    Seriously. Listen to the experts.

The 1970s became a hotbed of panic and despair. We were going to run out of oil by the ‘90s. Our climate was going to cool, and we were going to experience an ice age. By the time the ‘80s rolled around, we had acid rain to worry about, and then there was the hole in the ozone layer that was going to vaporize us all.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) halted executions in the state after a woman convicted of murder survived TWO (2) doses of lethal injection before she was rushed to a hospital for medical care.

The Tennessee Department of Correction on Wednesday gave two doses of a lethal drug (pentabarbital) to Christa Gail Pike, who was sentenced to death in 1996 for the murder of Colleen Slemmer.

The botched execution caused Pike “unnecessary agony,” violating her right to be executed free of cruel and unusual punishment, the lawyers said. Pike’s attorneys previously warned the court that her small veins made it very likely that she would experience unnecessary suffering and terror from lethal injections.

The United States Supreme Court had reversed a judge’s order to delay the execution.

As teens Pike and her boyfriend brutally murdered her classmate Colleen Slemmer in 1995.

Her boyfriend confesssed and was sentenced to life WITH the possibiility of parole.

Pike confessed and was sentenced to death.

Pike was born in March 1976 in the Appalachian town of Beckley, W.V. She suffered a tumultuous childhood and was temporarily removed from her home by social services due to abuse. She was raped by a neighbor when she was 11 years old and said she was also physically and sexually abused by her mother’s boyfriend.
