Good Grief: UK Foreign Minister Could Be Fined For Fishing With JD Vance

I love the CNN headline for this

Britain’s foreign minister went fishing with JD Vance. Now, he could be fined for it

It sorta kinda implies that it was against the law to go fishing with JD Vance. At least, that’s what so many unhinged Democrats will think, as they see the headline but fail to read the article, because, really, they are that unhinged

Last week, British foreign minister David Lammy went fishing with US Vice President JD Vance at his retreat in the English countryside. Now, he could be fined for doing so.

Lammy on Wednesday referred himself to the UK’s environment watchdog for fishing without a rod license – an offense in Britain that could land him with a fine of £2,500 ($3,400).

$3,400? Really? I can’t find any US state that gets close to that. I mean, it’s fishing. On public lakes and rivers. Oh, wait, it gets better

“The foreign secretary has written to the Environment Agency over an administrative oversight that meant the appropriate licenses had not been acquired for fishing on a private lake as part of a diplomatic engagement at Chevening House last week,” a Foreign Office spokesperson said.

“As soon as the foreign secretary was made aware of the administrative error, he successfully purchased the relevant rod fishing licenses,” the spokesperson added.

“He also wrote to the Environment Agency notifying them of the error, demonstrating how it would be rectified, and thanking them for their work protecting Britain’s fisheries.”

He’s getting fined for fishing on a private lake. Private. Not owned by the UK government. I could understand if the lake owner was upset, but, Vance apparently had permission, but, why is this the business of the UK government?

Oh, right, they’re government is nuts.

Mr teach wants to rule England’s fishing regulations!! Let England be England!

Mr Lammy, Britain’s foreign minister, is a member of center-left Labour Party. His parents are Guyanese.

It’s highly unlikely foreign minister Lammy will be fined.

Mr Lammy is married to artist Nicola Green. They met while both at Harvard.

Sadly, even as a Kentucky resident and landowner, I would have to purchase a license to fish off the riverbank that I own. I could fish without a license in any pond I wholly own, but that’s it.

The Commonwealth does not maintain my property, so I am not using any land or facilities that belong to the state or anyone else for which such a license would pay. The river itself has not been dredged in years, probably decades, since the locks were decommissioned and closed, between 1981 and 1990. I have visibly noticed changes in the shoreline as the floods of earlier this year — which did not reach my house — deposited significant amounts of sand in some places, and collapsed banks in others.

If I was hungry, I could go to the Estill County Food Bank on the second or fourth Tuesday of every month, or apply to the state for food stamps an EBT card, but I couldn’t fish off my own riverbank without paying the Commonwealth.
