To my friends who are MAGA, you may be surprised to hear me say that I understand why all of this nonsense started. You were fed up with a corrupt government on both sides. Career politicians. Endless wars. No accountability. A system that never seemed to work for regular people.
I can understand why your movement made sense to you in the early days. America first. Border security. Ending corruption. “Drain the swamp.” No more forever wars. Those ideas crossed party lines.
But you were being conned, and that is not what this is anymore.
Most Americans support border enforcement. What they do not support is citizens being stopped in grocery stores and gas stations because they look or sound foreign. They are racial profiling with a badge.
The Fourth and Fifth Amendments exist to stop exactly this. Citizens do not carry papers. Citizens do not owe federal agents answers without cause. Minnesota did not erupt because violent criminals were targeted. It erupted because ordinary people are being unlawfully detained based on skin color and accent.
If you know this administration is violating constitutional rights, why is there silence? Why is it so hard to say I voted for this but this is wrong?
When a federal agent tells protesters “if you raise your voice I will erase your voice”, that is not law and order. That is a threat against Americans for using the First Amendment.
Do you care more about the Constitution, or about protecting this administration? You cannot say both. Right now they are in absolute and undebatable direct conflict.
At what point did defending a man become more important than defending the rights you once said defined America?

Obama focused on targeting convicted criminals and recent border crossers for removal while implementing DACA in 2012 to protect eligible youth. His administration recorded over 3 million deportations, the highest of any U.S. president.
