For many of us older folks, we remember the tragedy of things like Pearl Harbor, because our teachers taught it with reverence. Even though I was born in 67, I do not really remember anything about Vietnam or a lot of the early 70s, because I was too young. I have vague memories of 1976 and all the celebrations. How do the kiddies know about 9/11?
Teaching 9/11 to a generation that didn’t live through it: ‘We just heard tales of it’
Trent Nettles was a toddler on Sept. 11, 2001.
Now 27, Nettles is an 11th-grade Advanced Placement U.S. history teacher — too young to remember the day but responsible for teaching it to students who weren’t yet born when it happened. His challenge was to make this lesson more than just another unit on the syllabus.
Nettles told his students this week at Alliance Cindy & Bill Simon Technology High School in Watts, “I just remember, as a kid, that there was a lot of chaos. That’s all.”
Twenty-five years after the attacks, the anniversary has crossed a generational threshold. In a growing share of American classrooms, 9/11 is part of a past era, often taught by teachers with little more memory of it than the students in front of them. Some do recall the morning but struggle to convey the magnitude of pain and fear to students for whom 9/11 is another date in a social studies course timeline.
The shift begins in early childhood, when children may first hear the date amid adult conversation or catch a newsflash. It runs through middle and high schools, where teachers debate how much of this history adolescent and teen students can absorb — and into college lecture halls, where professors who once taught 9/11 as a current event now teach it as decades-old history.
The problem here is that so many of the teachers are wackos and uber-leftists, and do not like the United States. Many of them identify more with extremist Islam. Like so many subjects the teachers teach the moonbat version. If they really want to teach it, there are plenty of movies and videos available, like
You can’t teach the horror, though, because you had to be there, though, perhaps a movie like The Falling Man would give the kids, and the young teachers, perspective. But, they can teach respect.
9/11 was truly the first tragedy in the Internet age. There had been others, but, this was on every TV station. Every cable news station. It was part of sports. And this was the time period of the rise of high speed Internet. Chatrooms. Seeing news from other countries and their news outlets. It was days and weeks of coverage where almost everyone tuned in. It is burned into our brains.
Oh, and then the NT Times has to chime in
After 9/11, Islamophobia Shaped a Generation of Muslim New Yorkers
Once-friendly neighbors started to keep their distance. Undercover police officers began to monitor community events. And passers-by would give them dirty looks on the street, and sometimes harass them, when they left home in hijabs or other religious garb.
Many American Muslims have faced a quarter-century of suspicion and hostility since the Sept. 11 attacks, which reshaped life for all Americans.
In New York, a generation of Muslim New Yorkers responded to the Islamophobia by organizing their communities: Mosques hosted makeshift legal clinics. Small businesses became hubs in a citywide civil rights network. Muslims of different racial, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds formed alliances the city had not seen before.
Their political organizing helped, years later, to elect the city’s first Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani. But anti-Muslim prejudice still endures, echoing the Islamophobia that arose in the earliest days after Sept. 11.
Yeah, this is where the Times goes on a day when we remember Islamic terrorists attacking America, including not far from the NY Times building. They’ve forgotten that while many Muslims were appalled, so many in the US and around the world ranged from “don’t care” to cheering the action of al Qaeda. We saw it on video. We witnessed how many take the extremist side.

Trent Nettles was a toddler on Sept. 11, 2001.

Just as not all conservative Christians are responsible for Jan 6 or the Oklahoma City bombing or the murders of abortion doctors or the razing of clinics or the murders of gays or the Holocaust, not all Muslims are responsible for 9/11 and not all illegal aliens are responsible for those that DO commit violent crimes and not all Jews are responsible for ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
Almost all of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudis, yet the United States is in bed with Saudi Arabia, even after they dismembered Jamal Khashoggi, a permanent U.S. resident and journalist for the Washington Post.
Of the 19 terrorists: 15 were Saudi; 2 from UAE; 2 from Egypt, including Mohamed Atta, who led the attacks; 1 from Lebanon.
Sorry Rimjob it wasn’t conservative white Christians who hijacked 4 airliners on 9-11 and flew them into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon.
But it was conservative white Christian men who stopped the 4th airliner from crashing into the Capitol.
Muslims all over the world celebrated this as if they had won the Super Bowl.
Democrat socialists like Hasan Piker, Abdul El-Sayed, and Zohran Mamdani said we deserved it and told us we were Islamophobic for pushing back.
The barbarians are inside the gate
They must be stopped!
Maybe we should ban teaching 9/11 as we have banned teaching about slavery, global warming and LGBTQ. We should also keep it out of museums.
“The politicians who watched 9/11 happen decided to immediately import 5 million more Muslims from the 3rd world and then call Islam a religion of “peace” nonstop while adding trillions to our debt to “rebuild” Muslim countries.
The worst betrayal in the history of our civilization.”
— Benny Johnson
MAGA47 Motherfuckers!
Mamdani and AOC caught on camera laughing while the names of the dead were announced during the 9/11 ceremony.
Brutal.
It will be like WW2; Totally forgotten because the teachers’ unions don’t think it is as important as talking about Thomas Jefferson’s slaves and the invention of peanut butter. Only what the unions put into the curriculum gets taught and that is tightly controlled by the Democratic party. But at least everyone will know that Heather’s two mommies form a legitimate form of family. Any parent who wants their kids to know about 9-11, or anything else not Approved by the Party for instruction of the young, you will have to do it yourself. And while you are at it, you should probably take over teaching them everything else too. It’s not that hard to teach children. If you graduated High school you should easily be able to read a lesson plan (available for free on line) to teach your kids through the 9th grade.
