UN Warmists Discover Urban Heat Island Effect In NYC’s Central Park

This isn’t to say that the world hasn’t warmed since the end of the Little Ice Age: it has. It’s to note that certain places are artificially higher in temperature from UHI

Central Park adapts to climate change while helping New York stay cool

climate cowNew York’s Central Park – one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks – is experiencing heavier downpours, flooding and soil erosion, while prolonged heatwaves are putting pressure on the ecosystem as well as visitors.

The bedrock is not actually that far down. And as they continue to build/rebuild in NYC they ignore the infrastructure that moves water away.

But the park also helps New York cope with the heat. It helps cool the city, clean the air, capture stormwater and gives people a place to escape the heat under the trees. The temperature in the park can be around 5°Celsius (10°F) lower than on surrounding streets, according to the Central Park Climate Lab.

That’s because all those buildings, power supplies, ovens, roadways, etc and so on artificially increase the ambient temperature from normal

“Central Park and urban parks are so much more than just recreation spaces,” said Yanina Kupava, a Director at the Central Park Conservancy. “They are vital urban green infrastructure.”

Then we should raze a lot of buildings. Starting with the UN building

UN News visited Central Park on a hot summer day, just weeks before world leaders gather at UN Headquarters for the General Assembly’s General Debate.

All those tens of thousands of big wigs taking long, fossil fueled private flights, eh?

As politicians and experts discuss how cities can adapt to a warming planet, some of those solutions can already be seen just a few blocks away in the park.

Central Park was built in the 1850s, at the beginning of the Modern Warm Period. Then a heat trapping mega-city was built around it.

Only a fool believes electricity used for air conditioning harms the planet but electricity used to charge a Tesla does not.

    MAGA47 Motherfuckers!

  2. Alias says:

Urban areas cover 2%of the 20% of the surface of the Earth’s surface that is land. That is 0.0004% of the surface of the Earth. Please explain the significance or lack there of, “the urban heat effect’
All Tesla superchargers use renewable power generation. My guess is that most Americans who own EVs and are among the 80% of EV owners who charge at home also have selected renewable generation on their local grid bills.

I did. It cost 1 cents per kwh more. But since my monthly bill runs around only 16 bucks per month after elderly discount plus low kwh per month discount that 1 cent per kwh more is not significant

The “Urban Heat Effect”, get this, affects urban areas!!!

Our structures… buildings, homes, barns, factories, bridges, monuments, roads, parking lots, plowed lands, stadia, etc all absorb and release heat to the heavens to some extent!!

Get this, if the structures were evenly divided across all the land areas, the amount of heat released into the atmosphere would change little! Physics!

BTW, the Earth’s albedo (its overall reflectivity) is decreasing, meaning the planet is getting darker and absorbing more solar radiation. Yikes!! Another positive feedback?

    Why is the albedo decreasing?

    1. Research published in the journal Science indicates that a major driver is the reduction of low-altitude cloud cover over the northern mid-latitudes and tropics.

MAGA Males suffering from severe ED (Evidence Denialism) seize this finding as PROOF that CO2 does NOT cause warming!! From the same article the scientists conclude only 13% of the excess warming could be unexplained, thereby invoking the 3 hypotheses here!!

The authors (scientists, not bloggers with severe ED) stated that “warmer oceans have less low cloud cover because higher surface temperatures reduce the temperature difference between the sea and the air above it, which destabilizes and thins the stable marine inversion layers needed to form these clouds”.

    2. Global warming shrinks bright reflective surfaces (albedo) like sea ice, glaciers, and snowpack, exposing darker ocean waters and land that trap more heat. Pretty obvious and another positive feedback.

    3. Stricter environmental controls have lowered sulfur dioxide emissions and fine particulate air pollution. While beneficial for human health, these reflective aerosol particles in the atmosphere previously helped bounce sunlight back into space. Sad but true. Particulate air pollution, while destructive helps block sunlight!!

    Oy vey!!
