Pretty much because weather happens, and sometimes it’s stronger than at other times
Many People Aren’t Connecting the Dots Between Climate Change and Extreme Weather
At the end of August, devastating floods and a debris flow triggered by a glacier collapse crashed through the valleys of Nepal, killing more than 1,300 people. Earlier this summer, deadly heat waves plagued much of the United States and Europe. Meanwhile, record-low snow levels and a long-term drought stoked wildfires across the western U.S.
It’s been a relentless summer of extremes—only the latest in a half-decade packed with record-breaking weather events. A growing body of research shows they’re becoming more frequent and severe as human-caused climate change accelerates.
Wait, I thought the science was settled all the way back in 2007? No?
But recent studies show that many people aren’t making this link in the wake of a weather disaster, a disconnect that could affect our ability to combat worsening warming. At the same time, a recent analysis found that fewer journalists are doing the kind of climate reporting that could help to close this gap. And even when hurricanes, wildfires or floods get widespread attention, it’s often not long before another story overwhelms the news cycle.
That sounds like political science, not science science. Maybe fewer journalists give a crap about the scam, and don’t see money in doing it.
For decades, scientists have been trying to grasp how people perceive extreme weather in the context of climate change. Dozens of studies, surveys and models seem to support only one consensus: It’s complicated.
“Most people do not automatically, intuitively, on their own, connect that event—a flood, a heat wave, a wildfire—to climate change,” Anthony Leiserowitz, the director of the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, told me. “Climate change is still a relatively abstract idea for many, many people.”
Basically, they’re upset that people aren’t buying what they’re selling. I wonder why

Again an ad hominem attack, specifically tu quoque (you also)
If you have no effective way to dispute facts, yes the Earth is warming because of an increase in CO2, attack the messengers.
The downside of this is amongst other things you seem to validate that the things being done flying in a private jet are in fact harming the planet. Do almost all rich people have a large carbon footprint? Yes they do
Fortunately because of climate activism along with other things (skyrocketing cost of all fossil fuels) the carbon footprint of Americans has been decreasing at the rate of about 1% per year for the last 25 years. Mandated car mpg is one reason
” you seem to validate that the things being done flying in a private jet are in fact harming the planet.”
No, he points out that the rich people are violating their own claims. The operative word is “hypocrites.”
Private aviation accounts for about 1.8% to 2% of total civil aviation emissions.
Johnny-first you’d have to show cause-effect evidence that the warming is caused by the extra CO2.
Jill,
CO2 absorbs infrared radiation keeping heat in the atmosphere. CO2 has increased by 50% the past 100+ yrs. As predicted, temperature has increased, so far by 2.7 F.
You suffer from severe ED (Evidence Denialism)!
There is no verifiable evidence that you know what you’re talking about!!
So gay J-where’s the verifiable cause-effect evidence? You still don’t have any. As has been shown many times, an increase in solar radiation due to decreasing cloud cover can overwhelm any CO2 effect.
“CO2 absorbs infrared radiation..” That simply a statement, not evidence that’s what’s happening now
Here-Stallinga 2025. “Data on CO2 cannot be explained by the model of the greenhouse effect as the driver for temperature.”
“There exists no unequivocal experimental evidence for the CO2 GHE”
“Feed back from added CO2 is empirically found to be negative by a factor of 2”
Sound familiar?
You saw it. We can’t help you anymore.
But, but, but, it doesn’t matter anymore, because we’ve already passed the point that the climate could be kept under 1.5º C, right? The extreme policies the activists wanted to pass and couldn’t, and the few that were passed ignored, didn’t work, so why waste time and money and trample on people’s free choices for a goal that has already failed?
Yes, thank Allah-King Donny for stopping warming at 1.5º C!!! We can relax!!
Americans have cut CO2 emissions at 1% per year for the last few decades.
James,
Hypocrisy? Like budget conservatives collecting SS, Medicare and Medicaid? Breathing clean air and drinking clean water?
Hypocrisy can be leveled on everyone. All have some hypocrisy. Not all Christians follow all the teachings in the Bible. Catholic women still obtain abortions. Priests still have gay sex. Do conservatives follow ALL the Ten Commandments without fail?
Are all those that understand the threat of warming hypocrites for cooling their home? Or driving a 4 cyl? Or taking a vacation?
You guys rely on all-or-none tactics. Yes, we should promote burning less fossil fuel to reduce CO2 emissions. We should convert to non-fossil fuel electricity generation – nuclear, renewables.
We get that cons hate change and to stop change they lie.
People aren’t connecting global boiling and extreme weather because there isn’t one. And even if there were more extreme weather the next step would be to show that the extreme weather is solely caused by the recent temp rise and not by natural factors. There’s a long way to go….
You saw it”. Was it written in invisible ink?
