Human-Caused Climate Change Is Making El Niño Stronger, Corals Show
With a so-called “Godzilla” El Niño already strengthening in the Pacific, scientists this week revealed that the ocean warming phenomenon is more powerful than at any point in the last 1,000 years—and human-caused climate change is the reason why.
Oh, they have actual empirical evidence from the past 1,000 years? They have done data collection? Or just specific recreations, mostly through computer models?
A new study of Pacific corals, published Thursday in the journal Science, shows that El Niño variability in the eastern Pacific is now 36.5% stronger than it was before the industrial era, a jump that the study’s authors say is too large to be explained by anything except planetary warming caused by the burning of fossil fuels.
There is zero journalistic skepticism in this article, as well as the many others aping this so-called study. In no way do they attempt to require hard evidence to back the assertion. It is a doomsday cult and the Credentialed Media are their town cryers.

Historical climate data is obtained by the both written historical data and going back even father proxy data coming from pollen layers. Coral growth marine sediment layers, tree rings, etc.
It’s not hard.
An El Niño is where the Pacific Ocean releases heat it has retained. The warmer the atmosphere and ocean, the warmer the El Niño.
But… The 1877–1878 event is widely considered the strongest super El Niño in historical records, while the 2015–2016 event holds the top spot in modern instrumental records based on the Oceanic Niño Index. (But, since Senior Science Denier Teach doesn’t believe “proxy” data we can exclude that event!)
Scientists know how powerful past El Niños were by using natural “time machines” called proxy data, along with historical weather records, to reconstruct ocean temperatures and global impacts from centuries ago, e.g. Corals grow yearly rings like trees. Scientists measure the ratios of calcium to strontium and oxygen isotopes in coral skeletons to calculate past seawater temperatures.
