“Five years ago, on Jan. 6, 2021, a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol, hoping to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election. After the sun set that day, Congress reconvened to certify Joe Biden’s victory. The rioters lost, and so did Mr. Trump, who had summoned them to Washington and urged them to march to the Capitol. The Trump era seemed to have ended in one of the most disgracefully anti-American acts in the nation’s history.
That day was indeed a turning point, but not the one it first seemed to be. It was a turning point toward a version of Mr. Trump who is even more lawless than the one who governed the country in his first term. It heralded a culture of political unaccountability, in which people who violently attacked Congress and beat police officers escaped without lasting consequence. The politicians and pundits who had egged on the attack with their lies escaped, as well. The aftermath of Jan. 6 made the Republican Party even more feckless, beholden to one man and willing to pervert reality to serve his interests. Once Mr. Trump won election again in 2024, despite his role in encouraging the riot and his many distortions about it, it emboldened him to govern in defiance of the Constitution, without regard for the truth and with malice toward those who stand up to his abuses.
As members of Congress were meeting to certify the presidential election result, more than 2,000 protesters forced their way into the Capitol, smashing windows and overturning barricades. They chanted about their desire to hang Vice President Mike Pence and track down Representative Nancy Pelosi. Fearing for their lives, elected officials, their aides and people who happened to be visiting the Capitol scrambled to find safe hiding spaces. The rioters eventually broke into the Senate chamber.”
Of course, since the insurrection, trump and his cowardly, dishonest minions (ncluding MAGA Reps and Senators) have relentlessly lied about their actions, inactions and motivations. trump had tried legal and quasilegal means to block the certification of the election, and on Jan 6 hoping against hope to have VP Pence to NOT certify and have the vote returned to the House where the vote would be decided on the number of Republican states. Mr Pence bravely certified the vote and the riot ended. Congresspersons were able to certify the election that evening.

Funny-the only alleged “insurrection” in history without any firearms, where Capital police opened gates for protesters, where the chief of the Capital police was never interviewed, where protesters were photographed calmly walking between velvet ropes that funnel tourists in one of the rotundas, and where the leader of the “insurrection” tells his “mob” to protest peacefully and patriotically. Wow-we dodged a bullet!

Do you deny that there was violent attack on the Capitol precisely at the the time that Congress and the President of the Senate were certifying that Joe Biden won the election?

Guns on Capitol Grounds: Multiple individuals were charged with carrying or possessing firearms on Capitol grounds. For example, Christopher Alberts was arrested with a loaded 9mm handgun and extra magazines, and Guy Reffitt was found guilty of carrying a Smith & Wesson pistol during the riot.
Stashed Nearby: Law enforcement recovered an “arsenal” from vehicles parked near the Capitol. Lonnie Coffman’s truck contained a handgun, a rifle, a shotgun, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
Chemical Sprays: Rioters frequently used bear spray and pepper spray to disable police officers.
Electroshock Weapons: Several individuals carried stun guns and Tasers. Richard “Bigo” Barnett was photographed with a high-voltage stun gun walking stick in Nancy Pelosi’s office.
Blunt and Edged Weapons: The mob used tomahawk axes, machetes, knives, bats, and metal knuckles. One woman was reportedly armed with a sword and a steel whip.
Flagpoles: Frequently used as spears or clubs to beat officers.
Fire Extinguishers: Discharged at officers or thrown as heavy projectiles.
Stolen Gear: Rioters seized and used police shields and batons against the officers they were taken from.
Everyday Items: Hockey sticks, crutches, lacrosse sticks, broken furniture, skateboards, and rocks were all used as weapons during the attack.
Yes, the police did let some of the mob in, but many of the others of the mob broke windows and doors to enter and assaulted officers.
Yes, some of the mob walked peacefully, but many hundreds were violent.
