“Trump Allies” To Do SAVE Act Takeover On Senate Floor

Any Republican in the Senate who isn’t in favor of the SAVE Act should just resign, because they would be Democrats who want cheating

Trump allies plan Senate floor takeover to pass SAVE America Act

President Trump’s allies are planning to take over the Senate floor this week in a bid to pass the SAVE America Act, setting up a major test for Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) who is under pressure from Trump and the MAGA base to extend the debate over voting reform for as long as possible.

GOP senators are playing their cards close to the vest ahead of this week’s marathon debate over the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, which would require people registering to vote to show documented proof of citizenship.

But they’re bracing for long hours and possible late nights in a bid to build momentum for the bill, which already has broad public support. A recent Harvard CAPS/Harris poll of 1,999 registered voters found that 71 percent support the SAVE America Act.

Trump allies, frustrated that they aren’t able to force Democrats to stage a so-called talking filibuster to block the bill, are pressing Thune to keep the measure on the floor as long as possible to force Democrats to defend their opposition.

I’ve seen a low of 64% in favor and a high of 83%, as the graphic shows. Why is it not already passed? Why is Thune not bringing it to the floor, making Democrats vote again and again? If the situation was reversed the Democrats would be doing that (and the Credentialed Media would be blasting Republicans constantly). Dems would probably force a talking filibuster.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), a leading proponent of the bill, says Trump wants to see Republicans go all out and is envisioning an epic floor fight, like the two-month battle that preceded the Senate’s passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

“What I want to do is try to maximize the period of time in which we debate it,” Lee said.

Lee recalled that during the battle over the 1964 Civil Rights Act the Senate stayed in session for 60 days “and used an approach that is similar to what I think we ought to do here.”

“They faced a 32-vote cloture deficit at the time it came over from the House in March of 64,” Lee said. “They were able to close a 32-vote cloture deficit. It took them 60 days but they got there.”

But, Republicans this Century do not have the cajones to do this. Too much get along go along.

Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) said Republicans are still “working through” their floor strategy but are preparing for a battle.

Asked if Republicans would hold the floor for quite a while, Britt declared: “Heck yeah.”

Shouldn’t they already have that strategy? This is not a new piece of legislation.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) told reporters Sunday that Democrats have worked extensively on a game plan to counter Republican floor tactics.

“We don’t yet know what Thune will do but we’re prepared for every possible scenario. My caucus really feels strongly that this would a horror, one of the worst things that’s happened in the history of this country in terms of allowing people to vote,” Schumer said.

It’s an 80/20 issue, so, of course Democrats are against it. And too many in the GOP are squishes.

Maybe they’re not sending their “best” to Congress.

A Democrat member of Congress went to court because she says she wasn’t invited to the next Kennedy Center meeting — her lawyer “conceded she was in fact extended an invitation; it just went to her email spam folder”.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) admits Iran had enough uranium to make nuclear bombs because of Joe Biden but that was fine because Iran’s missiles couldn’t yet reach the US.

That’s what Democrats thought was acceptable.

    Good grief.

    Uranium!!!!
    OMG!

Puppy urainium is a rather common element slightly more common than tin

OMG, Johnny! – normal uranium isn’t used for nuclear weapons, highly enriched U235 is what’s used. More than likely that’s what Khanna was referring to…

Voter fraud ? Fox News hot sued and had to pay 787 million dollars for pushing that lie .
Did you believe that lie ?

For a very long time, Democrats insisted that election fraud was a nonexistent fever-dream that Republicans were having. In recent years, their story has shifted, and they now acknowledge that some election fraud might exist, but that it’s rare.

Again, Democrats swear that this isn’t the plan, but nobody on this side is buying that. There is a lot of concern in blue states about having any federal immigration enforcement at polling places next November. If there are no illegals voting, why would having immigration officers at the polls be a problem?

Democrats have been running the same tired playbook on the SAVE Act. They’ve claimed it’s racist, but those attacks haven’t exactly worked because majorities of minority voters support it. So, they try to scare people with outlandish claims like it will make it impossible for married women to vote. It’s a stupid claim, but some people are willing to believe it. And there are plenty of other accusations that are just as untrue.

Sen. Dick Durbin tried to push those fake claims in a recent Senate hearing, rattling off a list of grievances about the bill’s voter registration requirements.

However, it’s all a lie, and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), the lead sponsor of the bill, was ready for him.
