Warmists Warn That AC Is Not The Answer Or Something

Air-Conditioning Isn’t The Solution To A Warmer World, A Global Review Warns

It’s undeniable that the world is getting hotter and hotter. As heatwaves grow more oppressive and summer days melt into a sweaty, sweltering mess, air conditioning is saving lives. But a new global review argues the energy-hungry AC units are not a long-term solution to the problem.

Without getting bogged down in the trenches of the “air conditioning culture wars” between the US and Europe, air conditioning does have its place. According to some estimates, it can prevent about 75 percent of heat-related deaths.

Gee, ya think?

The problem is that air conditioning churns through an incredible amount of electricity and puts real pressure on energy grids. Air conditioning currently accounts for 7 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, and that burden is only set to grow. Much of the emissions come from the electricity required to power the units, but AC systems also rely on planet-warming refrigerants, hydrofluorocarbons, or alternative chemicals that carry their own ecological costs.

Given this strain, the review argues that the world will need to look to new innovative methods to cool down going forward.

How much do you want to bet the people who wrote this use AC themselves? Anyhow, their suggestions?

The review examines a range of passive cooling technologies that can lower temperatures with little to no energy use, including radiative coatings for buildings and reflective materials that passively dissipate sunlight.

“The best cooling strategy is to stop unwanted heat from entering buildings in the first place. Shading, reflective materials, opens in a new window, smarter ventilation, opens in a new window and new cooling materials can dramatically reduce indoor temperatures before an air conditioner even needs to switch on,” said Professor Santamouris.

Many of these technologies come with higher upfront costs, the paper notes, but ultimately pay off with lower long-term operating costs, without the added climate toll.

Oh, piss off, wankers.

    YOUR FAULT. !!!
During t last week’s heat bomb I had to use my AC 24/7 for 4 days costing $7.50 per day. Last year I did not have to use it until some days in Aug.

My bill averages about 25 bucks a month but Medicare pays for it
The 1930s building designed by the architect who did the Empire State building was designed to stay cool without AC

Your Medicare pays your electric bills? What, are you an illegal immigrant or something…?

The OTC card provided by my HMO can be used for all utilities. ????

You do know jimmi that I put that on just to control your emotions?

No. He is a typical democrat parasite. He uses student loans that he will never repay, rent control and subsidies to transfer his costs to other people. Then he pretends that stealing from others is a virtue and brags about it here.

It’s not really a bad summer where I live. We save on cost by having trees around us. I usually am doing something out in the pole barn and just open doors on both ends for a nice breeze. Low income housing in the area was built in an open field and the houses bake all day in the sun. It doesn’t make sense to be but neither does multi-family housing. And if A/C units are stressing the electrical grid what would adding more EV’s and electric stoves do to the grid. The warmists tell us it’s getting warmer but it’s not. When will they realize all their fake cries are no longer relevant in todays world.

But, but, but, our global warming climate change activists want us to eschew fossil fueled heating systems, and install heat pump based systems as replacements, yet those systems use just as much electricity, and the same refrigerant chemicals to heat your house as to cool it. The system heats or cools exactly the same way, though some, including mine, have ’emergency heat’ settings which include electric heating elements to further warm the incoming air if the system can’t extract enough heat from the outside air on a really cold day. I never use that function, because we have our backup propane fireplace for supplemental heat.
