Court decision on NYS ‘polluter pays’ law is not final outcome on climate change costs
New York is waiting to see the outcome of a separate court decision to find out the fate of its Climate Change Superfund law. Monday, a federal judge in the Northern District of New York struck down the measure, saying it was an overreach of state authority on an issue that should be addressed by Washington.
The law called for New York to collect up to $75 Billion from companies that caused climate change impacts over a 25-year period by extracting or burning fossil fuels that contributed more than a billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions. (snip)
He noted there are other cases, including one in the Southern District of New York, challenging the same law. That case could come to a different decision, “there’s definitely a lot of unknowns about the next step, but this is far from over, I think, in the sense that this is just one district court making one decision.”
Ladin said the court decision and the law itself raises the issue of responsibility.
“I would say that the basic question is, as a society, who do we expect to pay for the harms of climate change? Because we can’t pretend that there are no harms. We know that there are harms. We know storms are getting worse. We know flooding is getting worse. We know extreme weather is getting worse. And it costs a lot of money to deal with that and to adapt to it.,” said Ladin.
I expect those who complain to pay based on their Beliefs
The impacts of climate change are inevitable, he contended, and residents could have influence, “then this is either a question for a state government if the courts change their mind, on appeal, or it’s a question for the federal government and people should make sure that they make their voices heard.”
So, if they’re inevitable, then why bother?

In many apartment buildings, the windows can’t be opened, and apartments have fewer windows anyway, so the urbanites are using air conditioning at temperatures in which people in detached houses just open the windows. Urbanites tend to eat at restaurants more frequently than people in small towns or out in rural areas, because apartments are more cramped and restaurants are physically closer. While public transportation is more available in urban areas, the vast majority still have automobiles, and when they drive, they are more likely to be stuck in traffic.
It was 73.4º F at 7:00 AM here, and was 77.7º F with 99% humidity when I went to bed at 10:00 PM last night, but the A/C was off and the windows open. The A/C is still off, though the forecast is for 94º this afternoon, so I’ll almost certainly use it later. Apartment dwellers would have been using their A/C the entire time, due to lack of breezes and ability to open their windows.
Actually, the door is wide open, for the dogs, my three plus a guest dog, can go in and out as they choose, and that promotes more air flow.
The vast majority of Americans live in urban and suburban areas (80%) yet the political donor class has engineered a government controlled by acreage, not persons!
Mr Dana slurs those he slurs as “warmists” as economically illiterate, with his only evidence being that they correctly understand that corporate taxes are NOT completely passed to consumers. We hope he doean’t feel that tariffs are paid by the ecporting country!!

Dana a quick Google search would tell you that people in cities use less energy than people living in either suburbs or rural areas. Americans use about 500% more energy heating than cooling. Urban dwellers also use significantly less energy for transportation

NYC drivers also have low monthly gasoline costs of about 150 dollars per month vs KY $175
The avg household income in NYC is 130,000 dollars
This summer I used AC for a total of 4 days. I live in 12th floor and my windows open my apartment has 5 windows that open. I live in Parkchester Condominiums in zip 10462 (AOCs district) all of the 100 buildings on 100 acres were built in the 30s before AC and have windows in 2 directions
