although the mean average temperature actually changed what Teacht would describe as ” miniscule” about .6 C or 1.1 F
That is about the same change as what has occured during the lifetime of Teach. Small changes in avg temps will result in dramatic changes in weather. Maybe ? This info will change the weather Teach understands how miniscule temp changes actually result in climate change
But I doubt it. His online identity revolves around an unchanging fixed understanding of climate change.
An extra 50 bucks per month in energy can keep the environment at whatever we ,(rather rich Americans) are most comfortable at. We can even move to deserts as the temps go up

Another totally incorrect analogy from a libtard parasite.

What dramatic changes in weather, Johnny? And if there were, could you tie it solely to a small temp change?

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Small temp change, jimmy? Sure, sure, in your living room a temporary increase from 69F to 72F his hardly noticeable (to men; women have a comfort range of 71.8F to 72.2F)…

But that same temp increases in the masses of our atmosphere (~5.5 quadrillion tons, 10e15), our oceans (~1.45 quintillion tons, 10e14) and our surface land masses (~24 billion trillion tons, 10e21) requires the increased retention of great amounts of solar energy indeed! We are losing less than we absorb. The energy absorbed and energy lost to space are NOT in equilibrium. They eventually will be, but at a higher mean temperature.
